Surely most people would just be pleased that they'd earned £8 million, and grateful to the general public for spending so much money on her music?

Also, while she clearly doesn't realise trains have been privatised, she presumably never plans to use a road or pavement again - as clearly her tax bill couldn't go towards paying for them? Likewise I imagine she never plans to avail herself of the police, fire or ambulance services? Nor of course is she benefiting financially from the various free-trade agreements (worked out at the taxpayers' expense) that allow her to sell her music overseas and thus get such a whopping tax bill? She make think state schools are shit, but she went to one - who does she think paid for it?

Why is it the more money people seem to earn the stingier they get?

She sounds thick as pig shit. She announces her songs on the radio as "This is Adele, on Radio Aire, ninety six point free..."

Obviously the state school she went to was crap, or no one ever taught her to speak properly.

And her comments are petulant and ignorant.

cornflowers · 26/05/2011 19:11

She remains, however, significantly less annoying than Bono. Or Sting FTM. Just saying.

freshprincess · 26/05/2011 19:32

ilovesooty - she went to the Brit School, a state funded school

taylor74 · 26/05/2011 19:35

Not my type of person or music

noddyholder · 26/05/2011 20:36

She has an amazing voice though and writes some heartbreakers. Not everyone has to be the same. I hated paying tax when I was younger I had a really good restaurant manager job for years in London but when they decided to tax our tips even the most worthy among us lost it and threw their toys out of the pram!

PeterSpanswick · 26/05/2011 20:52

Now Adele's views can go on my list of things I find irritating about her - including her music and her grumpy bulldog-chewing-a-wasp face.

petaluma · 26/05/2011 20:57

She's only 21 FFS, we've all said ridiculous cringeworthy things when we were younger. She'll probably look back and realise what a knobber she's been and learn her lesson.

Georgimama · 26/05/2011 21:07

She's perfectly entitled to the opinion that a lot of the public services funded by taxation are frankly, a bit shit. I agree with her.

seeminglyso · 26/05/2011 21:32

Yes I agree she is young and naive and one day she will regret saying that. She does need to remember that the people who are making her rich use those services and that if she hadnt had some good fortune she would still be on minimum wage herself (assuming with comments like that she is lacking an education, hence the comment about state schools).

JoniRules · 26/05/2011 21:52

She's just young and spouting nonsense as we are all prone to do when 21...give the girl a break. She's not some spokesperson

ZXEightyMum · 26/05/2011 21:59

I knew an Adele and she was a proper cunt.

This tends to cloud my judgement.

But on balance, she is just being young. Weirdly I was a bit of a nobber right-wing when I first started working too. Becoming a fully-fledged and responsible adult takes a bit of adjustment when you have had it easy for too long perhaps.

flyingspaghettimonster · 27/05/2011 00:20

I think I'd feel exactly the same if I saw I was only getting half of what I earned, especially if I had private health care and no kids... never heard of Adelle, but she has a point, it does seem a lot...

TechLovingDad · 27/05/2011 09:02

ZXEightyMum (great name), that is quote of the morning for me "I knew an Adele and she was a proper cunt". Quality Grin.

kerstina · 27/05/2011 10:06

Someone mentioned she is a labour party supporter but how can she be if her attitude goes against everything the labour party stands for. I just think how much money does one person need and she needs to remind herself she would probably not be in her position if it was not for teachers from a state school. Don't know her background though did she go to the Brit school ? She should actually educate herself about what taxes are paying for.

TechLovingDad · 27/05/2011 10:14

She's just like most "celebrities" though, very self absorbed. They don't see past their own noses.

cupofteainpeace · 27/05/2011 10:28

Bless her.
She has so much to learn about life.
SO little life experience.
At least she's paying it and not dodging it!!!
Thank you Adele. You are helping a lot of people less fortunate than yourself. You may sleep sound at night.

Abra1d · 27/05/2011 10:30

Seriously? You'd look at a tax bill for £4 million and not think that that is a lot?

duchesse · 27/05/2011 10:43

She's only paying 50% of her earnings like everyone else on over £50,000/year. Paying £4m in tax means she still has £4m in her bank, which is a lot. Most people earning over £30,000 are paying at 30% of their income straight to the government, to pay for all the things already mentioned. It's just a shock when you first start working to discover that the money for the roads, schools, airports, nuclear power stations, armed forces etc. etc. all comes from your pay packet. Why should Adele not be allowed to experience the same shock as any other young person?

Al0uiseG · 27/05/2011 12:31

She should have become Adele Ltd then she could have paid 20% on her dividends. She's not getting good advice.

JoanofArgos · 27/05/2011 12:32

Silly mare.
James Delingpole applauds her in today's Torygraph.

MotherSnacker · 27/05/2011 12:37

She should try living on the minumum wage or a state pension. Silly cow doesn't realise how lucky she is.

donnie · 27/05/2011 12:39

well she can't be exactly languishing in penury or starving in a garret can she....have you seen the size of her?

she may be rich and famous but she's a right fat old cow.

donnie · 27/05/2011 12:39

rich people who complain about their tax bills......just fuck off and suck it up!

noddyholder · 27/05/2011 12:44

What has her size got to do with it?

BulletWithAName · 27/05/2011 12:57

Not being funny, but I'm 23 and I know that you have to pay your taxes. That's just life, you have to get on with it. Stupid cow.
