What joyment is there to camp for 3 days in a mud pit, queue to use the toilet, stinking for 3 days and paying hundreds to see shit bands?
Or am I too old and like my conforts too much?

we live very near the venue for T in the Park and it's hell that weekend.
Not really into festival going here.

Tuppenyrice · 24/06/2011 22:15

Mothermucca - Morrissey is the father of said 7 yo

MotherMucca · 24/06/2011 22:20

pointy my precious second born will be created with the teenaged (donated) sperm of EVERY member of The Smiths. Ever.

And Nancy Sinatra is my son's godmother.

cybboid · 24/06/2011 22:29

Love watching and singing along at home

Loved Mozza (altho too many Mozza songs)

BumFluff and Sons make me want to rip those tweed wiastcoats off them and shove them where the sun dont shine

I'm hoping Glasto a Florence and Machine free zone this year

Meglet · 24/06/2011 22:29

yabu. I wouldn't want to do it in the mud again though.

My skin was so clear after glastonbury, all the fresh air must do it good.

I took a washing up bowl, real cutlery and crockery when I went Grin. And parmesan and wine.

AuntieBulgaria · 24/06/2011 22:38

I went in 1997, it was muddy.
We lost our tent and slept in the car for 2 nights.
I did not have the best time.

I go to the Cambridge Folk Festival now.
I live in Cambridge.

Driftwood999 · 24/06/2011 22:46

YANBU - Looks like hell on earth.

bridgeandbow · 24/06/2011 22:52

Well it gets you fitter - the site is massive you could easily walk for miles and miles every day.

For me it is not about the bands - my favourite area is the Green Fields and surrounding areas - it is just so chilled, I love the vegi cafes and the general vibe of the place.

Could take or leave the Pyramid/ Other stage really.

The toilets are actually ok. The portaloos get cleaned a lot and the "permanent" green long drop ones aka a pit over flowing water are totally fine and smell free. You just have to time it and know where the nice loos are!!

I used to wee in a plastic bottle in the tent at night though - no way I was navigating the loos in the dark.

You don't have to smell, there are lovely showers you just have to get to them early. Baby wipes can work wonders too!

noddyholder · 24/06/2011 22:55

Haven't been in years but I do love it.

noddyholder · 24/06/2011 22:56

Bumfluff and sons set up recording studio in our next door neighbours house a few months ago. Ds was mortified when they came round and said they wouldn't drum past 8 and I said you better not. The next week they won a Brit!

toptramp · 24/06/2011 22:58

Love,Love,Love Glastonbury. Been going since 16 and it was better back then. It was much more edgy.
Went last year and the weather was amazing; wonderful time. I was glad that the dodgy drug dealers and cut throat scoucers had gone.
I was supposed to be going this year and working in the kids field but sadly mum died on Tuesday so won't be going. It's the first time I am so glad that I'm not there. I don't want to be around hundreds of thousands of people right now. Mum always wanted to go but didn't get the chance. I kept phoning her in the middle of concerts so she could get a bit of live music down the phone!
Glastonbury is a celebration of life, mud and music. It's gone commercial but it's still a laugh.

NormanTebbit · 24/06/2011 22:58

People on the Bono thread liked this

I worked at Glastonbury aged 15 to 19, behind the bar. That was (gulp) 20 years ago when they let everyone in for free onthe Sunday.

It's just too expensive for ordinary mortals now

omnishambles · 24/06/2011 23:00

toptramp - sorry about your mum - wishing you all the best.

Glastonbury feels like coming home. Every single time.

Pesha · 24/06/2011 23:01

I hate it this year because it is located directly between where I live and where dp works and I am 9 months pg so this is potentially a problem and has meant his journey taking twice as long this week.

Also someone he works with has taken holiday to work there emptying the toilets and setting up/clearing up (for vast sums of money!) which means dp can't take time off to come to hospital appts or anything with me.

Neither are huge problems I guess but as i said I am 9 months pg so allowed to be very cross at minor problems!!

Oh and I watched some of U2 and thought it was just embarrasing TBH, I cringed and turned over!

noddyholder · 24/06/2011 23:02

Thought U2 were fab apart from bono's mid life crisis too tight leather ensemble and the drummer has dyed his hair and now looks like my uncle jim who is also Irish,in fact it might be him

NormanTebbit · 24/06/2011 23:03

Toptramp - sorry for your loss.

I remember the drug dealers, tramps drinking meths - ah, the good old days. And Faithless Wink

omnishambles · 24/06/2011 23:03

faithless always good value Norman - "Glastonbury, this is your church"

toptramp · 24/06/2011 23:04

I used to love the lost vagueness fields. Pure midsummer madness.

swingingcat · 24/06/2011 23:06

I don't think it is expensive, £200 5 days camping, onsite toilets and showers.

Each camping area has a supervisor and if anything is stolen the on site Somerset police are very quick to help.

NormanTebbit · 24/06/2011 23:06

(sobs)

noddyholder · 24/06/2011 23:07

So sorry toptramp Sad xx

jugglingwiththreeshoes · 24/06/2011 23:08

Loving it ... but without the mud (and kids are asleep upstairs) ... on the telly !
Jimmy Cliff was awesome Grin
Glad I went to a few festivals back in the day !
But those days are gone ...

NormanTebbit · 24/06/2011 23:08

A superviser?

toptramp · 24/06/2011 23:08

I'm worried that my mum's death will make Glastonbury wierd for me in the future as anniversaries are so sad but it's also dds birthday during festival time. Glastonbury is a pure celebration of life. Have nostagic memories of bongos at the stone circles, waking up on the grass with no tent in sight after passing out and more hot men than is humanly possible. Not to mention the cider tent. Phoned mum up in the middle of the Paul Mcartney gig once. I made her year as she loved Sir Paul.
Stevie Wonder last year was magic. I think Beyonce will be amaaazing.

NormanTebbit · 24/06/2011 23:12

Yy to Beyonce

Toptramp - perhaps it will become more special for you.
