Messy, for winding up my in laws, can you give me English for those? I'm determined to make her sweat after telling me no Irish names for dcs

PamBeesly · 16/06/2011 23:07

messymammy for President...Irish President...you can give David Norris a run for his money, well done on the names!

howshouldIknow · 16/06/2011 23:09

I would correct the consultant every time, I am stubborn. For some reason a lot of people can't say my name and tell me it's strange. Its quite simple imo so I think they are just being lazy.

superjobeespecs · 16/06/2011 23:11

Pam, I'd love to be president but think I'll let the lads have a run at it this time...It has been a while!Maybe next time...
MrsTwinks I'd tell your mother in law to fuck right off tbh!but I'll come back tomorrow with the English. some are simple enough (Aoibhegréine- radiant sunshine) but others will take a bit of figuring out!

Messy Cailín maith!

They are all brothers and sisters btw, my DM used to dread writing the Christmas card.

Oisín is lovely.Senan and Conal are nice for boys too and easy to pronounce.

Mary was good, we get much better women in charge than the English (I'm biased cos we have the same maiden name lol.. It counts as family damnit BlushWinkGrin)

elliephant · 16/06/2011 23:42

Nárbhflaith is indeed noble princess

Toirrdhealbhach- Turlough - the instigator from toirdhealbh 'to prompt'.

This Toirrdhealbhach was named after the famous blind poet Ó Cearbhalláin (O'Carolan) Us kids thought he was named after a geography lesson
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turlough_(lake)

Funny enough their parents was Mary and Sean Hmm

MrsTwinks · 16/06/2011 23:46

Turlough is Terrence if I recall, or as close to. I knew one who was named after his great uncle but they wrote it in Irish cos the uncle was a republican hero or something

messymammy · 16/06/2011 23:48

Well Conor is the anglisied of Connchubharr. Like its not even pronounced the same way or anything, like Séamus and James, or John and Seán I suppose.
Though I must admit to liking Orlaith...
