To get DD a new pushchair when she is 3 years old?

Inspired by the lady who wanted to know if buying a 4th pushchair for a 4 month old was silly.

DD turned three in March and still uses the pushchair for school runs...we leave it behind when we go to town sometimes but not aalways as she get tired still..the one we have is dirty and I have tried to clean it but it just won't come up nicely....DH says we should make do with what we have as it still works fine....but I think a rubby pushchir is like a grubby coat and is just not on.

I HAVE really tried to clean it.....but to no avail.

And if am not BU can anyone reccomend a decent lightweight pushchair that's comfy and is not pink.

thank you!

It depends on how far the school run is. I had kicked all my lot out of the buggy by 3 years old, but they were good walkers. I'm inclined to agree with your DH or just get shut of it all together.

5Foot5 · 19/05/2011 12:45

At 3 I can't imagine you will need one for much longer so if you really have to get another why not make do with second hand?

SoupDragon · 19/05/2011 12:46

I think you'd be nuts to buy another one TBH.

Ragwort · 19/05/2011 12:47

Madness to get a new one - how far is school run?

MumblingRagDoll · 19/05/2011 12:47

Oh poo to the lot of you!

3 is still small and I cannot drive....she can't possibly walk the distances we have to cover....the shopping alone covers 2 miles at least.

get a 20 quid one from asda

OvO · 19/05/2011 12:48

If you mean buy a cheapy £10 one then go for it if the grubby one bothers you so much. If you mean a fancy dear one then you are a bit bonkers! Grin

CatIsSleepy · 19/05/2011 12:48

well get one then Grin
why are you even asking?

MumblingRagDoll · 19/05/2011 12:48

The school run is 20 minutes there and 20 back but we often have to walk further...to the shops....and then go home. So all in all we cover more than 2 miles on those days.

I don't drive either but all my three were out of the buggy by that age. I think the more you pander to them, the longer it takes them to get used to it.

TimeWasting · 19/05/2011 12:49

You'll be really annoyed at the waste of money when the new purchase high wears off.

And perhaps she gets tired because she's not used to walking?

MumblingRagDoll · 19/05/2011 12:49

I want a nice one though! NOt a swish posh fancy one...just one with a nice print or something!

Cat..so that I can tell DH he is BU! Grin

DS does walks like that quite often.

What you need is a new baby.

MumblingRagDoll · 19/05/2011 12:50

Oh worra....how did you manage the shopping though? I have scoliosis....I hang the shopping on the pushchair....I cant hold the hand of a 3 year old and carry 2 or 3 heavy carrier bags too.

OP posts:
lifeinthemidlands · 19/05/2011 12:51

Surely everyone's pushchair is grubby by the time their child is three? Unless it's caked with dried food and excrement (which I'm sure it isn't) I'm sure no-one has given the state of your pushchair a passing thought

HumperdinkFangboner · 19/05/2011 12:51

Madness, mine were out of a pushchair by 3, but even if they weren't I wouldn't be buying a new one, she won't be in one for much longer anyway surely?

MumblingRagDoll · 19/05/2011 12:51

TimeWasting ...I KNOW! Grin I just got 2 cats instead! DH wont have more babies.

I don't drive either. 2 miles over a day isn't that long for a 3 year old, so yes, YABU. :P :P :P Is it having to carry bags instead of hooking them over buggy handles? I still miss a buggy for that, and my youngest lot are 12. Grin

RamblingRosa · 19/05/2011 12:52

If the buggy's broken then maybe but if it's just a question of it being a bit grubby then I wouldn't bother. Seems like a waste of money for something she's going to grow out of soon and that you don't actually need

KirstyJC · 19/05/2011 12:52

I think you're being daft - if it works well then it doesn't need changing...but then I have been known to wear the same jeans continually for over a week without washing them, so you might want to ignore my advice! I also have a 2.5yo and can't remember the last time he used the pushchair , but then we have to drive the school run so not the same as you.

Try freecycle - there is often some nice baby stuff on there. I also think I remember seing cheap ones in Argos/Mothercare - around £20 mark?

Mumwithadragontattoo · 19/05/2011 12:52

Can you get a cover for the grubby one? My DD is just 3 and very rarely in the buggy these days. I can understand you need something at the moment given you walk a lot but I think I'd just make do with the old one now (or buy something cheap).

TheVisitor · 19/05/2011 12:52

Aha, I see I'm right. I have a shopping trolley now. It's fab. Grin

TimeWasting · 19/05/2011 12:53

Ah well.

What you do need is a shopping trolley, I bought a new one when I started leaving the buggy at home. They come in all sorts of lovely patterns.

TheVisitor · 19/05/2011 12:53

Yes, they're not the remit of old ladies any more. Grin Mine's from Ikea and I can fit looooooads of stuff in it.

worraliberty · 19/05/2011 12:54

Oh worra....how did you manage the shopping though? I have scoliosis....I hang the shopping on the pushchair....I cant hold the hand of a 3 year old and carry 2 or 3 heavy carrier bags too

I did the heavy stuff online.

How will you manage when your child is 4 or 5 and you can't use a buggy at all? Perhaps you could get a trolley, they do some nice designs now...they're not all tartan anymore Grin
