just done missing posters, but in my heart of hearts, I know he's a gone - a. No road sense and never been away for more than a couple of hours before. Sob.

I am worried about going to bed in case he needs me. Stupid, I know.

There's no such thing as "just a cat" when they are your pet and you love them!

I would be absolutely devastated if my favourite either of my cats went missing, you are so not being unreasonable!

I really hope your furbaby comes back to you, let us know what happens xx

CRS · 05/06/2011 22:12

I think he is dead. He would've been home otherwise :(

Not read whole thread - very sorry to hear about pusscat :(

sorry if this has been said already if you have already done, but have you phoned round local vets? asked neighbours to look in sheds and garages?

Cats will often take themselves away somewhere if they are poorly, which, while that is a a worry in itself it does leave hope that he will recover and return. My old cat did two disappearing acts - one when she fell through greenhouse roof, dislocated her leg and horrible gash - came back about a week later needing surgery :( but she did at least come back. Then another time i had given her up for lost, she returned, i found her in my garage covered in ticks (another visit to vets to have the removed under sedation poor thing) But she recovered again from that. So, whilst these are a bit crap, it might simply be that puss is a bit under the weather and has curled up somewhere and will resurface when he is feeling a bit better?

Our local radio station has a missing pets section that i think it does every day or every week - that might be worth a punt. Set up facebook page for him and get your friends to post to their profile so it goes to their friends etc etc.

Good luck, I hope you find him x

There is no need to think the worst. Our cats have all gone missing for 24 hours at least once and one was away 7 weeks before he turned up dirty but all in one piece. You should make up leaflets for your neighbours to check in their sheds/garages etc as they can get locked in somewhere. Being worried is normal I am always a wreck when one wanders off. Hope your puss is back soon!

Nullius · 05/06/2011 22:25

Oh Ripeberry thats terrible :(

I too have a bengal and I dont let him out because I fear he will be stolen.

Seriously, you should report that monster, because people who hurt animals often progress onto people.

Am busy arguing with some fuckwitts on another thread at the moment yet another one about cat poo, saying to put chilli on them and set dogs on them...

So angry, seems to be the topic on MN, "How to hurt animals" Angry

Defo don't give up hope. Strangely I am in exactly the same situation, moved house on Wednesday (300 mile house move not a round the corner one!) and he got out friday night at around 1.00 am, haven't seen him since. I am worried as hell, don't expect him to come back as he is probably lost Sad or at the best (for him) been taken in by some cat napping twat (he has a collar and a microchip but i know people just decide to feed other peoples cats and keep them). Chances are yours will turn up. Best of luck.

MumblingRagDoll · 05/06/2011 22:30

OUr homebody cat went for 2 weeks...someone had ignored his collar and taken him in! They returned him when they heard my Nan in the post office telling the woman about him. He wasvery distinctive. Cat stealing is very common.

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 05/06/2011 22:31

Oh, he'll be back!

I have had numerous cats over the years and they have all done this.

Tiger, my 10 year old, is a real homebody and a creature of habit. She has 'gone missing' 3 or 4 times since we have had her... shortest time for 4 days and longest time for 12 days. She just turned up, as normal, meowing at the door. Cats roam lots further than a lot of people imagine. Most think that they just walk around the garden or over the lane, but they can literally travel miles.

Your cat will turn up - have faith.

ShowOfHands · 05/06/2011 22:35

Our cat went missing in October. I was frantic. He never, ever went far, was usually to be found curled up on the sofa. I assumed he'd been runover or hurt and couldn't get home.

Two weeks ago I was walking through the churchyard (about half a mile away) and the bugger wandered out from behind a gravestone and miaowed. I assumed it was just a very similar cat but when I tentatively called his name, he ran over and leapt up onto my shoulder (his normal greeting). It's definitely him. He followed me home, wandered in, went straight for his food bowl (we have two cats, so food still out) and then went to sit on the sofa in his usual spot. 8 bleeding months.

onceamai · 05/06/2011 22:37

Fingers and toes crossed CRS - and he's not just a cat he's a beloved pet and member of the family. Hope he turns up. He may be fine, we have a second cat who started visiting about 8 months ago quite skinny (then) and quite bold. I had to start putting down a bit extra food because otherwise our own cat wouldn't get enough (she's a bit of a pig). Anyway she spends a huge amount of time here and I think the odd night. She wears a collar and a few months ago it was changed. Have no idea where she lives - she's not microchipped because nipped to the vet at the beginning with her to check in case she was actually lost. Have asked lots of the neighbours and nobody seems to know her. We have refrained from petting and stroking her because obviously she belongs to someone else. Nevertheless every night when I get home from work there are two cats rubibing round my legs and begging for food. Hopefully your boy has got himself into a similar situation.

