I am not trying to be smug, but I would never intentionallytake my kids to a fast food place (like McDonald's, for example). We have eaten there a few times when it was a last resort, but I honestly think it is the worst food you can eat, even if it's only in moderation. I keep hearing casual comments from friends about going out as a family for an evening meal to McDonald's , and I just scratch my head; if I want a meal out, there are plenty of places we can go as a family that isn't going to cost a fortune, and where we can eat proper food. Am I wrong to feel this way?? I'm probably being all judgey pants about it, but I just don't get it....

Here, I'll get my own Biscuit.

just stop being a knob and admit that some things are better eaten with your hands. burgers are one of them. Biscuit is another

bronze age was not the start of time you fool!! fingers are older so neh!

chicletteeth · 24/05/2011 22:42

Yeh BoohyHoo

Ner ner Nijinsky you donut (see, American spelling; done to wind you up, like hamburgers)

thisisyesterday · 24/05/2011 22:42

plus in the Bronze age all they had was knives (cutlery mainly applying to knives and cutting implements, flatware referring to spoons/forks etc)

these knives were used for killing/opening/preparing food, rather than eating it.

spoons were much later.

i wonder how they ate before that? fucking savages

PiaThreeTimes · 24/05/2011 22:53

You're welcome, chicletteeth.

Thiyesterday, before that they used sharp pieces of flint, speared pieces of fruit that they'd carefully peeled then sliced, then they'd present a piece to their mouths then push it into their mouth with their thumb.
(Which, incidentally IS using fingers, and defeats the point of putting it on the knife in the first place.)

thisisyesterday · 24/05/2011 23:40

vmcd, that has actually made me laugh out loud so much.

ahhh glad i am alone in the house right now lol

razzlebathbone · 25/05/2011 01:15

Yeah, what's the point of going to all that hygienic trouble of peeling and spearing the apple only to fuck it all up at the last hurdle and TOUCH IT WITH YOUR DIRTY MINGING THUMB. Urgh. Gross. Are you sure your thumbs are even opposable with that kind of behaviour?!

It's a slippery slope Nijinsky; you'll be slipping a Wimpy Bender between your toes next.

Morloth · 25/05/2011 04:08

Excellent thread.

I am a bit of a food snob and spend a couple of hours a day working out, so need to eat well to recover/build.

And every now and again only a cheeseburger will do.

I actually prefer my apples sliced but surely one of the most useful things about apples is that they are neatly packaged, easy to eat little balls of goodness that require no preparation before being munched.

Oblomov · 25/05/2011 07:06

Nijinsky, how come I haven't found you before ?
How long have you been on MN ?
Coz I tell ya, you've been brightening my life for the last 5 or so threads I've been on.
You really take the apple biscuit.
On every thread I've seen you on, atleast one person accuses you of OCD.Does your OCD just relate to food only, or does it cross across to other areas. Becasue if it crosses over to other areas, could you let me know what areas those are, so that I could look out for those threads too, and enjoy those little gems lettuces.
Can't wait to find out.

Hullygully · 25/05/2011 09:01

Has anyone told India how disgusting it is?

TanteRose · 25/05/2011 09:07

oh and anyone who goes to very high class sushi restaurants - you are supposed to eat sushi with your hands...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/05/2011 09:13

There's a new Wimpy near me, reasonable prices, excellent service by polite staff, food cooked to order on nice clean plates, lovely.

SarfEasticated · 25/05/2011 09:19

I agree too - sorry - I won't judge any of you if you want to go, but wouldn't go there myself. I guess my problem is that even at 99p a burger they are still making a profit, which makes we wonder how much the raw ingredients cost, and how good quality they are. I don't eat food that I don't think will do me some good.

LadyOfTheManor · 25/05/2011 09:27

I like to make burgers from home and eat them, on rare occasions.

We don't buy chips (oven or fry ones) and we don't own a chip pan, so it results in me sometimes making wedges and oven cooking them.

I love to eat with my fingers, and in North Africa where I originally come from, it's completely normal.

But on the note of health-you can't boycott Macdonalds for health reasons and then eat a large chicken korma...it doesn't quite work like that.

Still once in a while doesn't kill anyone.

Hullygully · 25/05/2011 09:28

I have worked in a hamburger "restaurant," btw.

You don't want to eat in them. Trust me.

LadyOfTheManor · 25/05/2011 09:32

I live in the sticks and they opened the first Macdonalds only a few years ago (about 4 miles from my house).

It was closed down after a random health inspection found 2 of the men cooking had masturbated in the mayonnaise that they were putting on burgers.

You get more for your 99pence that you bargained for, clearly.

Hullygully · 25/05/2011 09:35

The tales I could tell...

LadyOfTheManor · 25/05/2011 09:36

Oh, do tell! I don't eat there, it's fine!

NoobytheWaspSlayer · 25/05/2011 09:40

Toast! Nijinksy how do you use cutlery to eat toast? What if it has jam? Is peanut butter too plebian?

thisisyesterday · 25/05/2011 09:41

nothing wrong with a bit of extra protein

thisisyesterday · 25/05/2011 09:42

and satsumas Nijinsky... how do you eat a satsuma?

do you have a special instrument to peel the skin off? or do you use a knife and fork?
