Ok I realise that alcohol os alcohol and it shouldn't make you feel different but I feel very different after drinking champagne as opposed to red wine or even beer, AIBU to think it make a differnce?

I think that is true, but there is also more stuff going on. Cheap drinks have some meths in them, and vaarious toxins -arsenic for example, so it isn't just pure alcohol having an impact on how you feel physically feel.

I have also heard that about agression and other cultures.

That's def true - whiskey makes me giggly and very chatty, wine sends me to sleep.

Absinthe gives me really weird dreams.

BendyBob · 20/05/2011 22:19

Gin's supposed to make you feel depressed. I can't say it does that for me (and I had to drink a LOT of it over the years to conduct that study...not that I wanted to of courseWink)

AgentZigzag · 20/05/2011 22:21

My friend set a disgusting, shameful record downing 7 pernod and blacks in a row.

Oh how we sat and judged her to be totally awesome for still being able to get to the bar and order Grin

Gin makes you sin

Whiskey makes you frisky

Rum Makes you glum

Beer before wine and everythings fine
Wine after beer and everthings queer

I can't tell you my reaction to getting drunk in single episodes on one type of alcohol.

I have only been drunk once. And nearly died. I can tell you exactly what I drank.

Blood Wine
2/5 pint glass of red wine, same amount of vodka, top up with blackcurrant. Times 3. topped up(unknown to me after I had drank some) with brandy
plus 2 quadruple jack daniels.

Order of drinking was blood wine, JD, Blood wine, JD, blood wine.

In just under 45 minutes. I was still walking around after the second JD. I fell to the floor after the last BW and spent 15 minutes trying to stand up again before passing out. and we were on a ferry between UK and Ireland. There were sober nurses with the group I was with, and they looked after me. Apparently they said I was measuring a 4 to 5 on the Glasgow Coma Scale. I kept moaning my now DH's name, which is how they knew I was still alive.

Later, we worked out I had drunk about 45 units of alcohol. I am so not proud of that.

And even now I can only manage maybe 2 small glasses of white wine with a meal or a couple of archers and lemonades through an evening out.

Gin has that reputation for historical cultural reasons, not anything thats actually in it. Its the whole cheapest drink in Victorian times/Mothers ruin thing.

spiderslegs · 20/05/2011 23:26

News flash - alcohol makes you pissed

Morloth · 20/05/2011 23:28

Wine makes me bubble and chatty, tequila makes me horny and want to dance on tables.

Tambern · 21/05/2011 01:54

Thanks for the link polly!

Also the other impurities probably play a part. Supposedly the darker the drink the worse your hangover will be the next morning

Goodynuff · 21/05/2011 02:50

I find (not that I have studied it!) that it has just as much to do with how much you have had to eat, if you have had carbs, how much sleep you have had, what type of friends are with you,and how many goodlooking fellas are near by Grin
