Sorry.

Is it just about fashion? Confused

ZacharyQuack · 16/06/2011 01:07

Is Aitch Gwyneth?

laptopwieldingharpy · 16/06/2011 01:11

did not even open it, went to delete box direct. How to unsubscribe please?

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 01:53

apols as am a bit peeshed and coming home late from A Thing but re the jigsaw dress, i thought it was a good one actually, very post-partum-and-therefore-mn friendly. deffo unsubscribe if you don't want the email, iirc it says that on the first line, but it was hand on heart no promo for jigsaw, just a nice frock that turned up on the S&B boards (and if you look at the thread attached there were a couple of people who had the dress already and absolutely raved about it). likewise the nail varnish, i looked at ballerina today and would have bought it had the mad woman at the counter not annoyed me. wouldn't have known to look for it otherwise.

and i don't think the plan is to be just about fashion, bertie, if slubber keeps converting people to the icey-tek coolbox the way she has been then that'll get a mention too no doubt.

of course it wasn't my decision to start the email, but i do think that it's the sort of thing a lot of people might find useful but yes, deffo hit unsubscribe if you don't want it. sincere apols to those who were ticked off. and now, shitting hell, look at the time. must go to bed. Grin apols again!

HuckingFell · 16/06/2011 02:21

Me likey. Well done Aitch

Tee2072 · 16/06/2011 04:59

I am not interested in the products since I rarely wear dresses and never wear make-up.

I did read the email out of curiosity and found the layout to be amateurish. Also my first thought was 'oh, a round up just for fashion.' Hmm 'More chance for the same 10 posters who are in round up very week to be mentioned.'

I am not a dress wearer nor do I polish my nails :) But I would like to suggest for the next "swears by" email that the self-stirring tea mug be included. Think it's the favorite toy of ApocolypseCheeseToast or whatever Apocolypse is calling herself these days ;)

And the temperature controlled butter dish!

DoubleNegativePanda · 16/06/2011 06:08

Wink even.

ZXEightyMum · 16/06/2011 08:57

That's a good idea DNP.

I think the dress is nice but I wouldn't spend that on the DC let alone on myself that's all.

Sorry Aitch.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 08:59

I hate S&B and I don;t mind getting the emails. As someone else said, MN is good spam. Also, the first line was about how to unsubscribe - I thought that was very professional

NasalCoffeeEnema · 16/06/2011 09:04

I want the email so I know what to avoid

Threadworm8 · 16/06/2011 09:08

The system has defaulted me to "off" for this email, I suppose because I have the other MN emails all switched off. That makes it seem not too spammy.

I wonder how these mailings work, commercially. Do they/will they carry adverts? Is the idea eventually to ask featured companies if they want to leverage the recommendations with advertising? Will it tie in with the 'Mumsnet Best' business model?

It just seems endlessly interesting to see how the talk space and its commercial potential interact with eachother -- I supppose because, in microcosm, that is the major question about Web 2.0 as a whole.

SpotsMumSally · 16/06/2011 09:53

I don't mind getting the emails, I might actually pick up one of those Aldi concealers next time I'm near one and give it a whirl.

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 10:25

nor would i spend that much on a dress, tbh, unless it was for a veh special occasion, but i'm just going to keep an eye out for a bit of consensus rather than price or my own personal style judgement (as i said, there were a number of people who had the dress on the thread, in fact one was wearing it As She Typed) and they absolutely loved it. and the person who got it was wearing it to a wedding.

jigsaw do have good sales, however, so having flagged it i am going to check to see if it's around then fo sho.

and the top shop nail varnish isn't expensive afaia, that's why i put it in, to give a breadth of price with the more designery polishes. still, all of this is helpful and constructive and i will definitely bear it in mind, so thanks. Smile i think it's a bit of a work in progress, tbh, esp the layout, so consider all feedback fed back iykwim.

YES YES YES to self-stirring mug and electric butter doohickey, let's do them, in fact if anyone sees anything on here (beauty product, shoes, frock, electricals, whatever, that they think is great), do send a PM, that would be really kind and much appreciated.

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 10:31

or pet thing. definitely pet things. oooooor, kids' gizmos... basically if a number of you lot think it's good, we might as well flag it to everyone who wants to get that type of thing.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2011 10:32

Aitch go back to bed for an hour then have a shower and cup of coffee :o

porcamiseria · 16/06/2011 10:33

I KNOW some shitty mumsy wrap dress, fxxk off!

AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 10:34

type of email i mean... i think i need coffee more than i thought... Wink

Tillyscoutsmum · 16/06/2011 10:35

I liked it but may unsubscribe just so I don't end up spending even more money on things recommended by MNetters

culturemulcher · 16/06/2011 11:21

swanker of course MNHQ are receivng advertising revenue from putting out the email - otherwise they wouldn't be able to afford to do it.

MamaVoo · 16/06/2011 11:31

I didn't like it either and opted out of future ones. It just seemed like mumsnet getting a backhander from Jigsaw to foist their stuff on us.

RustyBear · 16/06/2011 11:35

I got it this morning, and i think that dress may be just what I'm looking for for DD's graduation (she got her results yesterday btw, 2:1 in Psychology at Exeter, shameless proud mum bit there)

I just hope Jigsaw don't sell out before I get a chance to look at it properly.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 16/06/2011 11:47

Hoi!

Aitch!

I'm garnering consensus for ya.

Grin
AitchTwoOh · 16/06/2011 11:51

i know you are, nob-head, i've been on the thread twice. Grin i am afraid you are not without your critics though. [join the club emoticon] Wink
