Ok I realise that alcohol os alcohol and it shouldn't make you feel different but I feel very different after drinking champagne as opposed to red wine or even beer, AIBU to think it make a differnce?

I agree - there are definite differences.

MerylStrop · 20/05/2011 21:44

Deffo
It is well documented that for instance Champagne makes you happy cheery drunk, and Stella makes you extra fighty

AgentZigzag · 20/05/2011 21:44

The 'hit' you get from a shot of spirits is very different to beer.

And absinthe is supposed to make you go a bit weirdy, but I've never noticed it does, not that I've drunk it that much of it Grin

What are you partaking of tonight?

pollypopsocks · 20/05/2011 21:46

Champagne! It was £29 reduced to £8 so I stocked up, hic!

I get very loud and up for a dance on cider but on spirits I just sit and talk, very dull!!

SindyTellsMe · 20/05/2011 21:48

Absolutely. Wine makes me sleepy/slurry. Beer makes me chirpy. Whiskey makes me fume.

Have recently discovered that a little bit of Tequila perks me right up. If I've had 2 tequilas and I'm still not enjoying myself, it's time to go home.

YANBU! Spirits make me drunk but in a controllable way, champagne makes me drunk in a very silly way, and much much quicker than spirits. Pimms makes me want to fall asleep!

shakey1500 · 20/05/2011 21:50

Think it does yes. Eeee when I think of how many bottles of beer I used to sink of a weekend, my liver would quiver now. Tis weird though, when I'm really looking forward to an event and drink the same tipple, I seem to get drunk and unsteady after about two. An ad hoc session though, I can have considerably more and not be affected.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 20/05/2011 21:51

Yanbu - I have often thought this.

I know full well I am a miserable narky fuck when drinking Jack Daniels.
Anything else I am stupidly giddy.

DoMeDon · 20/05/2011 21:52

YANBU - also mixing drinks is baaaaaaddd

ManicAnnie · 20/05/2011 21:54

YANBU.

Champagne makes me giddy and happy...but one glass two many and I feel crazy and sick.

White wine makes me devilish.

Red wine gives me a woozy, mellow pissed feeling.

Spirits in general aren't good for me - I get bit OTT and loud, and get really pissed but think I am sober. Brandy in particular sends me doolally.

ManicAnnie · 20/05/2011 21:54

too many

MillyR · 20/05/2011 21:54

I try to only drink rum because of the lack of hangover.

squeakytoy · 20/05/2011 21:55

I completely agree.

I can drink bacardi or pernod all night long with no problems... whereas a couple of glasses of wine will give me a headache, and bourbon makes me hammered..

Tambern · 20/05/2011 21:56

Where'd you get that deal polly?

And it's definitely different. Beer makes me sleepy (not that I drink much of it) champagne and wine makes me giggly and happy, and spirits don't do much at all.

pollypopsocks · 20/05/2011 21:57

I go dozy, mellow & content on red wine, champagne makes me silly and spitits make me go a bit wild! Beer just makes me feel sick and fart loads Grin

pollypopsocks · 20/05/2011 21:58

In my pub days DoMeDon, everyone knew a snakebite and black (lager/cider/blackcurrent) would do you right in Grin

Only a select rich few could afford them.

Ninxy · 20/05/2011 22:01

Vodka used to be my poison but since I've got older I just can't handle it any more. Last time I had some I blacked out in terms of recollection but was still walking and talking. Very scary.

Before DC I once rang the police to apologise for something Blush and they were very nice and confirmed that in their experience women usually cause situations after having partaken in spirits.

MillyR · 20/05/2011 22:02

It is true that alcohol is alcohol, but none of us are downing pure ethanol, so there are different impurities in different alchoholic drinks.

DoMeDon · 20/05/2011 22:04

Snakebite - those were the days [nostalgic]
