loveday is a beautiful name

Thingumy · 31/05/2011 23:46

My children have 'different' names but not unusual or stand out nowadays.

Ds is the only one with his name in his school and dd was the only one with her name in her secondary school.

My mother has a male name so was deemed weird in the 50's/60's.

I like different names.

CRS · 31/05/2011 23:53

I seriously considered Aloysious for my son. Luckily, my mother is sane and pointed out that 1: It is a ridculously pretentious name for a person who is never going to be attending a public school, and 2: the most famous Aloysious for most people is a teddy bear belonging to a dipsomaniac in a work of fiction.

I do know a little Ptolemy, though.

(I have not become less insane - we are ttc and I am mad keen on Cordelia or Ophelia for a girl. Thankfully, can now add sane partner and his sane parents to my mum!).

manicbmc · 31/05/2011 23:58

Just don't give her a second name like 'bum'! Grin

CRS · 01/06/2011 00:01

There's nothing to worry about - I will, sensibly, be given no choice, and if we are lucky enough to have another child it will probably turn out to be Sue or John or something unbearably pedestrian. (I also like Serafina...)

nulgirl · 01/06/2011 00:02

Tiddlerslate - do you come from Glasgow? I know someone who calls their son shrimpy. It's not his real name though. Everyone calls him that because he has been saddled with a family name -think 5 generations. They need something to distinguish him from his dad, grandpa etc etc. Not sure they'll thank him for picking that nickname when he's a teenager :)

manicbmc · 01/06/2011 00:03

I quite like Seraphina. And also Serena. But I doubt I'll be adding to the population any time soon

CRS · 01/06/2011 00:06

Actually, thinking about it, Sue or John would probably be quite stand out unusual these days.... (and I'm having Serafina with an "f". For Sue's middle name!). Grin

scottishmummy · 01/06/2011 00:07

seraphina is beautiful name
hmm maybe im poncy do like some of the names here
really

Salmotrutta · 01/06/2011 00:08

Loveday may well be a beautiful name to some (I'm sayin' nowt) but IMO it is a name derived from a date- a day that is designated for settling arguments.
Why not just call your kid Birthday or Mother's Day* - same principle.

Although the woman I met who went by this name was doubtless used to explaining it she must have got bloody fed up!

manicbmc · 01/06/2011 00:09

I wanted to call dd Kizzy but the ex vetoed it.

CRS · 01/06/2011 00:09

I have the name of a woman of at least 65, and I'm only 33. My mother took the whole traditional and sane naming thing seriously, as she herself has a unisex name fashionable when she was born but considered weird (then) and was determined not to give any of her children "funny" names!

scottishmummy · 01/06/2011 00:10

no not serafina, a f too far.spell it properly ffs

CRS · 01/06/2011 00:11

But it is properly! If you're Spanish. Or Italian. Which I'm not. Wink

scottishmummy · 01/06/2011 00:12

i genuinely like a fair few names mentioned here

scottishmummy · 01/06/2011 00:13

loveday is cornish name.i like it lots
i dont think ive ever agreed with so many names on one thread, usually im grimacing and saying noooooooooooo thats a staffie on a rope name

CRS · 01/06/2011 00:16

How's about Delphine, scottishmummy? Cos I like that too (with the "ph" Grin ) and my partner said "You are mental" when I suggested that one.

scottishmummy · 01/06/2011 00:17

aye v pretty like it

CRS · 01/06/2011 00:18

See! It's not just me! Have a glass of Wine on me, as I also contemplate Adele and Ferdinand....

Salmotrutta · 01/06/2011 00:19

I hate my RL name by the way - it's extremely old fashioned (and not an attractive name) - rarely heard nowadays. But I like the meaning (Celtic).

scottishmummy · 01/06/2011 00:20

adele,ok but bland
ferdinand, not so much.higher history and the band

Salmotrutta · 01/06/2011 00:21

Delphine is a pretty name. Nice one CRS!

sharbie · 01/06/2011 00:21

best celeb child name ever

sara coxs' son

issac

do you think she ever tried saying it out loud??

CRS · 01/06/2011 00:22

I sympathise, Salmotrutta. My RL name is like Jackie or Valerie in terms of dated - ness. It has perfectly acceptable diminutives for younger people, but, oh no, I get the middle aged lady whose children are my age version.