Fingers and toes crossed.

Numberfour · 05/06/2011 22:42

OP, keep advertising and asking around. I saw an ad for a missing cat in my neighbourhood, saw a cat that the dscription matched, called the number.... and the familiy found her cat. There ARE people out there that will ring you when they find her.

AgentZigzag · 05/06/2011 23:15

Eight months? Shock

That's so lovely you found him SOH, some kind bod must have looked after him in that time.

More people are nice to cats than are twats to them.

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 05/06/2011 23:16

Non MN hugs CRS... but hang in there!!
I am another who lost my beloved boy ..for 2 months. He never went ANYWHERE..just slobbed around the garden and about two houses down..then one day vanished.

He's a Maine Coon and massive and very obviously 'posh' and I thought he had been stolen... I walked miles every night for 8 weeks, (sobbing) calling for him..called all the vets put up posters etc.

Week 8 I had just about given up hope. Then having filled my car at the station about 2/3 mile away I did a weird thing.. turned left instead of right. As I realised my mistake a maine coon sized furball shot across the road into the bushes, from a farmers field. I slammed on the brakes and ran to the bushes and called his name... he RAN into my arms purring and miaowing! I chucked him in the car and drove home.

He was a MESS.. thin as a rail and flea ridden, sores on him.. and he looked very confused , as if he didn't recognise his house..he just knew my voice.
We kept him in for 3 months after that until we moved house and he settled in our new one. I am pretty sure he had been knocked by a car and concussed.. he seemed to struggle to see clearly too..the vet also reckoned he had been knocked and probably suffered minor brain damage. He rarely leaves the garden now!

My Mum also had a cat who went missing for 6 months! Then one day reappeared. ... :) It's pads were all worn and the vet reckoned it may have accidentally had a trip somewhere and walked a LONG way home!

Really hope your furbaby is home soon:)

FreudianSlipper · 05/06/2011 23:29

cats do sometimes jsut wonder off, that is their nature they can not be fully tamed (that is also what i love about them). one of my cats years ago went missing for 3 weeks then turned up as if nothing had happened. my cat i have now went missing for 2 days last year :( this did really worry me as totally out of character he is does not like to be out for long. he bounded back like nothing had happened though i suspect he was locked in somewhere as he was very hungry

i really hope he will be back soon. cats can go without food for quite sometime and have a cry i did when my cats went missing

Icouldabeensomebody · 05/06/2011 23:39

Hope the cat returns safe and well. My two wandered off and took up residence in the next street. Completely out of character, they'd never left home before. Put notices up on lamp posts and we had them back within two days. Think Goodnight could be right - perhaps the cat is shut in somewhere. One of mine went next door for a nosey once and my neighbour tripped over him at 2am! Hoping for you.X

SarahLundsredJumper · 06/06/2011 21:55

Any news CRS ? really hoping he is home Sad

eversoslightlytired · 06/06/2011 22:13

My cat is part of my family. We did lose one cat couple of years ago and I was heartbroken. Don't give up though. My mum's cat disappeared on Christmas Eve 2 years ago. We put leaftlets through all doors. 4 weeks later one of mum's neighbours told her that she could hear a cat crying in the garage opposite my mum's back gate. When she spoke to the owners they said they hadnt opened the garage since Christmas Eve when they took the kids bikes out. When they opened the garage out he strolled!

missismonky · 06/06/2011 23:06

Thinking of you CRS.

Onemorning · 06/06/2011 23:10

YANBU. Not even a tiny bit U. I hope your kitty is home.

One of mine went missing for a week a few years ago. He came back safe but very hungry.

Fingers and everything crossed for your boy's safe return.

CRS · 06/06/2011 23:28

Thanks - just checked mumsnet! Cat not home. It feels a bit weird not having him back, but thank you for hopeful stories. I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things; have read the "hate mumsnet being fluffy" threads!

Sorry for trivial post and I do have pespective - I know it's not that bad, maybe am a bit emotional and silly - my other thread got PROPERLY told off! Grin

OP posts:
Punkatheart · 06/06/2011 23:35

Not trivial. Not emotional or silly. Only you know how you feel and I know exactly how I felt when my boy went missing. I was very very ill at the time - having cancer treatment. He would sit on my bed watching me with his very large eyes. I was calmed, happy - the world seemed OK.

Fingers crossed. Lots of kind animal people on Mumsnet. They are thinking of you, I am sure...
