I am not trying to be smug, but I would never intentionallytake my kids to a fast food place (like McDonald's, for example). We have eaten there a few times when it was a last resort, but I honestly think it is the worst food you can eat, even if it's only in moderation. I keep hearing casual comments from friends about going out as a family for an evening meal to McDonald's , and I just scratch my head; if I want a meal out, there are plenty of places we can go as a family that isn't going to cost a fortune, and where we can eat proper food. Am I wrong to feel this way?? I'm probably being all judgey pants about it, but I just don't get it....

Here, I'll get my own Biscuit.

Why are you asking people if you're wrong not to like a certain food? Confused

In that case, everyone's wrong because no-one likes absolutely everything.

suzikettles · 24/05/2011 16:26

I am far more suspicious of the quality of 2 for £10 at the pub tbh.

QueenStromba · 24/05/2011 16:26

Euphemia: Burger King is far superior to McDonalds.

Insomnia11 · 24/05/2011 16:28

Depends what you mean by fast food. My stir fries are full of vegetables and lean protein and definitely not rubbish. I've had some lovely healthy street food. And also eaten here www.leonrestaurants.co.uk/menu/ though my local one has gone now :(

McDs is like Pringles, nasty but I just...do go there every now and then. No more than a few times a year. If there wasn't one just up the road I wouldn't seek it out though. I do prefer a Whopper with Cheese anyway. Or a Dominos Vegetarian Supreme. Or a chicken kebab with crunchy salad and lashings of chilli sauce.

KatieScarlett2833 · 24/05/2011 16:28

nijinsky Shock I go to drive thru (see what I did there?) and take my hoplessly-wrong-ever-time order home to eat at a table, with cutlery and condiments, eating in the car, I don't don't think so.

whatsallthehullaballoo · 24/05/2011 16:31

What is so bad about maccy d now?? They are 100% beef/ chicken breast etc. Fries are fatty but after all they are only chips. Once a fortnight/ week isn't going to kill anyone or cause obesity. Everything moderation??

usualsuspect · 24/05/2011 16:31

When would you ever eat a burger with a knife and fork?

ilovedora27 · 24/05/2011 16:32

njinsky - Mcdonalds has never made me fat tbh. I achieved my (very) slim physique on a diet of maccys ds and strongbow Grin

KatieScarlett2833 · 24/05/2011 16:32

The fries, dear, the fries....salty ketchupy hands? I think not. Also prefer my chocolate milkshake out of a glass.

niceguy2 · 24/05/2011 16:32

...but I would never intentionallytake my kids to a fast food place

Whilst we're at it, how do you "accidentally" take your kids into a fast food place.

"Come along Tarquin, do hurry, we're late for our appointment at the new Michelin star restaurant....Wait, crap it's Maccy D's! Oh bother, give me a Big Mac please!"

thisisyesterday · 24/05/2011 16:33

if you eat a burger with a knife and fork then would you eat a sandwich with cutlery too?
if not why not?

some food is designed to be eaten with hands

LadyOfTheManor · 24/05/2011 16:34

I'm with the OP. While I don't scratch my head per se, I do think "why the bloody hell do you want to eat there?".

Have never taken my child there, and will avoid it for as long as possible. I realise there isn't a law forcing me to eat the food-hence I don't.

Do pop into Tescos for a wrap or some fruit if caught out without a meal and need to be nippy.

usualsuspect · 24/05/2011 16:36

ilovedora27 · 24/05/2011 16:37

KatieScarlett2833 · 24/05/2011 16:37

RobF · 24/05/2011 16:38

Why not take your kids to a Wimpy? They at least have plates and cutlery.

usualsuspect · 24/05/2011 16:40

I'm not bothered about the lack of plates or cutlery ..I've never seen anyone eat a burger with a knife and fork

we eat fish and chips out of the paper too Shock

robF Wimpy? Is it really 1982? That was the last time I saw a Wimpy...

I loved their knickerbocker glorys,

ilovedora27 · 24/05/2011 16:42

cause wimpy is horrible hence why they are all closing down and no one ever goes in them. Also who cares about knives and forks all the time. Mcdonalds is exceptionally popular and will never die out.

Ormirian · 24/05/2011 16:43

Hare is very fast but I don't think it's rubbish. Jugged it's absolutely delicious in fact and probably full of iron and jolly good stuff like that.

Mind you it's not fast when you eat it.

I sort of get what you mean. I love McDonalds. I am aware that it is shite and I take DD very rarely. When we do go, I am a great big fat hypocrite because I get her fishfingers, fruit and milk while I scoff a big bugger with cheese and chips and try not to let her see.

Having said that, no, it isn't somewhere I would go for an evening meal as such. It's a shopping and knackered lunch or motorway fuel stop. But up to everyone else what they do.

I am desperate to go to Wimpy again though :)
