or is it just me?

For what it's worth, this is the property we have our eye on. It's all we can afford and at this price it's a push anyway.

Bibbity wasn't bragging. It's all relative, but if she could pop over to Putney sometime and sort out my lame excuse for a magnolia I'd be very grateful. Give you some wisteria cuttings Grin

We live in a beautiful house in the countryside - I love it very much. It's not MY house, but it is my home. I will not be able to buy it unless I murder an inconveniently large number of my loved ones, but I have a fantastic long term tenancy. The only thing that pisses me off really is the vast bloody lawns that take about six hours to mow beautiful back garden. It doesn't matter that I don't own it.

What's really good about not owning it is that when the boiler packed up (£2000), the living room floor had to be replaced because of wood worm (£7000) and the cooker (oven and hob) had to be replaced (due to the fact that they were homicidally dangerous - £900), I wasn't paying.

When it's all sorted, I will start the necessary murder spree to get the deposit... Grin

Im going to move have ours on the market. On looking at houses I found a really nice one, I just dont have the 1.8million :-) The houses I would like to live in are 40k over our budget so f annoying isnt it.

CRS · 31/05/2011 00:02

We COULD all do that "Strangers on a Train" thing - I'll murder yours if you murder mine? Wink

CRS · 31/05/2011 00:04

(I only need £150,000!)

CRS · 31/05/2011 00:04

(For the whole house, not the deposit!)

biscuitmad · 04/06/2011 22:36

The house itself looks nice. But you can only fit one car on the drive. You need to go and look at the road to see if you can park in the street. You might find you need to buy permits.

Also how big is the garden, my garden is 30ft by 30ft and I find it too small with a toddler.

Im not impressed that they have only got three photos on. I would recommend looking into the area to make sure its got everything you need. Then go and view it to make sure.

Oh it's in woodford green... See I'd see that as bragging as I'd love to live there as all my friends do, but I have to live near my dhs work Sad. you are lucky!!!

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 04/06/2011 23:05

here

This is what 285k will buy you in my county.

LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 04/06/2011 23:06

It isn't bragging if people show their homes.

We're all expected to eat humble pie if someone goes on about how their council house is their home and one day they will buy it and as soon as some of us mention our homes, we're bragging.

Utterly ridiculous.

begonyabampot · 04/06/2011 23:41

wish i had a house worth 'bragging about' though not complaining as my house is fine - just not my dream one.

Love to see if anyone was brave enough to start a real 'bragging' thread - that could get interesting.

reelingintheyears · 04/06/2011 23:47

I bet you worked hard for that house Lady......

Why should you be ashamed or feel like you are 'bragging'..?

begonyabampot · 04/06/2011 23:53

Guess it's the 'British' way though, the more successful someone is the more you are supposed to downplay it and just be happy that you have it easier than most. Some other countries are much more up front about it all.

Gooseberrybushes · 05/06/2011 00:00

It's charming. Hope you are happy there. I feel sorry for people who can't even think about their first home. Prices are nuts. I am lucky to be my age - ten years younger and we would struggle. The market was right for us. That's all, no special skill. Serendipitous timing, nothing to brag about. Our children will rent forever I think.

SybilBeddows · 05/06/2011 00:04

depends how much house prices come down; I agree with the people who think they're unsustainable and there's going to be a big fall (though probably over a few years and disguised by inflation rather than a sudden crash).
they may well stay high in London and the SE though.

Gooseberrybushes · 05/06/2011 00:07

yes wot bibity said

what we have we worked hard for - but I can't brag at the "value" as it's nothing to do with me - and am not even happy about it because prices like that mean my children are excluded from the market

MumGoneCrazy · 05/06/2011 00:23

In my area 290,000 will get you a 5 bed detached house but due to DP getting laid off last year and having no savings we can't even afford a 1 bed flat at 64,000 (which we wouldn't buy even if we could as the 4DC wouldn't fit in there)

Katy1368 · 05/06/2011 04:24

troisgarcons - this house isn'e in Walthamstow but in Woodford Green!

Do agree that walthamstow is yuk though...

Karbea · 05/06/2011 08:02

katy1368 my ex husband and I were carjacked in walthamstow so I'm very anti there as a place!

whiteglovetest · 05/06/2011 08:08

What gets me is the "oh its so much more expensive here down south, you can get lots for your £ up north". Actuallu, where I am , property is really expensive and Im "up north".

Ormirian · 05/06/2011 08:17

Woodford green was where DH lived for 2 years when he were a littl'un. Does it have a peach tree in the garden?

But i have to say 'hoooow much?'. It seems such a lot of money to me!

onceamai · 05/06/2011 08:24

It's all relative isn't it. Depends what you would get for £285,000 where you happen to live. Here in Putney it's an entry level small one bed flat in the private sector. To me £285,000 for the house the OP has linked to looks really good value and it looks like a very nice house indeed for that sort of money.

TotallyLovely · 05/06/2011 09:04

whiteglovetest well it's all relative isn't it.

TotallyLovely · 05/06/2011 09:12

Karbea Where abouts in Woodford Green do your friends live.

OP I know that road, almost bought a house down there myself. It's nice. Only problem in the parking, you don't need a parking permit but everyone has a car so it's hard to find a space.

If you want to know about schools just ask.
