In thinking people that don't keep their body hair under control are weird ?

I've seen topics on here about it and really have trouble understanding why anyone would want hairy legs or even worse hairy armpits and a crotch like a badly kept privet ?

and this one

"
so by keeping it under control you mean trimming leg, under arm and pubic hair then rather than removal?"

LucretiaInShadows · 25/05/2011 14:10

Morloth I don't know when it started, but my Grandma (born 1913) and her sister (born 1910) couldn't agree on it when they were young, so, 1930s-ish. Dark-haired Great-Auntie shaved her legs, blonde Grandma said she was making work for herself and thought she was daft.

MooMooFarm · 25/05/2011 14:10

But PS while the kettle's on - why would you care, really? I 'do' all my bits and TBH most of the time I find it a pain in the arse (literally sometimes) Grin.

Part of me would love to not bother, keep the time and money spent to do something more worthwhile/fun, let it grow and sod anyone who doesn't like it.

Camerondiazepam · 25/05/2011 14:12

Oh MooMoo that is TMI!

MooMooFarm · 25/05/2011 14:14
Grin

There are certain "fashions" I find weirder. Leggings without a long top covering your arse. The whole plastic pornstar type look both much weirder than an unshaved leg.

peacemoon · 25/05/2011 14:19

It's all down to porn that we should all be hairless now!
Stop watchin porn and it won't bother u 1 way or t'other!

MooMooFarm · 25/05/2011 14:21

Yeah op stop watching porn

mrsravelstein · 25/05/2011 14:21

i might not shave my legs if i had the nice tanned skin with just a bit of downy fine golden hair that i've seen on some other women. however, i have very pale with black thick & long hair on my legs and arms which just doesn't look nice, to me, and i imagine wouldn't look very appealing to anyone else either.

marge2 · 25/05/2011 14:21

I find removing pubes other than bikini line spider legs when going swimming odd, but what I found SOOO weird was that an aussie friend of mine who DOES get pubes waxed off says she makes her HUBBY get his waxed off too. Her thoery was if he wants me to then he has to too. and he DOES!!!

Very bizarre ..but good on her!

mrsravelstein · 25/05/2011 14:22

i don't think my 94 year old grandma watched much porn, and she shaved her legs

SybilBeddows · 25/05/2011 14:22

Shaving/depilation is much weirder than not doing.

but I am quite used to people shaving so it doesn't bother me, they can do it if they want.

BooyHoo · 25/05/2011 14:23

OP 'disappeared' again. hmmm.

Primalscream · 25/05/2011 14:23

MMF - I don't think women should shave anywhere apart from their legs and underarms - obviously some women have more hair than others and may wish to shave the bikini area for confidence reasons - I don't really care what women do, but will admit to judging women with hairy armpits - I'm afraid my thoughts veer towards 'lazy' and firmly arrive at 'ugh' - I know that's wrong but I can't help it.
I also do not think this is a feminist issue - I know a very radical feminist who shaves her legs. It's individual choice.

Ooopsadaisy · 25/05/2011 14:23

Porn??

It's nothing to do with porn.

I just prefer not to have what Amy on TOWIE refers to as "a hairy growler". Grin

luvvinlife · 25/05/2011 14:26

Exactly ooopsadaisy, and does that mean you are sexist or conformist ?

OP posts:
SybilBeddows · 25/05/2011 14:26

PrimalScream - it can be individual choice and a feminist issue.

The fact that there is more pressure on women than men to do time-consuming and sometimes painful beauty practices is indeed a feminist issue and the fact that some feminists still do them does not change that Smile

MooMooFarm · 25/05/2011 14:26

"Amy on TOWIE"?? Ooops you're a brave woman - I would much rather admit to having a hairy mary than watching that Grin

Primalscream · 25/05/2011 14:27

Sorry - I'm not sure whether your 'PS' was for my attention or you were post scripting - I've answered you anyway - ( lucky you !)

Ooopsadaisy · 25/05/2011 14:27

I have a friend who spends time/money having her nails done every two weeks.

I would never do this but I can see she looks askance at my skanky claws and thinks Hmm.

Same with extensive hairdressing (head-hair) routines. Not for me. I don't even own a hairdryer.

It's just personal grooming choices isn't it? Some do, some don't.

Primalscream · 25/05/2011 14:28

Sure - it can be a feminist issue - you're right.

BooyHoo · 25/05/2011 14:29

still not answering questions OP?

mrsravelstein · 25/05/2011 14:30

The fact that there is more pressure on women than men to do time-consuming and sometimes painful beauty practices is indeed a feminist issue

i genuinely don't understand this. how is there any pressure? yes i agree there is a general perception in our society that women will undertake some or all of these practices (depilation, hair styling, make up etc), but so what? many many women do opt out of these - they're not being stopped by military police and dragged off to beauty salons are they? they're not being refused access to Topshop by burly bouncers? or sent home from work until they shave their legs? in what way are they being pressured?

BooyHoo · 25/05/2011 14:32

mrsravelstein men aren't being dragged off and being forced to have penis extensions but many men still feel inadequate about their penis size.
