To be sick of the property bragging on here lately.

or is it just me?

For what it's worth, this is the property we have our eye on. It's all we can afford and at this price it's a push anyway.

I'd move further out of London and look for something bigger if that was my budget. It looks nicely decorated, but poky.

TimeForLunch · 30/05/2011 13:34

Don't know about any property bragging, but the house you have your eye on looks lovely. Woodford Green is the next town along from where I live. It's a great location near the forest and yet close to the city. The price seems very reasonable for the area. Good luck.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2011 13:35

Gosh no, YANBU. God forbid that people who happen to be lucky enough to afford more should want advice about property. We should all pretend to be looking for 1 bed ex council flats just to make everyone feel comfortable.

Sheesh.

worraliberty · 30/05/2011 13:38

In Newcastle you could probably get a similar house for 100k. I feel sorry for Southerners

But the pay is relevent surely?

Georgimama · 30/05/2011 13:38

I can only dream of being able to spend £285K on a house, and DH and I both have good jobs.

And LeQ makes a very good point, you don't know how long it has taken people to get up the ladder to wherever they are. I tend to assume everyone on MN is similar to me in age/income/situation (because I am just intellectually lazy like that) but commonsense tells me they aren't. Some posters on here are 20+ years older.

Psammead · 30/05/2011 13:38

Ithink you'd need to be careful with furniture. Storage looks like it could be a problem, if you look at all those boxes in the bedroom.

With careful planning it will be a nice home.

BlooferLady · 30/05/2011 13:39

Yes, well, that's bragging by my standards Grin. That is a lovely solid homely town house that I would cheerily kill for.

FWIW I live in a rental 1.5 bed flat in Bethnal Green, having been married 11 years, and with DH and I both having professional jobs. I doubt we'll ever buy a house, and if we do it will be because someone died, so I'm not necessarily looking forward to it.

Doesn't bother me all that much nwhen people talk about their nice homes - they're not depriving me of one, are they? Doesn't work like that!

Greenstocking · 30/05/2011 13:39

I can only dream of living in a house.
We all live in a damp cardboard box under a bridge. :(

BulletWithAName · 30/05/2011 13:40

troisgarcons I won't flame you! It's a shithole

ShellyBoobs · 30/05/2011 13:40

YABVU and hypocritcal.

I know you've now said you're being ironic, but I don't see any irony in your OP? Confused

My friend and her OH both work full time and are struggling to buy a property which is almost exactly half the price of the one you're talking about.

I think it says a lot that you don't consider a 285k house something to feel very thankful for.

fifi25 · 30/05/2011 13:42

Worral - Dont know, do southerners get paid that much more than Northerners.

emmanumber3 · 30/05/2011 13:42

I wish I could afford a house anywhere near £285k! I may not have seen the threads you're talking about, but, the ones I have seen have been more "fantasy" threads - "what would you buy if you would the Lottery?" kind of thing. That's not bragging, it's just daydreaming Hmm.

emmanumber3 · 30/05/2011 13:45

Greenstocking - Damn it, I knew one of my neighbours would crop up on here sooner or later! Grin.

bibbitybobbityhat · 30/05/2011 13:45

I find looking at other people's houses fascinating, and the price differential around the country is amazing! There is a sneaky view of my house on my profile (behind my bragging picture of my magnolia tree!), it is an utterly ordinary three bed Victorian terrace that needs a fair amount of cosmetic work doing to it. I am pretty blase about how much it is worth (because, of course, it is the norm for my neighbourhood) but it is pretty shocking when I really sit and think about it. But then, having worked in property in Chelsea, where a house like mine would be worth around the £2.5million mark, it doesn't seem so unreasonable after all!

papermate · 30/05/2011 13:45

its looks lovely. I prefer it to the £550k new builld one someone else was considering buying. It looks as if it would make a lovely home.

cheekeymonkey · 30/05/2011 13:46

Don't the sellers think it might have been a good idea to move all that shit out of the bedroom for the photo's?

Lovely house but not exactly 'selling' it with all that clutter!

ChippingIn · 30/05/2011 13:46

You are confusing ironic with hypocritical.

It's a lovely house - why didn't you just start a thread saying 'We are thinking of buying this' if you wanted to have everyone tell you how lovely it is opinions?

Ruprekt · 30/05/2011 13:46

I love how the OP has suddenly disappeared because her ironic comments did not go down well!!

MarianneM · 30/05/2011 13:48

I didn't really get the irony either. And I wouldn't want to live in Essex Grin although the house itself looks very nice and we could only dream of a house like that.

When (if!) my DH goes back to work we will be looking for a 2-bed flat for around £250k in Muswell Hill, which will be tough because property is so expensive there. I'd choose an area over a big property any day, but I think I'm in the minority.

ChippingIn · 30/05/2011 13:49

Bibbity - I love your house - I want one just like that in Putney

Cheekey - I thought the same! It makes the room look small and it's really not. Get all of that crap out and the imposing built in furniture and it would be a lovely room.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 30/05/2011 13:50

Greenstocking, a cardboard box?

A cardboard box?

God, we'd kill for a nice cardboard box, around here. It's damp soil and like it for my family.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 30/05/2011 13:51

Bibbity, your house and road look familiar - are you in SW London? < envy >

Mollydollydoll · 30/05/2011 13:51

I don't like braggers myself I couldn't give a flying fuck what house anyone lives in!

ChippingIn · 30/05/2011 13:51

I wish £285 bought something that cute around here. All it gets you around my way is a very boring 70's built mid terrace.
