Well am I.

If HE or any of his legal advisors are reading this - pass on a message.

"If you'd kept schtum it would all be blowing well over by now, instead you've reignited it and people will be discussing it for longer. Go out - buy your wife a massive "sorry I was a prat" present and move on with your life".

Oh and employ someone with some common sense to ADVISE you in future - not some rich lawyers who will now be richer as a result of this fruitless action.

Amy dying to see if Twitter deliver up what's demanded in the 7 days they have. Suspect their lawyers might be saying "this is America, they are in the UK - tell em to go take a hike".

I'm sure I've read today (probably on here Blush ) that the reason lawyers are asking for specific twitter account details is because they believe that it is a newspaper that is responsible for all the leaks, masquerading as a twitterer (tweeter?), in the hope that once it's all over the web, the injunction will have to be lifted. Does that mean that the lawyers are unlikely therefore to go for Joe Bloggs, but are after the big guys?

FriedSpamButty · 21/05/2011 22:38

What a cock he is - whoever he is.

According to news reports (Daily Mail so could be shite) he's told his wife. What woman in her right mind would sanction her husband throwing away thousands of pounds away in such a futile exercise? Especially when such action only confirms the info on Twitter.

I congratulate his lawyer though who has convinced him that they can do better than the American government in getting Twitter to release user information. Nice one! Good luck with that anonymous footballer!

RedbinD · 21/05/2011 22:41

A Daily Mail columnist wrote an interesting bit about Ryan Giggs today. He's obviously happily married and couldn't possibly be the footballer under discussion.

edam · 21/05/2011 22:46

Scary thing about super-injunctions is that they have been used to hide real wrongdoing, by companies, not just kiss and tell. Trafigura got a super-injunction to prevent anyone reporting that they'd dumped toxic waste in Ivory Coast, poisoning lots of locals. Barclays have apparently got a super-injunction (don't know what that's about). And Fred Goodwin got a super-injunction that prevented anyone describing him as a banker, FFS - the man who stole £40bn from taxpayers!

The law really is an ass. And it's outrageous that we now have judges who are so over-mighty they are attempting to stop MPs and peers debating whatever they like in parliament. That's unconstitutional - parliamentary privilege means an MP or a peer cannot be sued or prosecuted over comments made on the floor of the House or during the course of parliamentary business. That has been the case for hundreds of years but now jumped up little judges think they can take away the citizen's right to hear what was said in parliament. It's appalling.

Here's hoping Twitter, as a US site, will tell the English judge to go fuck himself. The American constitution protects freedom of speech, so I do hope they refuse to hand over records identifying tweeters. The Guardian says today that if the footballer launches an action in the US courts, his name will have to be disclosed there. So if Twitter says 'no', he's stuffed. And quite right too.

FriedSpamButty · 21/05/2011 23:00

I think Twitter will say fuck off, you've not no chance Boyo NO. They have been saying NO to the USA Government for months in relation to the Wikileaks site and so far the USA Government has been able to do feck all due to the constitution and free speech.

Compared to the USA Government and the issues with Wikileaks I can't see how a UK footballer who is worried about his mistress outing him stands a greater chance in getting Twitter to released any info. At all. Ever. Dream on. You Loser!

clam · 21/05/2011 23:51

RebdBin, I saw that too, and posted a link to it this morning. Then I wimped out and got it withdrawn!

pinkstarlight · 21/05/2011 23:59

its quite funny especially as by now most people know who it is because its all over the internet and not just twitter,if its the wrong person why hasnt the named person given a statement to say it wasnt him.whats going to be his next move to try and gag the whole internet what a plonker.

SherlockHolmes · 22/05/2011 00:02

I think he's doing exactly the right thing, in a legal sense. The law has banned the media from exposing him, and therefore there should be some form of control over websites too. Whatever you may think of him (whoever he might be) it makes sense to try to sue Twitter as there has to be some kind of control over what goes on online. Remember GF on here anyone??

