To get DD a new pushchair when she is 3 years old?

Inspired by the lady who wanted to know if buying a 4th pushchair for a 4 month old was silly.

DD turned three in March and still uses the pushchair for school runs...we leave it behind when we go to town sometimes but not aalways as she get tired still..the one we have is dirty and I have tried to clean it but it just won't come up nicely....DH says we should make do with what we have as it still works fine....but I think a rubby pushchir is like a grubby coat and is just not on.

I HAVE really tried to clean it.....but to no avail.

And if am not BU can anyone reccomend a decent lightweight pushchair that's comfy and is not pink.

thank you!

maypole you still haven't got the hang of punctuation have you ?

TimeWasting · 19/05/2011 19:07

I'm not seeing why a trolley would be worse than carrying bags though.

And you seemed to imply that others were exaggerating their children's walking aptitude. I am not the only who read it that way.

MumblingRagDoll · 19/05/2011 19:08

I just want to say that I am shocked at how rudesome people have been here. Intimating I am lazy. I am fucking disabled. I am done with this site...it''s got some great people and some absolute bastards.

No loss

I think there is a lot of social pressure to get kids out of buggies. I felt it this winter when I had many battles with dd (now 3.2) who refused to walk even tiny distances. Then at our last chest appt at the hospital, the consultant told me that with her asthma and chest issues she was just too tired to walk and that I should let her use the pushchair as much as she liked Blush. In the last few days she has suddenly decided she wants to walk everywhere and managed a whole mile in one go yesterday, a major achievement for her. No doubt next winter though when her chest gets bad again we'll be back using the pushchair Sad. We walk a lot though and no matter what, getting a 3/4 year old to walk 3 or 4 miles in a day is a big ask.

OP, you know your child best, get a new buggy if you like - you can always sell it on, for a good price if it is not much used. She won't be in a pushchair when she's 12!

doley · 19/05/2011 19:10

ragdoll I order you to get a liner or a new buggy ~I would hate to think of you being in anymore discomfort :)

Seriously ,I have said as much throughout .

As you have a medical problem it totally makes sense ,especially in your situation .

OvO · 19/05/2011 19:11

Mumbling, at the risk of you combusting in sheer rage, have you tried a trolley? I have scoliosis (due to spin a bifida, and have many other problems because of this) and a trolley really does help. For now keep using the buggy but once your DD is older and wont use it then a trolley might be just the thing for you then.

fedupofnamechanging · 19/05/2011 19:11

Can't believe this is still going.

OP, buy another buggy. You want to, your child will benefit from being able to rest when she feels tired and you'll have somewhere to put the shopping. I don't think yabu at all. You could be using it on and off for a year and it will be handy for day trips etc. It is your money and just because some people would consider it a waste, that doesn't mean you would.

Fwiw, I hate dirty buggies and if i couldn't get mine clean to my satisfaction, then I wouldn't hesitate to get a new one. It doesn't matter what anyone else would do - if it makes you happy then buy it.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 19/05/2011 19:12

Bloody hell, op. How the fuck was anyone meant to know about your scoliocis (sp)?

OvO · 19/05/2011 19:14

TBF, she does mention it way back near the start of the thread.

TimeWasting · 19/05/2011 19:16

OP, I know what scoliosis is.

Is this about your childs ability to walk, or your need to have something to stash the shopping on?

If it's the latter then it's unreasonable to keep your daughter in a buggy. As she would presumably have to be in the buggy in order to successfully hang all that shopping off the back.
I can recommend Tesco online grocery shopping.

If you just wanted to talk about buying buggies you shouldn't have started a thread in AIBU about it.

doley · 19/05/2011 19:16

Yep,she did .

That is why it is very important to read the what the op says Wink

Not starting anything ...I always get picked on when I mention it though :)

Liliesandveuve · 19/05/2011 19:26

Bloody hell, why so much outrage at buggies, fgs.
The op knows her child and knows how far she can walk.
Fwiw, I had a similar dilemma, and I would have bought another one, if necessary,

and as for those people boasting how far their children can walk, well bully for you.

musicposy · 19/05/2011 19:29

Well, I bought DD2 a new buggy at 3. The old one was 2nd hand anyway and the wheels wore right down so there was no rubber on them. I wasn't going to be without a buggy.

She got good use out of the new buggy. She was tiny for her age and young too - she still had naps even when she turned 4. When she started school I used to take the buggy up to take her home in because it was about a mile walk and she was just too tired to do it. I didn't care two hoots what people thought. She's 11 now and doesn't seem to have suffered any dreadful effects due to my indulgent parenting!

So I'd say, if you want a new one, get it. Maybe take yours for a long trot in the mud over some very bumpy terrain, because that might ruin the wheels as it's so old Wink

diabolo · 19/05/2011 19:37

YABU - a 3 year old does NOT need a buggy.

Mine may be an unpopular opinion, but I think some parents use buggies as an "easy option" and I loathe seeing 3/4 and even 5 year olds in a buggy.

PumpkinSnatch · 19/05/2011 19:38

I wouldn't personally. DD who is 3 walks half an hour to nursery and the same back - sometimes more if we go to the park/town on the way back. It's good for her. She says she's tired sometimes but I just distract her with a game of eye spy or something and she's fine. If we had a pushchair she'd want to go in it all the time and miss out on the exercise.

doley · 19/05/2011 19:41

diabolo and if the Mother needs to use one for health reasons ?

easy options Hmm

You "loathe seeing them" ...too funny !

BadRoly · 19/05/2011 19:43

^puts a comforting arm around MRD and tries to drag her again to look at lightweight buggy porn...

usualsuspect · 19/05/2011 19:49

well mine all walked 20 miles a day at 2 Wink

PumpkinSnatch · 19/05/2011 19:50

Just noticed that the OP doesn't want opinions on whether her dc should be in a buggy just whether or not it should be a new one.
If the old one won't scrub up I'd definitely get a new one or a liner. I've had a Chicco London, an OBaby Atlas and a Mamu and they were all rubbish. I've heard good things about the Silvercross Pop from friends though.

IdRatherBeInBed · 19/05/2011 19:52

YABU a 3 year old does not need a pushchair.

Liliesandveuve · 19/05/2011 19:54

Oh Ffs, this is so annoying. Read the thread.
Op, don't blame you for disappearing, I would have done too.

usualsuspect · 19/05/2011 19:56

I was being sarky ...all mine were still in a buggy at 3

OP if you can afford it buy a new one

Liliesandveuve · 19/05/2011 20:00

Not you usualsuspect! The Smile was a giveaway.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 19/05/2011 20:06

Ah, indeed she did doley and OvO

OP I'm sorry Blush
