AIBU to think that this woman is taking the bloody piss?

www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3673011/Nigerian-mum-Bimbo-Ayelabola-flew-into-Britain-and-had-quins-on-the-NHS.html

I very much doubt she will be sent back. Who is paying her legal fees is what I would like to know?

Are we a soft touch or just a lovely compassionate country with enough resources for all?

I'd rather pay for this woman's healthcare than give money to Rupert Murdoch and his scummy 'newspaper'.

metalelephant · 03/07/2011 12:30

that's it, it's all bimbo's fault this!

Gooseberrybushes · 03/07/2011 12:31

Why yes she is.

pigletmania · 03/07/2011 12:32

ladyBeagle its very hard for people to think like that, I am not thinking that way, I am just happy my unborn baby is alive and well (after having bleeding recently and 2 subsequent MC) so no she is not in my first line of thought. In act she should be sent back to her own country and they take responsibility for her and pick up her medical bills like the other couple who were on Baby Hospital. I would not go to another Country when pregnant, that is why I am staying in the UK until the baby is born, then will see me dh family in Italy afterwards

metalelephant · 03/07/2011 12:32

what about my floor? do I have to do everything here? :(

pigletmania · 03/07/2011 12:33

Don't like anyone whether UK citizens or not taking the piss, and yes there are those who do take the piss.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2011 12:33

make bimbo pick it up - she started it!

metalelephant · 03/07/2011 12:35

:)

Who the hell reads THE SUN anyway? Lowest of low trash newspaper.

I saw a documentary on ITV about the families season they're doing. There was a couple who came over here from Kuwait on holiday and ended up giving birth at 25 weeks to a baby boy. The Kuwaiti government paid £175,000 hospital fees on behalf of the couple. In my maternity ward there is a notice outside the lifts saying that if you are from another country, you will have to pay for the hospital costs. So, I don't understand how she's got away with not paying the fees.

Nancy66 · 03/07/2011 13:02

The overwhelming majority of the population read tabloids - very few read broadsheets.

Tabloids aren't automatically: wrong, sensationalist, mis-leading, agenda driven just by the very fact of their existence.

edam · 03/07/2011 13:25

The Sun is a newspaper and was creating a news story. Not an in-depth feature on health tourism - which isn't really the kind of thing they'd do anyway. Scoff at The Sun all you like, hate it if you wish, but complaining that they've reported on something which has actually happened is a bit rich. That's what they do. In amongst all the celebrity bollocks which hasn't happened, of course...

edam · 03/07/2011 13:27

(She should sell her story to a tabloid and use the fee to pay the hospital bill.)

lachesis · 03/07/2011 13:44

'So, I don't understand how she's got away with not paying the fees.'

Because she hasn't got any money and isn't working.

You can't get blood out of a stone.

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2011 13:59

Hmmmm - the Sun has "reported" a fair few "news" stories that turned out NOT to have happened though hasn't it?

pigletmania · 03/07/2011 14:00

ERm her government should be picking up the bill then!

lachesis · 03/07/2011 14:02

Perhaps her government should be picking up the bill, but is there any way to actually compel them to do so?

catgirl1976 · 03/07/2011 14:02

The Nigerian government has said it will pick up the bill. They just need the UK to send across their bank account number and sort code and then they will make the transfer immediatley....

JamieAgain · 03/07/2011 14:05

Arf

aliceliddell · 03/07/2011 14:11

Anyone got any idea who's been working in the NHS from day one? Nurses from Carribean, doctors from India & african countries. But how comes? I hear you cry. Well, because those countries were in the British Empire and then Commonwealth. That's where a lot of WW2 soldiers came from too. Of course, there are some babies the selfish bastard Tory govt this wonderful country can't afford. So do what? Let them die? That is more cost effective, after all.

Nancy66 · 03/07/2011 14:25

I've read plenty of posts from people on MN who are outraged at the moves towards a more privitised NHS - I daresay that a few of them would support this woman's right to have treatment here.

Something has to give.