SherlockHolmes · 22/05/2011 00:04

I should add that I don't agree with super-injunctions because most of what people try to hide IS in the public interest. However, affairs of minor celebrities doesn't count as public interest as far as I'm concerned.

textpest · 22/05/2011 00:09

He's a tool who cheated on his wife, but this is hardly NEWS. It only concerns him, his wife and their family. It is really sad for all concerned without every Tom, Dick and Harry raking over it in the papers eveyday.

As someone who had a partner who cheated the humiliation was almost as bad as the betrayal of him "playing away"

duckdodgers · 22/05/2011 00:11

Is this the lying pigg or is this another shagging footballer?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1389562/TV-star-face-jail-tweets.html

duckdodgers · 22/05/2011 00:18

Just seen the headlines on tomorrows papers on Sky news and big Grin at The People - a story about "Imogens message to prem lover"........check out the giant headline - MAN UP...and admit it. Grin

edam · 22/05/2011 00:22

Textpest - it concerns the person he shagged, too. I can't see why she should be prevented from talking about her own life and her own experiences. That's the risk Mr Footballer took when he decided to shag around. Obviously regrets it now - not the shagging but being found out. But tough shit, should have thought about that before, not afterwards.

And Sherlock, the GF v. Mumsnet case is an example of the law being an ass when it comes to websites. GF got her knickers in a twist because having paraded herself in public and made a load of money out of pretending to be an expert, some parents said they disagreed with her methods, and even dared to poke fun at her. Our stupid legal system let her make money out of pretending to be upset by comments that were clearly not serious - while actually I'm sure what she really hated were the serious comments about the harm of her methods (in her first book, later editions were radically revised to take out serious errors and an appalling case study).

edam · 22/05/2011 00:34

Oh, and it's outrageous that Mr Shagtastic was able to accuse Imogen Thomas of attempting to blackmail him, without having to offer any proof at all.

hairfullofsnakes · 22/05/2011 07:23

I agree it is outrageous that he has been able to make out Imogen is a blackmailer - he has lost all his credibility as a person and as a footballer - what a complete and utter thick prick shit.

hairfullofsnakes · 22/05/2011 07:24

Oh and I wonder if they are singing it in the terrace at matches?! Or will he try and sue anyone who does that too?!

Georgimama · 22/05/2011 07:36

The legal advice he is getting must be reminiscent of when Blackadder went to see the Wise Woman about his little problem falling in love with his manservant "Bob":

alistron1 · 22/05/2011 07:52

He's an idiot. I'm not interested in football, or celeb gossip and if the story had 'come out' naturally as it were it wouldn't have pinged my radar. However this carry on of his, trying to control the truth by throwing his cash around, has fascinated me.

Georgimama · 22/05/2011 07:56

Apparently the lady involved is now suing him over the claims that she intended to blackmail him.

NormanTebbit · 22/05/2011 08:43

Social media can be such a source for good - look at what happened in Egypt, people were able to talk freely, things changed.

porcamiseria · 22/05/2011 08:53

agree with whoatemysnickers

dawntigga · 22/05/2011 08:59

Bugger off I'm not Imogen!

I have however done some work for the footballer (through the business I use to run) and worked along side the chief (same reason).

Personally I DO NOT CARE who is sleeping with whom, I DO care that the only people actually being emotionally hurt in this whole sorry mess are the wife of the footballer, his children and the person he had the affiar with. I do not codone Imogen whatsherface having an affair but she has had the shitty end of this particular stick (so has his wife but for other reasons). It is yet another way of making out the woman as the sole reason for the wrong doing - this is a line that can be traced back for hundreds of years and I'm sick of it. ATM Imogen has no way of defending herself in the press and that is awful.

As for public interest, this man has set himself up as a hero to young boys through both his charity work and football contributions. You don't get the title Poster Boy or an OBE for no reason. As such, he is a role model so, yes, there is public interest in him 'playing away'. A phrase which I hate as it trivialises what is a heartbreaking situation.

That'sAllYou'reGettingTiggaxx

davidtennantsmistress · 22/05/2011 09:10

just read he's more bothered who outted him on twitter than protecting his identity now - seriously MAN UP!!! don't bloody blame someone else for your mistakes!

Greythorne · 22/05/2011 10:00

But who is the tv star / journo who is being threatened with being sued?

Looks like Piers Morgan from the DM pic but i could be wrong.
