to have named my baby Hermione?

I think it is a very pretty name, and I am a dork like the character association with it from the books, a strong clever female that my DD can read about. Even though it is a classical name it feels more modern and I assumed because of the films at least would be pronoucable to most people.

However, since my baby was born I have had one person manage to say what a pretty name and not act like I had told them my beutiful baby girl was actually called Shit Head or Arse Face.

I mean no one can pronounce it, a few people manage to choke out "how interesting" or "oh" . One woman even turned to her husband, stopped a second and then said "thats a 'special' name" the way you might say "thats a 'special' picture, what is it?" to a child.

One woman who had a baby called TyShawn had the nerve to look horrified.

Thew few people who seem to recognise the name seem horrified by the fact that Hermione is a character name. It was a name long before the books and people forget Wendy was a made up name for Peter Pan. No one soley links the two together anymore do they?

SO AIBU should have named her Evie, or Lily? Will she hate me for years to come?

bumper, yes, you do know me. I didn't know you were an HP fan although your dd2 does share a name with an hp7 character :)

Hermione is a gorgeous name. OP I'm very flattered that you named yourself after my thread :)

Oh yes galois, I'm a 'troubled sleeper' (must be where dd2 gets it from) and I listen to HP on my iPod to get to sleep. I know it so well that it is soothing and relaxing and distracts me from thinking too much. Except when they get towards the end and they start getting a bit frantic. That distracts me too much so only tend to listen to the first 3/4! True about dd2's name. She wasn't named after that though. Although dd1's name comes from some terrible high school trash I used to read Blush

Hermione is a lovely name.

If I had a girl (which I won't now) I wanted her to be Elinor or Isabella. There are probbaly loads of Isabellas around now thanks to twilight.

I love the name.

I remember when No.1 Son, a brilliant reader, read his first Harry Potter book. He read Hermione as "Hermy-one" and to this day we take the michael out of him. Grin Grin

It's a beautiful name, it's on my list for my impending child but I don't think it'll happen due to the strong association with HP. Wish I was brave enough to do it though!
