To think that Ricky Gervais is nasty to his so called friend Karl Pilkington Re: An Idiot Abroard

I watched this with my dh and was at how nasty Ricky Gervais is to Karl , why on earth is he friends with him if he calls him a moron and other nasty things, Seems a bit of a bully if you ask me. I am sure that Ricky would not fair very well in the situations that he put Karl in, in those different Countries.

I'm not 100% certain but I think you might be taking it a little bit too seriously.

My dh said that Karl is like that in real life and that Ricky acts in that way to Karl

it's an act...they go back years. Very lucrative for both of them.

I've never been sure with Karl Pilkington how much of it is an act. I have a feeling Karl is actually smarter than he pretends to be and he acts dumb to provide a butt to Ricky Gervais's jokes, obviously being paid for it.

Its just tv and they are both making loads of money from this format.

Karl isn't stupid- some of the things he says are actually quite pertinent and hd does make some very funny observations (have you seen the one where went to Michu Picu? Thought I was going to burst a blood vessel in my eye I was laughing so hard)

I hate Ricky Gervais though. Whereas Karl says things that are maybe ignorant- you can tell he isn't trying to be nasty, he's just totally exasperated or frustrated. Ricky is just nasty for giggles.

I loved Karl on Comic Relief this year. Sooo funny. Sorry if link doesn't work properly.

I agree dinosar there are so many incidences on that programme where I was splitting my sides. Don't like Ricky Gervais though

Yes he's horrible, but the show just cracks me up. I love Karl.

Karl is apparently like that in real life which is why they thought the show would be a great idea. Obviously Karl Hams it up for the show and so does Ricky. If they didn't, it would be a bit of a non starter don't you think?

I agree, the bits with Ricky just piss me off.

Ricky's cartoon pisses me off. It looks nothing like him really. The other two look brilliant.

Complete one-joke series IMO. Never been too keen on RG but DH loves the programme and has (v mature) friendships of a similar nature wherein pretty much any insult is acceptable under the guise of "banter".

Who cares? Neither of them are funny.

Its just good ald banter. I think their RG relationship with Karl is very affectionate... I loved the podcasts they did. More so than An Idiot Abroad.

YABU. I find it really funny. If Karl doesn't want to do it, he doesn't have to. Besides, I bet he's made a small fortune that he otherwise would never have made if he hadn't met Gervais.

i love the programme, i think carl is such a watchable person, LOVE his views/things he says on things abroard too, fantastic programme, hope they do another

YABU - it's scripted. It's an act. I trust Karl has made a tidy sum from it.

Not scripted and all real. They are good mates and that's what they do. I have a friend I wind up like mad. They can just do it on a grander stage

But the show is funny because of Karl not because of Gervais. He adds nothing to it at all. There would be nothing missing if he wasn't in it at all.

The Machu Pichu bit is scripted 100%. Karl didn't have a strop and refuse to go in. They were denied permission to film there. Even the James Bond crew were refused permission to film some of Quantum of Solace there.

It's nigh on impossible to take a film crew to Machu Pichu. They had to make something up.
