10 Things That Piss Me Off About Dogs And Their Owners

First of all, I don't hate dogs. I love my brother's dog, and I'll make friends with any canine in my immediate vicinity. They're mostly cute and loving and blah blah blah. But....

  1. A dog's unconditional love is not a beautiful thing. They have no choice. What are they going to do, pack their bags one day and 'screw you, I'm getting my own place?' They love you, or whoever the hell buys them, because you give them food and shelter and they are pack animals forced to hang around with a human. They 'love' a junkie who beats them, or a drunk old racist crank. They are the sluts of the animal world.
  1. Dog owners generally couldn't give a monkeys if their little 'babies' make other people sick with allergies, or have to step in their disgusting poop. Sure the law says scoop it up or you'll get a fine, but before that how many dog owners took any responsibility for filling the streets and parks with potentially child-blinding sh*t? Maybe three?
  1. Dogs aren't babies.
  1. Most kids are scared of dogs, especially strange ones. Most of us can probably remember being chased by some barking animal bigger than us while the owner laughed and said 'Don't worry he won't bite you.' How would they like it if I came round to their house and wielding an axe shouting at their kids 'I'm going to chop you up hahaha!', then said 'Don't worry, I won't really.'
  1. And sometimes they do bite.
  1. 'My dogs got me through my divorce, they were always there for me, etc.' I could say the same about cigarettes, but that doesn't make them sacred or noble, just dumb animals that would eat you if you had a heart attack and there was no other food in the house.
  1. I'm a vegetarian. If you love animals so much, I hope you have a good reason why some are like children and some are like a sandwich.
  1. Like spinsters and their cats, don't you notice how in general it's the people who aren't good with people that anthropomorphousize (sp?) their pets to a ridiculous degree? Fluffy does not want to wear a little Prada coat, and he doesn't have a favourite TV show. He just wants to sniff stuff, usually other dog's bums, and eat.
  1. And also f*ck, which dog 'lovers' generally make sure he can never do. Unless they've been inspired by that Nancy Friday book...
  1. And raise a family, which dog owners make sure they can never do. Humans take away all their babies and sell them, to other people who will keep them in an infantilized, unnatural state, just to feed their egos and their need to feel needed. Repeat - the monsters take away all their babies!

There, now half the forum hates me. If only I had a wet nose and a little tail they'd forgive me if I pooped in their handbag...

  1. Despite the name, I'm not much more fond of cats really.
  1. I'm not trying to antagonize, but I have learnt very well that many dog lovers take any criticism extremely personally. The dog owners that see the funny side of my post, yay you! So keep things light-hearted eh.
  1. If anything, the point of my 'semi-literate' post was to let some others like thingslapper know - we are not alone! We just never say this stuff to you dog owners faces cos that'd be rude.

V funny Grin.
Some true, some false, some a matter of opinion.
But made me chuckle, so thanks.

onagar · 30/05/2011 21:09

Completely agree with OP.

Will be back later to see the hate-mail from the dog owners.

Catmilk · 30/05/2011 21:10

Any need to be so abusive TidyDancer? Dog owner with no sense of humour? GFY xx

OP posts:
TidyDancer · 30/05/2011 21:16

Not abusive, truthful. It was a stupid OP and I will be avoiding you in the future. I don't care if you're serious or you think it's funny. Oh, and I have a great sense of humour thank you, just don't find you remotely funny.

AprilRose · 30/05/2011 21:20

I disagree with pretty much ALL of what the OP has said, but I fear there is no room for reasonable discourse so I'll just say this;

Yes, we do take these sorts of posts personally. Speaking for myself, my dog is as much a part of my life and my family as any husband or children could be (yes I have neither at this point in time, but no the dog is not simply a child-substitute) and so I take an attack on dogs (mine, or all dogs in general) as an attack on my family.

You're welcome to your opinion, of course, I'm just not sure what you wanted to gain from spewing it out on a board like this with a population of dog-owners and dog-lovers.

So I think YABU, not for having a negative opinion on dogs, but for writing a deliberately emotive post designed to grab attention for all the wrong reasons.

insertfunnynicknamehere · 30/05/2011 21:21

Totally agree with OP.I HATE dogs...I dont hate anything else in life but dogs...

I was away a few weeks ago with a colleague who I dont really know, for a meeting up the country. On the train, she is on the phone going " does he miss me? put him on the phone there...oh hello baby are you a good boy, do you miss mummy...." TALKING TO HER FRICKING DOG FFS....

I hate their smell, the hair, the general mess, and the owners who cannot stand the fact that some people hate dogs!!!

Catmilk · 30/05/2011 21:21

It was abusive. Learn what words mean. Don't let the door hit your etc...

OP posts:
Georgimama · 30/05/2011 21:22

I hate dog hair, and dog breath, dog smell etc. I still love my dogs.

Wilfimina · 30/05/2011 21:24

I never really had a problem with dogs until my son started school. Having to avoid the vast dogs toilet that surrounds his school (although ALL dog owners claim to pick up after their dogs) with a pushchair is a nightmare. People even take their dogs and let them do their business on the school playing fields so on several occasions the kids havent been allowed to play on there.
Also why do people feel the need to take their dogs on the school run? My son is terrified of them (it makes no sense really, he was bitten by a random cat in our back garden when he was younger) and ends up doing odd dances around them and shying away. And this is usually well inside the school gate where dogs arent supposed to be but "oh he wont bite hes just jumping up to be friendly".

LadyBeagleEyes · 30/05/2011 21:25

I'm sure I've heard this before somewhere.
These are not your original words are they OP? It's been copied from somewhere.
Dogs rule.(smile)

happy2bhomely · 30/05/2011 21:26

I thought that was quite funny! I am a dog owner. I'm not a massive dog lover. We have a labrador. I quite like her, she is sweet enough. The kids love her. I don't like her hair all around the house no matter how much I hoover. I don't like picking up her poo but I do of course. She is well looked after and gets plenty of affection but she is not a baby, nowhere close! She is not a member of my family, she is our pet. As dogs go, she is pretty cool and I will miss her when she dies, but I wont be getting another one. They are bloody hard work! To be fair, she loves us and trusts us, but I think she'd love anyone holding a sausage or smelly bit of cheese!

beesimo · 30/05/2011 21:27

OP

If any of my lasses Jackys 'met' you they would stare at you with a look of disdain why?

Because they know what your thinking!

TidyDancer · 30/05/2011 21:27

It wasn't. But think what you like, I couldn't care less. Although while you're at it, why don't you learn what words mean? You clearly do not understand how to make a point, since your OP spectacularly missed whatever one you were trying to make. Unless, of course, you were doing it to deliberately inflame. On no, you would never do that, I'm sure.
