If it is worse than childbirth I'd definitely go to A&E - they can dispense harder painkillers and it might be you have an infection that has taken hold - I wouldn't leave it til Monday if it is that bad now.

Iv got some more painkillers, havent been to a&e but if it is still bad tomorrow like it is today il go back. it looks like it is closing up.

Sounds like an infection, not normal pain after having a wisdom tooth out. Hopefully the anitbiotics will kick in soon.

I am sympathising with you and your pain. I have had one of mine out today (and had two tooth implants in as well (well the posts- long story)). I am in discomfot as I've had stitches and other things but I'm not in agony. The only time I have been in agony has been when I have had infection.

Toothache is horrific, but antibiotics tend to work well. Good luck and hope you get some sleep.

Definitely sounds like an infection or dry socket. If you ring NHS direct they will put you in touch with OOH dentist. They can pack the socket for you to reduce the pain. It takes a horrifically long time to heal if you've pulled the clot out. I did a similar thing and was at the dentist every other day for a fortnight :(

I had all my wisdom teeth out at once (general anaesthetic, I'm a wimp) and I was in agony for a good few days afterwards, just due to the brute force they'd had to use to get the buggers out. (I'll take some convincing that the surgeon didn't have his knee on my chest as I was bruised all the way down my chest!)

I got soluble paracetamol which tastes hideous, but can help if you can hold it in your mouth for a good 10 seconds before you swallow it.

Hopefully it's nothing more serious than the bruising (your gum and jaw will be bruised too) I found ice cream (of the luxury variety Wink) a big help too

I had all mine out under GA too. Had a MacDonalds on the way home,a week off and never needed a painkiller! Guess I was lucky.

However, when I first qualified as a nurse, one of my fellow nurse housemates had one of hers out. When another chum came in that evening she found our friend in a right state. My friend said she had never seen anyone actually climbing the walls in pain! Turned out she had a dry socket-she went to emergency dentist and got pethidine!
It definitely sounds like that or infected. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in tonight.
Worse than child birth....grim.

It is definitely a dry socket, unfortunately the clot which normally covers the bone has broken down... it is very, very painful but it will pass, I promise. The pack that your dentist has put in is to stimulate your gum to cover it and you will probably need it to be repacked a couple of times but each one will be better.

You have really drawn the short straw, staggering your pain killers is a good idea. I hope that you start improving soon

Had a tooth removed in Jan after having an abscess for Christmas!! Was very very painful for a good few days afterwards even though I was expecting instant relief. Try a hot pack against the jaw, not boiling but nice and warm. Soft food only and NO HOT drinks just tepid.

Good luck.

Are you feeling any better?
