To wonder why people let themselves get fat?

I am frequently amazed at the number of women at 15/17/20 stone who suddenly realise how fat they are and want to do something about it.
Why do people let themselves get so fat? It's unhealthy, unsightly and very life limiting.
Why not just keep an eye on your weight and keep it nice and steady?

OP posts:
SoleSource · 05/12/2014 12:34

I am fat. I eat too much as I have not much social life at the moment and not many hours during the day to myself. My weight has gone up and down by 10 stones since 2010.

Now I feel better about myself I have realised that my weight is my responsibility and can do something about it. I overate because eating different foods equals different taste and my life was so dull it made me feel as if I had done something different other than watch TV and use the internet.

I am going to hire a treadmill and walk on that each day at different inclines, feed my body with the correct nutrients.

But I cannot walk about outside until I have lost weight because of judgey, close minded arseholes. Thanks for that OP.

Oh old thread..

kittentwo · 05/12/2014 12:58

Love eating love drinking hate doing anything in moderation. Regularly spend 4 months loosing 3 stone an abouy 2 years putting it back on quite happily.

fatlazymummy · 05/12/2014 13:05

Lol, I think this is the thread that actually inspired me to lose weight (among other things).
I know the op pissed a lot of people off (and I understand why perfectly) but it gave me a kick up the arse.

professornangnang · 05/12/2014 14:28

I wouldn't describe myself as fat - I'm a 12 mostly, sometimes a 14. I used to be 8 - 10 because I didn't really eat and just partied and went out. My lifestyle is much better now so I don't mind the extra weight. Obviously, I'd love to be a lucky person who was an 8 and could eat anything! I know a couple. People who are 20 stone must already feel depressed enough about it, so the last thing they need is others making them feel worse. I think that ultimately, once someone goes past a certain level of being overweight, it's probably quite hard to get motivated to lose it.

Omg,I have just read 26 pages to find out this thread is three flippin years old!!!

I'm sure you can apply to HQ for chocolate compensation in those circs...

Blueandwhitelover · 05/12/2014 16:03

Even though it is an old thread I am placemarking to read it later as I've just managed to pull myself together weight wise and am on the downward journey.

Shinyshoes2 · 05/12/2014 16:07

Oh do fuck off

Blueandwhitelover · 05/12/2014 16:08

and a Happy Xmas to you Shinyshoes!

IPokeBadgers · 05/12/2014 16:19

OP....Life happens....people [don't] cope in lots of different ways.

frumpet · 05/12/2014 16:51

As a fat woman , I can honestly say it is because after the birth of my third child I became depressed and drank far too much and ate as many carbohydrates as I could physically get my hands on , as a result I now weigh 16 and a half stone .
It is unhealthy , I'm not sure about life limiting , in that I still have to do all the stuff I did when I weighed 11 stones , life would be far easier if I could spend the day lounging on the sofa , watching Jeremy Kyle re-runs and inhaling chocolate , but work and family have a habit of getting in the way .
I will keep to the house unless it is dark in the future in case my folds of flab offend you OP Wink

ArsenicSoup · 05/12/2014 16:56

Blueandwhite you find immersing youself in fat-hatred helpful!? It would send me to the kettle chips....

frumpet · 05/12/2014 16:58

Doh ! just seen how old this is Xmas Blush

PeterGriffinsPenisBeaker · 05/12/2014 17:06

I suspect you might fat with all those biscuits OP...

littlejohnnydory · 05/12/2014 17:21

Don't feed the bridge-dweller, people...nobody is this fucking thick!

littlejohnnydory · 05/12/2014 17:24

Go and find a pro-anorexia website if this kind of thing floats your boat, Blue

Grammar · 05/12/2014 17:29

Kitten two Yah, me too. I have no idea when I've actually had enough to eat (or drink)
OP I know this is an old thread and has probably been said, but ...Have you EVER considered the people you judge (as fat) and wonder what they may have to offer you? ie, thoughtfulness, intelligence, consideration and also possibly a greater knowledge of life not to speak of kindness.

We speak, as a nation in this climate, so much of ME, assertiveness, stand-up-for yourself, speak out.... but it may be at the cost of kindness, has anyone stopped to think about our way of thinking these days?

Grammar · 05/12/2014 17:49

Grammar · 05/12/2014 17:50

Meant to put big grin emoticon, frumpet

gazouille · 05/12/2014 18:44

I bet the OP has piled it on in the last three years. Wern't people ignorant in the olden days (2011)?

gazouille · 05/12/2014 18:45

Apparently, it only takes eight years off your life and the way things are going they would be spent in a nursing home which could well make a life's worth effort of effort to stay trim not actually worth the effort.

andsmileitschristmas · 05/12/2014 18:49

well the OP noticed fat people - she never said they were horrible people.

If someone is fat they are fat

If they are skinny they are skinny

It is plain to see - but I dont judge them you can't pretend that dont see something.

Talk about the elephant in the room.

ArsenicSoup · 05/12/2014 18:53

Oh christmas don't be so disingenuous.

OP said WHY in earth would you let yourself get like that? Do people have no self respect or self discipline?

Not exactly neutral/pleasant.

andsmileitschristmas · 05/12/2014 18:58

well actuallu it is about control of eating habits - self discipline and I relate self respect or lack of it to low self esteem issues.

I dont know why everyone always kicks off one fat/overweight/obese threads - not everyone has a disorder and if people cold talk more constructively about looking after their health it would be much better.

Some people just dont like to admit they have made poor choices over a period of time that has got them to the weight they are - you have to accept this and take responsibility for it - after all no one else can lose the weight for you
