Or even "now" not "know" Blush

needanewname · 16/06/2011 13:48

Well I still like the idea. Just because some MNetter recommend it, doesn;t mean we have to buy it but its nice to be nosey and you never know, there may be something useful.

Threadworm8 · 16/06/2011 13:52

I don't think it is cynical to think in terms of the revenue to MN -- and as Justine says, there is a revenue point to this initiative. Nothing wrong with them making money, because they are a business. I just think that the issues that arise, for the whole of Web 2.0, not just for MN, from our dependence on conversational spaces that are privately owned and commercially structured, are very important and sometimes very worrying (and always very interesting); so that as the poor bloody infantry in all this (both as consumers and as online talkers) we have an obligation to scrutinise a bit.

Even though I don't always agree with them, I know that MNHQ are vigilant about these issues too, and want to provide a good service. One of the ways that they do give us a good service is that Justine lets us punters quiz her about it on threads like these, and gives good input. I bet you can't get Mark Zuckerberg to chat about these things on FaceBook

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 13:53

yep, swanker, that is a concern for me too re the marketing trolls. i think that's my role, tbh, because i'm on here all the fookin time a lot, i will hopefully be able to spot 'em and ignore.

Longtalljosie · 16/06/2011 13:53

Well, I liked it and am going to buy the nail varnish. So there Grin

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 13:54

lolololool chaos. Grin

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 13:56

(it's nice, josie. just don't get distracted by the sales assistant trying to flog you some godawful blusher/bronzer and walk away without buying anything)

mrsbaldwin · 16/06/2011 13:58

Cor blimey what a lot of snarking here.

For the record I thought (a) the email was good (basically I've bought loads of stuff recommended on MN, both on the boards and via the discounts section - now it's organised into a handy list ) and (b) not really my concern but I imagine there are load of staff at MNHQ whose wages need paying so if it attracts suitable advertisers etc, great, IMO.

GLTC - they can put as many ads on here as they like, won't be buying any more rubbishy beanbags off them again.

Trolls - oh come on, everyone enjoys a good bit of troll-hunting, don't they?

Ladymuck · 16/06/2011 13:58

About time for this round-up, which I didn't get, but now I know about it can opt in (whilst wearing Boden top, Fly sandals, eating bread from my Panasonic 253 and drinking coffee from my DeLonghi Magnifica all courtesy of MN recommendations). Having been on here for over 10 yearsShock, even dh doesn't dare make a purchase without checking out MN - more reliable than Which in his view - except for cameras apparently. MN not very helpful on cameras....

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 13:58

ahem Aitch

I expect you to keep to your word

Pinkjenny · 16/06/2011 14:00

I liked it. But then I am always looking for an excuse to spend money. Dh would absolutely not like it.

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 14:01

spb lovey, what did we just say about trolling? Grin Wink

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 14:02
Wink
StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 14:03

excuse me that was the very next mooncup thread was it not? And was in the style of "101 things to do with your..."
I should get a job in vogue I really should. My talents are wasted here, as someone who "ensures full alignment exists across all interface points. Identifying opportunities for process & procedural improvement to provide the most optimum & efficient processes."

Ladymuck · 16/06/2011 14:04

Just realised that in fact all MN email goes to the email address that I had 10 years agoBlush.

Assuming that I can no longer access that account is there a link to the email anywhere please? I want to see what i have missed - clearly as I don't currently own a Jigsaw dress I am missing something. Sadly I do have the Lakeland chopping board organiser though.

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 14:05

did someone say something?

LadyThompson · 16/06/2011 14:05

Okay...bit of constructive criticism for ya: I skimmed it on my phone yesterday and, whilst I think the idea is reasonably appealing, found it a little waffly and unwieldy. Surely the point, in part, is to provide us with nuggets of useful info. Great, but can it be more of a nugget and less of a screed?

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 14:05

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Ladymuck · 16/06/2011 14:06

SPB - is there any chance that you could write my cv for me please. I'll try to explain what I do in English and you could translate for me.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 14:07

MNHQ as I have been so mature and professional on this thread will you give me a job? Shedloads of money, working from home. I will travel in at LEAST once a month darn sarrf. I can do loadsa things - I can be a general techy person until it gets a bit too techhy then I switch off a bit. I can analyse your data like no-one's business. I can write the round up with Aitch can't be bothered and claim she was having an off day. I can make the tea (well bribe someone local to make the tea).

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 14:08

well I thought I could turn normal words into management gobbledegook as well as the next person but that was from a job site and really takes the biscuit

Mrs1717 · 16/06/2011 14:11

Hello Mumsnet,

Couldn't you jsut have added it to your (very useful and nice to get) newsletter.

It is the arrival of yet another e-mail into the merciless inbox which annoys me!

That said, I did buy the Aldi touche eclat, so am pleased to get the info: So, a vote for yes please, but not as a seperate e-mail until the feature gathers momentum.

Please Grin

NormanTheForeman · 16/06/2011 14:13

What was that awful thing you linked to Chaos? It set off my trypophobia so I had to put my hand over the screen and close the link before I could really see what it was.....

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 14:14
