Sorry, Justine, that should have had a wink after it. TBH I don't think it's corrupt, but a business decision, which you are justified in making. It was a flippant comment and bears no resemblence to the contents of my brain.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 12:43

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 12:44

"i have never used the partnerships discount scheme thing"

What's the partnerships discount scheme thingy? Confused

I have no objection to the emails, I'll either read them or delete them depending on how many emails I have to read and what mood I'm in.

JustineMumsnet · 16/06/2011 12:47

@exhausted2011

well I think if you like S & B, you will like the email Personally, I come out in hives if I ever stray that way into Style and Beauty!!

I echo NormantheForeman

It will definitely not be confined to S&B - but they do an awful lot of recommendations over there so guess there will be quite a bit of it.

Shock

Consoling overtone ignored.

Probably because was made without accompanying baked goods.

Home-made custard cream to go with that?

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 12:52

Hmm no-one makes their own custard creams.

I don't have a problem with it as such mainly due to the fact you can get rid of it and being seriously out of the fashion stakes it was quite interesting to see what those of you who don't live in clompy boots and jeans wear.

I also don't mind due to the items being recommendations by Mnetters who I do trust a lot to be frank when making purchases. If Mumsnet Towers started picking said items ie endorsing for a fee then I would be hacked off-a lot.I guess this will happen just as the advertising policy changed.

I'm wondering to what extent "make some profit" will take.Seems to be something MN concentrate on a lot these days what with books, advertising etc.Just makes you feel a bit used iykwim.

Personally I have more of a gripe with the advertising on MN which I think has gone downhill. I see the McDonalds ads are here, slightly ironic the way they're an Olympic sponsor given the levels of worldwide obesity McDonalds contribute to.

I also see the GLTC is still here even though the bad service threads keep on coming. Advertising GLTC comes across as an endorsement so MNers get duped into using a shoddy company. It smacks of putting profit before all else to be frank.I'm presuming the recommendations on the new e-mail are slightly more reliable due to Mnetters actually being quoted.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 13:01

GLTC?

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 13:02

next mooncup thread, btw, is SO on the email. Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 16/06/2011 13:03

Nope, nope, nopety nope.

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 13:08

a lakeland ltd home-made custard cream press?

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 13:11

a potato masher

Threadworm8 · 16/06/2011 13:17

I actually bought something from Lakeland for the first time last weekend. A chopping-board organiser.

Is this how it starts?

There was a ferociously posh woman in the shop who loudly said "Everything here is absolutely useless and costs a fortune."

Threadworm8 · 16/06/2011 13:19

(The ferociously posh woman wasn't me, btw, even though my fish-out-of-water accent is regarded as posh hereabouts.)

ChaosTrulyReigns · 16/06/2011 13:20

ahem

swanker · 16/06/2011 13:21

A chopping board organiser? Who knew there were such things? I have a chopping board holder... it's called the tea jar!

swanker · 16/06/2011 13:25

2 things:

  1. this will lead to an influx of marketing trolls (a la the politrolls at election time). Fine, but I think they bring down the tone and do not add to the general help received on the boards.

  2. No-one will unsubscribe because MNers hate to miss something- we will all still receive it because we need to know what it is we're huffily exercising our right not to buy this week. Grin

Threadworm8 · 16/06/2011 13:26

As organisers go it is pretty poor. I was expecting to be able to organise them into playlists, or 'recently added chopping boards', or by brand, or to shuffle them. But basically it is just a toast rack.

culturemulcher · 16/06/2011 13:36

JustineMumsnet thanks for coming on to put us all me straight. I did think it was advertising revenue led, and feel a bit shamefaced - especially as I know think the group discount idea is great Wink

I'm going to give myself a good talking to about jumping to cynical conclusions, as well as about the trip to Greggs earlier (but that's a whole different thread)
