to think that DH should let DS have some choice in what he buys for him for father's day

not just puts something up on ebay and says he wants that. DS doesn't even know what it is so can't see the point in buying it.

DS is 5 and DH wants a new fishing reel

I wanted to take DS shopping to get something.

Nothing to do with the OP - but my (then) 8 year old DS bought me the Jurassic Park Trilogy on DVD one Mothers Day! Confused

VivaLeBeaver · 06/06/2011 18:58

I think your DH is missing the point of Father's day. Its not his birthday.

worraliberty · 06/06/2011 18:58

How can a 5yr old afford a fishing reel?

mrsdonkeybucket · 06/06/2011 18:59

Agree with Viva.

Choufleur · 06/06/2011 19:00

He can't afford. I would obviously have to pay. Although saying that DS does have far more money in the bank than me.

LeoTheLateBloomer · 06/06/2011 19:01

I'm with Viva too.

Do you choose your present for Mothering Sunday? Hmm

WhoAteMySnickers · 06/06/2011 19:01

I'd completely ignore what your DH wants and buy something your DS chooses. I adore the random gifts my DS chooses!

katvond · 06/06/2011 19:02

Let you DS buy his dad what he wants to buy. My DD will buy daddy a family guy DVD that he wants plus make him something at school.

No I got a book and a large bar of chocolate for mother days, which DH bought as he apparently didn't have time to take DS shopping

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 06/06/2011 19:12

I'd ignore DH's little 'suggestion' and get him a token present right back. Let him buy his own sodding fishing reel.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 06/06/2011 19:12

The acid test is what did you get for Mother's Day?

If it wasn't something specifically chosen by you, then there's no reason why your DH should expect to be treated any differently.

Take your DS to a shop of your choice so that he can choose a gift, or to the nearest £ shop and tell him he can choose any 2 or 3 items to give to his daddy on Father's Day.

Tell your DH that it is the thought that counts. and that if he can't get his brain around that concept he'll be setting a bad example to his ds.

Choufleur · 06/06/2011 19:23

DH is in a foul mood as he has an exam tomorrow and apparently I didn't tell him about the 'rules' surrounding mothers' and fathers' days. He gone off in a strop to take the dog for a walk now.

At least I get an hour's peace and quiet.

a fishing reel !!!
when my DS was 5 he bought a packet of sweets or fruit and helped bake a cake

Choufleur · 06/06/2011 19:26

DS wants to buy him some star wars lego so that they can play together.

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 06/06/2011 19:27

DS is a wise young man.

I think your DS' idea sounds very sweet. My DH would love it if DD bought him Star Wars Lego for Father's Day Grin She's only 15mo though, so she's bought him some chocolate that was on offer in Tesco.

MumblingRagDoll · 06/06/2011 19:31

Tell DH that DS is looking forward to choosing...and DH can buy his own effing reel.

How odd of him.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/06/2011 19:33

Starwars Lego sounds brill.

DD has got DH this wind up bug. Sure he'll be thrilled!

Choufleur · 06/06/2011 19:36

First few years I did just buy something for DS to give to DH so they were things that DH would actually want. can't remember what he got last year but I know I went with DS to buy it.
