To get DD a new pushchair when she is 3 years old?

Inspired by the lady who wanted to know if buying a 4th pushchair for a 4 month old was silly.

DD turned three in March and still uses the pushchair for school runs...we leave it behind when we go to town sometimes but not aalways as she get tired still..the one we have is dirty and I have tried to clean it but it just won't come up nicely....DH says we should make do with what we have as it still works fine....but I think a rubby pushchir is like a grubby coat and is just not on.

I HAVE really tried to clean it.....but to no avail.

And if am not BU can anyone reccomend a decent lightweight pushchair that's comfy and is not pink.

thank you!

Buy a cheap one, you can get nice ones for £20 in Argos, tesco etc. I bought one recently for my daughter just turned z3 and to big for her old buggy. I use it when she is unwell as I still have to take other kids to school. Also take it on days out. Not for everyday use but handy having it when I need it.

Ebay

manicbmc · 19/05/2011 20:22

My twins were out of the pushchair by 2 and a half (mainly because ds had figured out how to undo the straps and escape).

Get a shopping trolley and a wrist strap for your child.

maighdlin · 19/05/2011 20:44

well the OP is pleasant.

lucysnowe · 19/05/2011 20:51

YANBU, but get a cheapy one!

My DD is three but on walks is like a 1 1/2 year old.... very slowly, pointing out every single interesting thing along the way (a leaf!!!) and occasionally sitting down to examine them more closely. Or she goes a bit hyper and has a bad habit of running into the road when you least expect it Shock She has a scooter but is even slower! So I would be lost without my pushchair. I think people have to realise that ALL CHILDREN ARE DIFFERENT

(and before you ask yes, I am teaching her traffic safety)

HeadfirstForHalos · 19/05/2011 21:16

OP, I've changed my mind. It sounds like you are going to be using a buggy for a good while yet and also that you've had enough of the one you have now. It's your money, as another poster said, you should feel free to buy what you like :)

There is nothing wrong with a child being in a pushchair at this age. My 3 1/2 yo happily walks 3/4 miles a day, but by the afternoon he is shattered and needs the buggy for the school run. He often naps in it too. I'm not going to start dragging him crying and stumbling the mile there and mile back to please other parents that believe it's unacceptable Wink

MooMooFarm · 19/05/2011 21:18

Where are you OP? I have a nice one you can have! I keep meaning to put it on fleabay but can't be arsed Grin.

SmethwickBelle · 19/05/2011 21:19

Get a scooter. Or a cheap 15 quid umbrella fold one from Toys R Us or Argos.

pramsgalore4 · 19/05/2011 21:24

get a maclaren, i am the same as you, i would not push around a grubby pram, but as you can tell by my name i do like pushchairs, that is a long way to walk for little legs and sometimes it is easier to get them in the pushchair, maclarens seem to get a good price 2nd hand as well

doley · 19/05/2011 21:26

I don't think op is coming back ?

I wish she would ...

IHeartKingThistle · 19/05/2011 21:27

Just stepping in quickly to say I HATE my Silvercross Pop!

IHeartKingThistle · 19/05/2011 21:29

Couldn't give two hoots if it was a bit grubby though...Grin

Kids in the US get pushed around up to the age of 5...and people wonder why its the obesity capital of the world? Use your brains people- exercise is good for kids and adults get 'tired' far quicker than their little legs do.

fedupofnamechanging · 19/05/2011 21:47

I had a Silver Cross Pop and the clear plastic in the hood that you look through to see the baby split. I ended up with a baby jogger city mini, which is pricey for a years use, but is big enough for a 3 year old to sit comfortably and is really easy to push and fold.

doley · 19/05/2011 22:14

bimbo the kids in this town are no fatter than any I have known in the UK actually .

The US is massive ,I don't know why these stereo -types are perpetuated .

The 5 year olds take rides in the buggy sometimes ,they also play in the park and on their bikes where I live .

PumpkinSnatch · 19/05/2011 22:43

I stand corrected - the Silvercross Pop is clearly shit!

TimeWasting · 19/05/2011 23:20

Silvercross Pop has high handles for tall DHs to push it around, but the brakes are shite and mine is now knackered.

But as DS is now 3 I shan't be buying another one. Biscuit

"Kids in the US get pushed around up to the age of 5...and people wonder why its the obesity capital of the world?"

I think this may be making too many assumptions as so many other factors come into play here. In fact, I think being pushed around late may just mean you have the kind of parents who walk long distances instead of always taking the car. My DD2 was pushed around until 4 and a half and she is and has always been as skinny as a rake. She's 11 now and incredibly fit and healthy, and very slim indeed.

I think every child is different and just because one child can walk a long way young, doesn't mean another will. Some very judgey views on here from people who maybe don't have the benefit of older children - and the knowledge that gives you that these sorts of things are incredibly unimportant in the long run. Want a new buggy? Buy a new buggy.

doley · 20/05/2011 14:02

Totally agree music :)

My eldest is 13 this year ,used the buggy till 4 sometimes I can't see any adverse effects Wink

thaigreencurry · 20/05/2011 14:03

My mum bought me a buggy from ASDA for £25. Lightweight, reclines, shopping baket and a sun canopy.

Mandy2003 · 20/05/2011 17:18

There's another too big for a buggy thread running at the moment, this is my favourite from the linked blog:

Wow!

doley · 20/05/2011 17:32

wow Grin

yoshiLunk · 20/05/2011 19:51

OP my love, get yourself a nice attractive but not too expensive pushchair/ buggy - this thread is competitive parenting at its worst ffs.

The thing is at 3 some youngsters still need a nap don't they? some of us can't carry bags & bags of shopping for miles on end, can they?

Why the bloody hell not make your life a little easier?

My DS is nearly four - he loves to run walk everywhere, but sometimes he just gets tired, and to have a buggy where he can crash and I can get a quiet coffee hang me shoppin' bags is a god-send..

Jeez, you lot and your marathon running mountaineering toddlers ffs Grin

yoshiLunk · 20/05/2011 19:54

thaigreen if you are old enough to be logged onto mumsnet your mum should really not have bought you a new buggy to push you around in Hmm Grin

thaigreencurry · 20/05/2011 20:23

Grin yoshilunk took me a while to get it!
