AIBU to think the foul language and vulgar tone of these threads is just too much

During the last few days the foul language, just a quick skim through the AIBU headings reveals such awful words, has been such that I don't think I will be coming back again too often. Mumsnet - Middle Class - Parenting orientated - really, is it really? Vulgar, nasty, ill mannered, spring more easily to mind. What a shame.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 15/06/2011 21:51

I would say the "horrendous underbelly of British society" are the ones saying that women deserve to be glassed in the face for pissing about with a few swear words

allegrageller · 15/06/2011 21:51

:-D
no really I'll let you have it bleeding just to prove to Vaga that not everyone on this thread is a cunt.

UrsulaBuffay · 15/06/2011 21:53

It's like raaaaaiaiiaiaiin on yoouououour wedding day

Vagabond · 15/06/2011 21:53

OK: Would any of you be proud to print this thread off and show it to RL relatives and friends and to own up that it's you. I doubt it. You are a PERSONA.

Just saying.

All talk and no action. THank god for that!

Rock Stock.... your brilliantly wonderful children would NOT be impressed by you on MN would they? After all, they have judgement?! Be honest. Most of your families would be ashamed. THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE USER NAMES!

UrsulaBuffay · 15/06/2011 21:54

Would you then, you fecking shrieking harpy?

Northernlurker · 15/06/2011 21:55

usualsuspect - I was passing over the more general attacks and mentioning only those addressed at a specific poster because frankly life is too short to c&p every objectionable statement on this thread.

Anyfucker - I'm not wild about the glassing and underbelly of society comments myself but in fairness to vagabond I think she was saying that if you call people you are liable to come up against so unpleasnt consequences in RL. On the internet you can say what you choose and only the poster at the focus of the abuse is hurt.Apparently quite a lot of you are fine with that.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2011 21:55

I wouldn't have a problem with printing this thread off and showing it to The Queen herself

she probably reads MN herself and has a right royal chuckle

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 15/06/2011 21:55

'a quick skim through the AIBU headings reveals such awful words'
'Vulgar, nasty, ill mannered'

It's not on to call another poster a cunt.
It would be reasonable to say the OP has a small minded, petit bourgeois attitude to swearing.

For reference:
Cunting Sainsbury's messed up my online shopping OK
That Hully keeps on about cunting goats OK
AIBU to think this random stranger was a cunt OK
You're a cunt (to friend) OK
X poster is a cunt NOT OK

usualsuspect · 15/06/2011 21:56

I have shown my DS this thread

hes 18 and swears more than me Wink

Omigawd · 15/06/2011 21:57

"You reflect the horrendous under-belly of British society."

Love it - but I am going to the gym, honest.....

@Northernlurksr and @Vag I think you are missing that most of this is being said by drunken tarts guffawing round their keyboards in a spirit of ironical deprecation

bleedingheartlefty · 15/06/2011 21:58

The statement "I still reckon you'll get glassed in the face" is a lot more horrible and vicious than a bit of lighthearted "cunt"ing imho.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2011 21:59

oi, I am not drunk

only Vagabond goes to pubs where they get glassed in the face as a matter of routine, ya know

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 15/06/2011 22:00

I would. My mother would laugh at the stupidity of it. And I will when I get back to England next week.

Er - yes, Vaga they're not judgmental, nasty people and would just roll their collective eyes saying 'mother'. Because they actually understand jest and what is essentially just a collection of words. I really do not care who knows who I am on here as I don't have a need to be anonymous. I am not on here to be impressed by anyone. And I don't come from a family of narrow minded idiots.

They are words. That's it. Some people bandy them around inappropriately and with venom, some don't. I'm in the latter group. But I do find you incredibly rude, narrow minded and frankly rather nasty and pathetic.

Northernlurker · 15/06/2011 22:00

No Omigawd - I'm not missing that at all. I just don't accept it as reasonable behaviour. Abuse doesn't stop being unpleasant and hurtful because somebody says 'Oh I'm being ironic'.

True - if you call someone a Cunt down the pub you'd be lucky to leave with all your teeth - on here it's all pseudo bravado and completely unnecessary.

HellBunny · 15/06/2011 22:05

Mumsnet is middle class?! Well excuse the fuck out of me for not noticing.

bubaluchy · 15/06/2011 22:05

what a ridiculous thing to get your knickers in a twist about, if you decide to take offence, don't read the thread, life's too short, words may hold some negative connotations for you but they're not offensive from their own side.

JoniRules · 15/06/2011 22:07

Vagabond - What you wrote is what I wanted to say. But you expressed it better. I don't know what the word is but I couldn't write exactly what i thought because i knew if I did I'd get sworn at, by complete strangers who don't even know me

GypsyMoth · 15/06/2011 22:08

not read whole thread, but i trust someone has directed op to netmums?!

youarekidding · 15/06/2011 22:08

"..they're not donuts, they're biscuits you fuckwit Grin" K999

Can we have this as quote of the week. I really cried laughter at that one.

No I wouldn't (for the record) show anyone my posts - not cos I'm ashamed but because this isn't RL, thats the point. I'm just a random name on a screen typing random words.

OP quite frankly you lost my sympathy at we're meant to be middle class.

usualsuspect · 15/06/2011 22:08
bejeezus · 15/06/2011 22:09

i think vagas posts are FAR more insulting than any of the others

Manners/ respect/ being non-judgmental is not about not swearing

JoniRules · 15/06/2011 22:12

EvenLessNarkyPuffin

It would be reasonable to say the OP has a small minded, petit bourgeois attitude to swearing

Why would it be reasonable? Why is the OP or anyone for that matter who chooses not to swear on here 'small minded'. In what way is that 'small minded'? I can think of lots of other attitudes that may be small minded but not objecting to swearing is not one of them. What do you mean by 'petit bourgeois attitude'?

A lot of the swearing and attitude on can be likened to behaviour when your're in secondary school and a teenager and you're like, 'look at me, I'm really pushing the boundaries here'
