Or is the Dettol touchless soap pump the most useless invention ever?

Why do you need to worry about touching the soap pump? The first thing you do after touching it is wash your hands!

Nanny0gg · 18/06/2011 19:57

Don't ask me - I still use soap that comes in bars!

LadyFlumpalot · 18/06/2011 19:57

Love your user name NannyOgg!

I think that everytime I see the commercial. Fucking pointless, hence my sister having one next to every sink, she is a fucktard

Oakmaiden · 18/06/2011 19:59

Yes!!! It is so completely pointless!

ToriaPumpkin · 18/06/2011 20:00

So glad I'm not the only one that has used the "You're about to wash your hands" advert. Most pointless thing ever invented.

LadyFlumpalot · 18/06/2011 20:02

Exactly! It's so infuriating. Every time I see it I scream inside...

Oakmaiden - Random question but I used to have a series of (surprisingly dark and gory) books about mice/squirrels etc and there was a royal squirrel called the Oakmaiden. Any relation to your user name?

If you think it sounds bad

and you will truly know that it is!! I nearly fell off my chair and "someone" in the room heard the soundtrack and asked if I was watching porn Grin

I told him I may have well as been, it definitely wasn't well!

pollyblue · 18/06/2011 20:13

Surely if you're that worried about bugs you'd have taps like they have in hospitals that you don't touch with your hands? You touch the taps, wash your hands, touch the taps again to turn off so it's the taps that are the potential bug-bearers, not the ruddy soap dispenser.

Agree, bloody pointless invention.

It's the stupidest thing ever. Designed to appeal directly to the OCD market.

I looked at the ad and thought; if people are paranoid enough to buy this thing they'll be outraged when they have to use their very own hands to refill it...it'll set off a whole new set of problems....and probably products....[gah]

Icelollycraving · 18/06/2011 20:33

I have one in the kitchen,I am paranoid though!
Most annoying is I set it off all the time without needing the soap.
Like the smell of the handwash though.

PumpkinBones · 18/06/2011 20:33

I HATE it. It is the epitome of all that is wrong with our obsession with anti-baccing / germs. (And yet hospitals are not as clean as they used to be - why?!)

molemesseskilledIpom · 18/06/2011 20:35

Am I right in thinking that only have I just wasted 4 minutes of my life I am never going to get back by watching that..but that also, you have to turn the retched thing off and on each time you use it?

It's quicker to use a bar of soap FFS.

I fucking hate Dettol and the paranoia they create.

LadyFlumpalot · 18/06/2011 20:41

Hang on. I see a flaw here...

You turn it on with your germy toilet/nappy hands.

Wash your hands.

Turn it off using the now germy switch with your nice clean hands?!?

Grin

They did not think this through, did they?

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 18/06/2011 20:44

I thought they were a pile of wank until I got one and actually I'm warming to them.

Dp is a pig farmer and usually comes straight in and washes his hands in the downstairs bathroom and leaves dirty marks all over the soap dispenser and sink, now he only has to knock the tap on with his elbow and the pump dispenses automatically so he doesn't make half as much mess.

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 18/06/2011 20:44

Oh and I don't turn mine off at all.

jamaisjedors · 18/06/2011 20:45

You touch the TAP before and after so the soap in the middle makes no difference surely????

They need one of the no touch taps too.

[eggs on the OCD-ers]

molemesseskilledIpom · 18/06/2011 20:46

5, your DP is a pig farmer, you can be forgiven for having something like that.

Icelollycraving · 18/06/2011 20:48

I have a tap I don't need to touch too :o

somethingwitty82 · 18/06/2011 20:56

I love it! don't know why, I just love toys

confuddledDOTcom · 18/06/2011 20:58

I have one. Laziness partly and also my eldest knows she only puts her hand under once so it's cheaper than when she was using loads because she kept pumping it.

Moodykat · 18/06/2011 20:59

Husband is a gamekeeper and sometimes the stuff on his hands doesn't even bear talking about, he bought one and the same as 5's doesn't make nearly as much mess now!
My main problem with it is that I thank it every time it gives me soap, which in turn makes me feel like a weirdo!

LadyFlumpalot · 18/06/2011 21:00

I think it is just the way that the advert insinuates that it is the definistive answer to germs that infuriates me!

Thanks LadyFlumpalot.Yours is pretty good too!
Wish I could take the credit, but it has to go to the genius that is Terry Pratchett really.
