I thought that was a mirror in the bathroom as couldn't believe they'd put 2 sinks on either side of teh bath. Is that right? Bathroom just looks really badly planned atm but could be changed

SureYouCan · 08/06/2011 17:12

No, dont worry it is not my house. Small garden- i agree. Awful from outside- is it? Why?

Now I know why our current house was on the market for seven months and such a bargain...people looked at it and said "I don't like their furniture". Hmm

valiumredhead · 08/06/2011 17:12

It's so not ugly, it's a perfectly good house and the fact it's so close to the station would be a bonus for me!

RCToday · 08/06/2011 17:12

I like it

The bathrooms massive compared to mine

MadameCastafiore · 08/06/2011 17:13

What about this?

grumblinalong · 08/06/2011 17:13

They are asking 245K for it? I'm in Shock We have just bought a house for £100K less, its got more reception rooms, it's in a 'nice' village & got a bigger garden. I am in North Yorkshire though. Is this what people have to pay down south? I can not believe it.

Why is there water in the bath? Confused

SybilBeddows · 08/06/2011 17:14

if you don't find it ugly then it isn't ugly as that is entirely subjective. Likewise, if you like the decor, then it's fine, and if not needing work is important to you, then that's suitable.

I would be worried about the price though. And though a 2 min walk to station is nice, it doesn't really matter whether it's a 2 min walk or a 15 min one, unless your dh is disabled and really can't walk, so it probably wouldn't be worth paying over the odds for.

Fimbo · 08/06/2011 17:14

If I explain why I don't like it from the outside I will look like a dreadful snob and probably insult about 80% of mners. Blush

JoySzasz · 08/06/2011 17:14

It has been dreadfully staged.

I really wonder if people expect to sell their houses sometimes Confused

However, having said that, if you have vision and can see yourselves there ~go for it :)

Is it an area you are very familiar with, are your family close by?

That would also have an impact for me.

SureYouCan · 08/06/2011 17:16

Fimbo, yes i thought it is ok comparing to other properties at this price bracket.

I don't think it's awful from the outside, SureYouCan. I think it's a typical 1960s/1970s style family home. It reminds me of some houses in the next village to where I live...it doesn't have the snob value (or monetary value) of some of the pretty cottages and some of those people would probably say the ex council home we have is "awful" from the outside as well...

valiumredhead · 08/06/2011 17:17

That is over £30k more madame OP said they can just about stretch to £245

grumblinalong · 08/06/2011 17:17

MadameCastafiore That's nice, still overpriced, but looks good. Are you Kirsty Allsop in RL?

SybilBeddows · 08/06/2011 17:18

those concreted-over front gardens don't do houses any favours - a lovely green lawn would look so much better.

though I understand why people do it.

NieuweBuurvrouw · 08/06/2011 17:18

If you like it from outside then it's fine, it's a matter of taste and it's not to mine. At all.

Purplebuns · 08/06/2011 17:18

Hmmm not too bad I am annoyed with my living room/diner i.e one long narrow room! So that would be a detractor for me. You could add value yourself and that is something to look for i.e rip out the bathroom, remodel kitchen. The garden is a good size and parking is fab. If the location is that good you would be crazy to not at least view it!

MadameCastafiore · 08/06/2011 17:21

Sorry - didn't see budget!

No am not Kirsty although would like her wardrobe!

Is EN3 the only postcode that you will consdier?

BrianAndHisBalls · 08/06/2011 17:23

It wouldn't sell here (worcestershire) even if priced at £100k, I can't believe the price!!!!

SureYouCan · 08/06/2011 17:23

Madame that's cheap for 5 bed!! I will check it, thanks!

Fimbo, do you mean that it looks like ex-council?

Yes, the area is familiar to us, it is not erm posh or safe but we cant get better with this budget.

OP posts:
MadameCastafiore · 08/06/2011 17:23

this one?

MadameCastafiore · 08/06/2011 17:24

Sorry no not that one is 2 bed!

Insomnia11 · 08/06/2011 17:24

You could have a kitchen/diner instead of a lounge/diner if they are adjacent. I want our dining room and living room to be made into separate rooms again and use the current dining room as a study/playroom. We eat in the kitchen anyway and have had 12 round the kitchen table with the leaf in so hardly need a dining table as well...though for some reason OH is attached to the dining table and chairs. (Not literally)

AllGoodNamesGone · 08/06/2011 17:24

Best thing about it, for me, is the garden. Looks easy to maintain, enclosed and safe for the children, and the big shed thing would be great for storage. I hate gardening so would be perfectly happy with the size!

I really hate the bathroom - why on earth is the bath in the middle of the room, when the room is so small as it is. It looks like you have to do a shimmy around the toilet to get to the far sink. Why have two sinks in such a tiny room anyway?!

It does look cramped but the current owners have a LOT of stuff in that downstairs room which must actually be a fair size to fit it all in. You could make that much nicer.

I think the outside looks fine and at least you have parking.

Location is so important and if it's in the right location for you, go for it. Especially, if it's in the catchment area of a primary school you like the look of.

MadameCastafiore · 08/06/2011 17:26

ok this one?

It's not that beautiful but looks like the people have cared for it.
