I'm feeling like a useless mummy this morning. I managed to put DDs bottles in the steriliser last night without any water. I didn't realise until after I'd made up her bottles this morning. Two of the anti-colic rings are damaged so the bottles don't seal properly. They cost £3.99 each to replace and Philips are out of stock anyway so I have to go buy new bottles later.

Not a big mistake in the scale of things, DD isn't going to be damaged but after 5 months, you'd think I'd be able to do this pretty simple task without cocking it up. Although it makes me feel like shit right now, I know in the back of my mind that I'm not the only one and I will probably make far bigger mistakes in the future.

So come on, cheer me up by telling me your worst cock-ups.

I have done the sterilise with no water before. My biggest mistake was last week. I left my iron unattended for about 30 seconds and my 18 month old son now has a 3rd degree burn on his middle finger :( Quite frankly I feel fucking shite about it, I should know better.

My 2 year old got out the front window yesterday and was found 15 mins later about 15 doors down in our neighbours garden

When DS was a newborn I was washing him in the bathroom sink & was concentrating so hard on washing his bum (I was a bit new to all this) that I dunked his whole head under water. For a couple of seconds. I only realised what I was doing when I heard tiny outraged splutters from the head end.

I swear that this is why he hates hair washing to this day.

I'm doing alright, really, aren't I? I haven't banged her head against the door frame for ages either.

When dd1 was a newborn I fell asleep while holding her on the sofa. I woke up to find her glaring at me from the floor. She didn't cry (so I'm guessing it was a gradual descent) but just seem mildly pissed off/ dissapointed in me. She still is.

My dd rolled off her changing table last week onto a tiled bathroom floor :( I only took my eyes off her for a minute to wash my face. I still feel awful.

An empty milk bottle had fallen over and broken so I placed the pieces inside each other on the front door-step while I went to get a dustpan. By the time I got back baby DS had grabbed one of the pieces and cut his finger. Still has the scar ... whoops.

That reminded me. When ds2 was a few weeks old i was doing night feed, I lay him down at the feet end to get his wind up (usually i would pick him up a few seconds later and hed burp) i said id just lie down while waiting for him, i fell asleep and woke up two hours later didnt have a clue where he was til i looked down at my feet and he was out cold! could have easily kicked him off the bed, someone was looking down on me that night.

also woke many times hours after night feed to find ds2 asleep in my arms covered in milk and bottle stuck in his cheek! in fairness i also had an 11 month old at the time so was very sleep deprived!

Was having an argument with DP one day when DD was around a year old. I stormed out the front room, slamming the door behind me. On to DD's teeny tiny fingers. Hadn't realised she was there. Luckily the door is too small for the frame so DD's fingers weren't hurt at all as there was a big gap. Still feel awful though

I always used to sit my DS1 on the counter top when he was an older baby to his toddler years and be able to prepare dinner beside him and he never moved. Such a sensible baby. I did the same with DS2 when he was almost 2, sat him on the counter and I stood right infront of him while mixing a cake in my hands. I turned around for a second to reach an ingredient I had forgotten and whack! he was on the floor. He didn't flinch but was obviously in shock, as was I. I swear my heart was in my mouth. Both DS2 and I were speechless! No crying, no nothing but I felt terrible. I was checking all over him like a mad woman to make sure no where was broken or hurt. I didn't dare tell anyone until last week actually for fear of being labelled a neglient mum and it happened ages ago! No more babies on counter tops!

I once snipped the top of DC3's finger using baby nail clippers at 1 week old.I left DC2 in a shop but in my defense I only got out to the car before I realised.Was about 4 months at the time,but only had her home 3 weeks.

Also, when babies have been crawling, I have stood on hands and little feet. They just seem to appear from nowhere!

Forgot dress down day several times at school! On last day of term last year sent DS (8yrs) in with his new Monopoly board to find out that all the other boys had their PSP's, DS's with Call Of Duty etc - oh the shame but at least he can joke and laugh about it now!

If we didn't do all these bad things, we'd have nothing to tell them when they're older and then when they have babies of their own, we'll be able to sympathise well and truly when they are the bad parent!

i was trying to take my 6 week old out of her car seat and undid the straps then forgot and lifted the whole baby car sit out of the car she fell onto the road i was totally mortified

There have been lots. DS is 6yo now so had plenty of time to accidently damage him and his stuff.

After going mad at him for dropping his DS (thankfully 2nd hand) and breaking the hinges slightly 2 weeks later I dropped it and smashed it. I felt so bad I replaced it with a better 2nd hand model.

Plenty of banging on door frames, lifting onto shoulders and hitting head on lights.

Left him on pavement in car seat and drove off to see him sat there in the rear view mirror.

I could go on

My dd was about 3 and she had been poorly. Vomittinh and diarrheoa, high temp, crying and not sleeping for days. I was seriously sleep deprived and for some reason in my trance like state at 4am my numb brain though it's be a good idea to give her calpol to lower her very high temperature but (he's the good bit) I though rather than wake her and have her upset and unable to setttle again Id just give her the spoon of calpol whilst she was asleep as her mouh was open. Not suprisingly she coughed and spluttered and woke up screaming. :( I felt such a twat for that! Made sense at the time but I was obviously just so shattered I couldn't think straight.

Mumatron same happened to me last week. Used one of the fold down changing stations and the safety strap broke. DD landed head first on the stone tiles from about 3 foot up

The management admitted it was faulty and should have been replaced She was kept in hospital over night but apart from a bruise she is fine

Wasnt my fault the strap broke but feel terrible that i used the bloody thing and i couldnt catch her

Mistressfrankly- I hope you got Abigail apology from the management and some store vouchers to buy your dd something nice as way of apology!

my biggest 'near miss' was strapping ds2 into his baby car seat and NOT STRAPPING IT INTO THE CAR. and driving 100 miles to visit my parents along the M25

I didn't realise DD had a urinary infection when she was 18 months until her temp spiked to 40 degrees and Calpol wasn't bringing it down. She'd had a smelly nappy, but I just thought it was what she was eating.

DS fell off of a climbing frame when he was 2, despite there being six adults standing around it watching him.

@pinkhebe - I thought I did that recently. I couldn't remember if I'd strapped in car seat so eventually after a bit of dithering, I pulled onto the hard shoulder to check. All safe of course. (sigh)

My worst mistake has to be smoking crack in front of the HV. Should have stuck to weed I think
