AIBU to think Adelle is greedy, ignorant and ungrateful?

Surely most people would just be pleased that they'd earned £8 million, and grateful to the general public for spending so much money on her music?

Also, while she clearly doesn't realise trains have been privatised, she presumably never plans to use a road or pavement again - as clearly her tax bill couldn't go towards paying for them? Likewise I imagine she never plans to avail herself of the police, fire or ambulance services? Nor of course is she benefiting financially from the various free-trade agreements (worked out at the taxpayers' expense) that allow her to sell her music overseas and thus get such a whopping tax bill? She make think state schools are shit, but she went to one - who does she think paid for it?

Why is it the more money people seem to earn the stingier they get?

Id rather be big, than have a attitude of shes big, so she should just suck it up!. only those that are narrow minded and idiotic have that mind frame.

I dont blame her for having a big old moan about the taxes she has to pay. I complain at my 22%, id be fucking living, if I had to pay 50% back of my hard work!.

trice · 27/05/2011 13:04

I remember opening my first pay packet and wincing at the tax. I imagine a £4 millon tax bill would make me swear too. However we all grow up and learn to live with it eventually. God I am glad the media don't record my rants - I would sound like a proper twat.

ggirl · 27/05/2011 13:06

It just reminds me that she is actually still very young and has a lot of grwoing up to do.

ggirl · 27/05/2011 13:10

just read thread
lol at some of your comments
you lot sounds worse than she does

LDNmummy · 27/05/2011 13:11

Oh for goodness sake, the girl said somehting we all talk about in politicaly themed threads. The only difference is that she is a public figure and well off. She probably meant that if she was going to be taxed that much she would like to see an improvement in the services she uses. $ million is a lot for one person to be taxed to then look around and see no changes to the public services that are steadily going down the tube in this country. She didn't word it well is what has gone against her IMO.

Some of the comments on here are disgusting:

"well she can't be exactly languishing in penury or starving in a garret can she....have you seen the size of her?

she may be rich and famous but she's a right fat old cow."

MisterDarsey · 27/05/2011 13:11

Here's an idea. If people downloaded her stuff for free off the internet instead of buying the albums she wouldn't have to pay any tax would she?

Sorted!

Finbar · 27/05/2011 13:11

piratecat -thanks for posting that Katy Brand video - made me laugh out loud!
Says it all really.

LDNmummy · 27/05/2011 13:12

Most people on here sound mightily jealous too. Pathetic really because I'm sure plenty of you are older than her and should be able to articulate yourselves without stooping to nasty insults about her appearance and talent. At the end of the day she is earning s much because the majority have deemed her talented enough to spend money on her album.

And the people saying "well I'm glad I downloaded her album and didn't pay for it", you realise that is stupid in itself as you actually went through the effort of downloading her music at all to listen to which means you contribute to the idea that she is talented? Then you come on here to slag her off Hmm

I understand if you don't think she is talented LeQueen, but the comments on here are nasty and unecessary.

Saying the only other option she probably would have had is working at Asda is symptomatic of a mob mentalitity where people are looking for any reason to slate this girl in a bullying manner.

You might not like her music but obviously millions of people do. And how do you know Asda was probably her only other option, that doesn't even make sense as you couldn't know that.

This whole thread is just putrid and nasty.

LDNmummy · 27/05/2011 13:39

mob mentalitity lol, meant mob mentality obviously.

Did anyone watch her at the Brits recently?

Her performance, singing only accompanied by a piano, infront of thousands of people was spine chilling. No miming for her.

She actually writes her own songs too, which can't be said for many other "stars".

donnie · 27/05/2011 13:57

'spine chilling' ? oh please....the bar is set pretty low then if you really consider her 'spine chilling'.

Agree - the Susan Boyle effect.

Columbia999 · 27/05/2011 13:59

I can't believe some of the snooty remarks about the way she speaks. She's from Tottenham and that's how they talk there!
She's very talented and from the interviews I've seen and heard, seems like a nice, funny girl. But she's very young, and a lot of young people talk a lot of bollocks, especially when they are being asked for their views on subjects they don't know much about.

noddyholder · 27/05/2011 13:59

I think there are a lot of susan boyles but adele is not one. Have heard her live in small venue and am not really a big fan but her voice is really moving. It has a really strange quality when unaccompanied which is indeed spine chilling. I love it that she is moaning about stuff still and not just letting someone else take care of the accounts with no clue as to what she is paying to who! Good luck to her drinking cider in the parks for teh summer

LDNmummy · 27/05/2011 14:00

Wait wait wait! Thank you sooo much for enlightening me on 'The Susan Boyle' effect.

So glad that you have highlighted to me that I don't actually like this girl's music and have just been taken in by her persona as an ugly girl who has overcome the odds.

Pathetic

AccioPinotGrigio · 27/05/2011 14:03

Adele has been number one in the US Billboard chart - single and album - for what ... how long now... 9 consecutive weeks! That is not to be sniffed at and very few female, let alone non-american, female artists have managed that. To put that down to the 'Susan Boyle' effect is a startlingly dismissive statement as is suggesting that there are hundreds and thousands of singers who are just as good as her vocally. It isn't just about vocal talent, it's about writing talent, it's about performance charisma, chutzpah. It's about being the whole package. Give the woman some bloody credit, whether you like her music or not. Personally, it ain't my cup of tea but I respect what she has achieved.

LDNmummy · 27/05/2011 14:05

Oh and I wasn't a Susan Boyle fan nor did I like her music if that makes any difference.

Pedallleur · 27/05/2011 14:09

She wouldn't be paying that if she had a good accountant. The Rolling Stones only paid 6% on £70 million about 4 years ago but their finances are done thro' Holland. U2 use the same system. She could also move to Ireland where artists don't pay tax (stand up U2) altho' that might have changed recently hence Bono moving the money

Peachy · 27/05/2011 14:11

You know, if she had a serious accident next week that 8 million she earned wouldn't pay for her care for an average lifespan if she needed residential care, let alone anything else.

Scary huh?

Very few of us know for sure we won;t need services- heck I sure as hell did not when we were working FT though thankfully I never complained about taxes either as I'd feel a right plonk nowadays.

But I do think that she is very young; it only takes a Nan with care needs or a similar thing to start to realise.

QuickLookBusy · 27/05/2011 14:16

Agree with you Pedall about a good accountant.

When I read the article, I took it that she was shocked about the ammount for her album 19

If she had had good advisors she should have been aware years ago what her tax bill was going to be. She's obviously had crap advise.
