When I had my wisdoms out ( 2 stitched 2 open) they adviced me not to rinse for 24 hours because you can get a dry socket where the gelatinous blood clot comes out.Could it be that?
I found sterile gauze soaked in warm very salty water to bite on really relieved it, but I don't know if I would use if there's infection. it might push the pus further in.Maybe just srtong warm salt water( Don't swallow it bleurg!)

kelly2525 · 20/05/2011 00:15

Have you got any ibuprofen? It sounds like it could be a dry socket, if you didnt bleed when they removed the tooth, they shouldve given you antibiotics, im speaking from painful experience.

If its really really bad, I`d go off to A&E

IdRatherBeInBed · 20/05/2011 00:20

I did have some blood when they removed it but after she took the dressing/gauze out of my mouth after ten minutes, it had stopped bleeding. It hasnt bled since, just very sore, it looks like i have food stuck in there (white/off white in colour) i was had a bite of DS' chicken burger yesterday night as i was been greedy starving - ate on the other side and just thought that it maybe was bread. :| but now im not so sure, it moves if i rinse my mouth out (gross i know).

no thats not food...thats the way mine went too...

sharbie · 20/05/2011 00:24

poor you sounds awful - can you try and brush it out a bit?might help

sharbie · 20/05/2011 00:24

x post

fran28 · 20/05/2011 00:24

have u been rinsing ur mouth out with salt water?

VforViennetta · 20/05/2011 00:26

It might be dry socket, when I had mine out I was advised to bite on the gauze for ages to aid clotting, plus not suck on anything or cause a vacuum in my mouth for 24 hours. Or it could be infected, either way it should be much less painful now, not more.

Poor poor you, I know it's only a few hours until your appointment but if it gets too much go to A&E/OOH at least they will be able to give you adequate painkillers (being optimistic there).

MumblingRagDoll · 20/05/2011 00:27

\It really shouldn't be that sore...I had mine out and it was a bit sore...but yours sounds bad! See the pharmasist tomorrow or call the dentist! Sad

IdRatherBeInBed · 20/05/2011 00:27

If it is very bad in the morning i will go to A&E, Dentist is full and they had to squeeze me in instead. otherwise it would have been monday.

IdRatherBeInBed · 20/05/2011 00:28

yes have been rinsing with salt water too (boiled warm water)

sharbie · 20/05/2011 00:33

top or bottom tooth?

i had top one out and don't recall any trouble after.

Sqee · 20/05/2011 00:46

If you have any dissolvable pain killers, put 2 in a glass with warm water and dip a cotton ball in. Put it where it hurts. It worked for me!

Sqee · 20/05/2011 00:49

^ but make an appointment asap, sounds normal if you've had stitches but better safe than sorry

IdRatherBeInBed · 20/05/2011 18:40

I went to dentist today, he has put a brown medicated gel inside the hole to stop the pain, and to also help it heal. I have to go back again on monday for a second lot of the stuff putting in it - but OMG this is worse than child birth!

OP posts:
breatheslowly · 20/05/2011 20:24

That white stuff sounds like pus from an infection - I would want antibiotic tablets as well as brown medicated stuff if it is infected as the tablets work from the inside out IYKWIM. Sorry you're in so much pain.

IdRatherBeInBed · 20/05/2011 21:55

yes i also got some amoxicillin to take.
