when have you been allowed to tell people that minipie? Hmm

kickingking · 20/06/2011 17:09

She made a legal choice regarding her own life and her own body.

It may not be the choice you would have made (probably not what I would have done either) but it is a) not of your beeswax and b) not anti-feminist.

TrilllianAstra · 20/06/2011 17:09

1 - no-one is worshipping her

2 - most feminists are pro-choice

3 - deleted by Mumsnet

Well, I never have as it happens wimpy, but I'm sure I've seen other threads where that has been said and the posts have not been deleted.

If someone comes on and calls another woman a selfish cunt for having an abortion, they can expect some pretty forthright responses.

ScarletOHaHa · 20/06/2011 17:12

I might as well put 'Message deleted by Mumsnet''. Her body, her choice.

Glitterknickaz · 20/06/2011 17:12

shoesy..... love it Grin

ZeroMinusZero · 20/06/2011 17:19

To put it politely, op, I very much do not agree with you.

Clytaemnestra · 20/06/2011 17:22

I love Caitlin Moran. Have downloaded the book but not read it yet. Hopefully your thread will have sold a few more copies for her Grin

WhereYouLeftIt · 20/06/2011 17:23

Is Caitlin worshipped? Can't say I've seen any evidence (hadn't actually heard of her before this book was being publicised).

OP, you regard CM having an abortion as evidence of being a 'selfish cunt'. Is that restricted to CM, or to any woman? Why does having an abortion mean you can't be a feminist?

There's an awful lot of messages deleted by Mumsnet, many by posters whose names I recognise and whose posts I generally enjoy/agree with. Hmm.

TobyLerone · 20/06/2011 17:23

So the OP is allowed to call Caitlin Moran a selfish cunt, but we're not allowed to tell the OP to fuck off?

Hmm

Since when is "I don't want to have a child" not a good enough reason for an abortion?
What more reason do you need?

Mumwithadragontattoo · 20/06/2011 17:28

I think feminism and being pro-choice normally go hand in hand. Why do you think this isn't the case?

happymole · 20/06/2011 17:33

Can't believe that OP can call someone a cunt but I'm not allowed to tell her to fuck off.

I don't understand why you bought the book in the first place. Presumably you are aware of how Caitlin Moran writes, and know she is a sensible robust soert of person with the same views as the averagely enlightened modern woman. Whereas you appear to have a rather strange and somewhat minority view that reproductive choice is incompatible with feminism...are you sure that when you signed up for your Feminism adult ed class that you didn't walk through the door that said Fundamentalism by mistake?

porpoisefull · 20/06/2011 17:37

OP, your morality is clearly that a foetus is a separate person with feelings and rights and therefore abortion is 'killing a healthy baby'. People who are pro-choice would generally say that a foetus, in the earlier stages at least, is not that - it is a potential baby, which is a wonderful thing, but it is not yet a separate person. Coming from that moral standpoint, equating abortion with infanticide is seen as extremely offensive.
Hope this helps.

townmouseorcountrymouse · 20/06/2011 17:41

enohpi, I agree with you up to a point. I'm not comfortable with abortion either though recognise it's necessary sometimes. However, if you dare to suggest that maybe, just maybe, ending the life of an unborn child isn't always the nicest thing to do, even if it might be the most practical, you will be torn to shreds on here.

I have had a termination as I was very very young but I certainly don't feel that it was in any way 'right' - just necessary. I feel sadness and guilt about it still. I hate this attitude that all that matters is the woman and her body and the way you're sneered at if you dare to suggest that it's a life that's been ended; a human life.

But you will get nothing but abuse from the vicious harridans on here - any suggestion that you're anything other than pro choice is met with the most horrendous aggression and abuse. I'd step away - I'm going to.(hides thread)
