To be fed up of people saying drug addicts should abort?

I realise I will probably get flamed for posting this here.

In the past 12 hours I have seen a comment from someone on here saying drug addicts should abort and then logged into Facebook just there to find another comment from someone saying ".I would only hope that disgusting junkies/alcoholics/abusers and the like abort when they fall pregnant."

My Mother was a drug addict and this really makes me upset every time I see comments like this. They are basically saying me and my Brother should have been aborted. :(

I know I am probably being unreasonable about this, but it really does upset me and I think some people should think before posting comments like that.

And to the posters who maybe think I am biased as I grew up a normal life with my Gran.

I am also disabled, I have walking sticks and it's even hard to type as my fingers and wrists don't work too well. I have a few other problems too.

A girl in my class from school was interviewed in the paper last week. She is now heroin free after becoming an addict at the age of 15. Nearly 25 years of her life spent as a junkie. She used methadone, and is praising it as a great way of coming off drugs.

TrilllianAstra · 26/06/2011 11:37

I don't think it shows how common it is, it shows how many people there are on MN (and obviously those with experience of this kind of thing will be drawn to this thread).

SchrodingersMew · 26/06/2011 11:39

I suppose you are right Trillion, I sometimes forget how huge MN is.

The thing is he's had treatment after treatment and nothing works.
He now lives with mom and dad. They've no tv as he sold it all moms jewellery is here at mine as he would have sold it. I love my brother but I don't like him he's ruined mom and dad and everytime they forgive him get him into rehab and a few months later he's back on heroin.

Quint My Mother has been on Methodone for about 25 years. She became an addict at 16. I think methodone can be a good way to come off for some, but for others I think they see it as a free hit.

She is clean after 25 years. Good for her, that cant have been easy.

Sadly, a lot of them will fatally OD sometime during that 25 years Sad

Yekke · 26/06/2011 11:41

altinkum, short of opening mouth, pinching nose and shoving a drug down throat or attacking someone with a needle, no-one is "forced" into addiction. To say anything otherwise is the sort of wishy-washy liberalism which has gotten this country into this situation in the first place.

I have no sympathy for the addict whatsoever.

SchrodingersMew · 26/06/2011 11:42

Trina That is exactly like my Mother and her Brother. :(

Her Mum has even been saying to me how horrible she is, she has messed up a lot in this families life, and me and my Brother both have problems but definitely both would not wish we had been aborted.

The day he gives up drugs is the day he will be dead. My parents know one day they will out live their son and have to bury him, that's how serious this is to us.

I also agree that they get themselves into it.

My Father was also an addict and got clean when he found out my Mum was pregnant.

Yes, sadly that is the truth of it.

Meant to add though, that it is a horrible process getting clean and some just can't do it.

And some but not all are forced into it.

BloodyMary....I 'lived' with my heroin addicted mother for the first 7 years of my life, and in that time,I found no less than three dead bodies in our house due to ODs.

Bloodymary · 26/06/2011 11:45

As somebody posted earlier, some just see methadone as a free hit.

Bloodymary · 26/06/2011 11:47

crazynanna that is so sad. How awful for you, and how on earth did you cope with it?

Most junkies, my DD included, have been to more funerals than my dear old Nan ever did.
