Bit ~ about this, all for BF but this smacks of social engineering... shall we extend it to the Mums as well, lets just feed them vegan food (no offence any vegans out there, just trying to make the point!)

Surrogate Mum

BumWiper · 04/06/2011 22:12

She obviously meant a surrogate primary carer for her newborn.

kelly2525 · 04/06/2011 22:12

Yes I mean she was his carer, I was joking when I called her his surrogate, and yes I am aware of what a "surrogate" really is, Im a 36yr old fairly intelligent woman, I have a job and everything

kelly2525 · 04/06/2011 22:14

ZX There is no need to patronise me, I dont need a link, I really do know what it means

BumWiper · 04/06/2011 22:16

Ps surrogate actually means a person appointed to act on behalf of another.

Not just carrying a baby for someone else.

ZXEightyMum · 04/06/2011 22:24

Im a 36yr old fairly intelligent woman, I have a job and everything (?)

I dont need a link, I really do know what it means (?)

Fair enough. Point taken. Carry on.

www.unicef.org.uk/BabyFriendly/News-and-Research/Research/Necrotising-enterocolitis/Breastmilk-protects-against-necrotising-enterocolitis-NEC/

Although the report has things back to front, bf does not 'protect' - it's the norm, the status quo. Its formula which is not the norm for humans and which increases the risk

BumWiper · 04/06/2011 22:30

There is a huge difference between a 31 weeker and a 37 weeker. Can I have the link to the breakdown of stage of prematurity please?

Thanks xxx

Finallygotaroundtoit · 04/06/2011 22:31

Any paediatrician will know all the research findings stuff listed on that site

Finallygotaroundtoit · 04/06/2011 22:33

Bumwiper what's your point?

BumWiper · 04/06/2011 22:36

I volunteer in parental support for premature babies thats all.Basically when a mother has had a preemie in my area I give them support, advice, listen, whatever is needed of me.

kelly2525 · 04/06/2011 22:36

ZX Is there a reason you`ve decided to target me and pick my posts apart tonight? Ive clearly upset you somehow.

Oh and my punctuation may not be to you`re liking, I know its crap, I just cant be bothered to correct it

ZXEightyMum · 04/06/2011 22:39

I do apologise. Quoting your unusually-presented posts was a terrible waste of virtual ink and effort of finger.

I have always believed that the mark of a civilised society should be evident in how it treats its more vulnerable and limited members.

They had those already sterilized glass bottles of formula for mine and brand new sterile teat every time. I think it's safer than everyone bringing in bottles, getting them washed and properly sterile when the patients and staff have got better things to do, not enough space, higher risk of infection.

Where does a woman recovering from a CS go to wash and sterilize her bottles for a newborn? I couldn't even walk for days after my first EMCS. My baby was in special care and they couldn't get hold of a breast pump for four days. The hospital was filthy. I wouldn't want to to wash my own things there, never mind for a newborn.

I wouldn't mind taking my own milk but I think they should provide disposable sterile bottles and teats.

confuddledDOTcom · 04/06/2011 22:47

Sorry micro, wondered if you can tell me what this big box of water the MWA just brought in my room is for. Silly me thought it was something to do with sterilising but it can't be can it?

Worm, you only answered one of my questions to you. Would you like me to call the MWA back and ask her when they're stopping the sterilising etc? I'm sat in the very hospital you're talking about but still someone said it doesn't happen here so either I'm lying to you; don't know what this box is for or the other person is mistaken.

Considering the fuss 5 years ago when BWH stopped supplying nappies to the NNU after the first couple of days I can't imagine that what you're suggesting would manage to skip the front page!

Finallygotaroundtoit · 04/06/2011 22:54

Bumwiper - oh I see Smile

Google's your friend or just look around the BFI website - your local hospital will probably be working towards (or already got) the award.

The parents you support should all have had this info

BumWiper · 04/06/2011 22:57

Oh no doubt they get all the info but its not always remembered, bigger things to worry about.

wubblybubbly · 04/06/2011 23:08

Sorry ZX, could you explain just who is vulnerable and limited here?

ZXEightyMum · 04/06/2011 23:18

Well wubbly, I think I am quite limited. And vulnerable. Did you have anyone else in mind?

fifi25 · 04/06/2011 23:19

Obviously ZX if she actually thought the 62 year old was a surrogate Confused

kelly2525 · 04/06/2011 23:26

The vulnerable and limited comment was directed at me

ZXEightyMum · 04/06/2011 23:34

Quite right fifi. I am autistic and can't comprehend language unless it is succinct and precise. Contextual sub-meanings confuse me.

fifi25 · 04/06/2011 23:36

rightyo ZX

wubblybubbly · 04/06/2011 23:44

Hmm Unconvinced.

ZXEightyMum · 04/06/2011 23:48

That's fine wubbly.

You must work for ATOS.
