to not want DH to dress DS like this for a wedding...

TwigletMonster · 11/05/2011 19:57

DS will be 6 months on the occasion of BIL's wedding. DH wants him to wear this or similar.

He is half-joking, half-serious - I am taking the bait and duly appalled by the notion! DD will be a flowergirl, and I think it's a very silly idea to put DS in a fancy dress outfit.

AIBU? Will DS look "cool" or a bit silly?

It looks horrible.
Just buy a little collared shirt and some trousers for the photo bit (if he's in any) and then change him into something more comfortable!

HerRoyalNotness · 11/05/2011 22:11

Not my cup of Brew

What about something from here?

www.littlebou.co.uk/0-6-months the Lille Barn Bamboo Knits are cute, and will be comfy, and on sale.

skybluepearl · 11/05/2011 22:53

well i think it's really cute! maybe he could wear it for the reception? with a drawn on moustache?

CurrySpice · 11/05/2011 22:54

And a cigarello skybluepearl? :o

Northeastgirl · 11/05/2011 23:00

Think it looks a bit naff, but at least it's not cheap. Why not buy it and then make sure baby is sick quickly (ie before photos are taken) so you can change him into something else. Everyone's a winner

sorry, at least it is cheap

YANBU. Yuck.

Pandemoniaa · 11/05/2011 23:11

'tis naff. Especially since it is a wedding and not a fancy dress party. A really nice, soft little shirt and shorts would look lovely. Although at 6 months, you could just let him be a baby and wear a posh all in one.

JeelyPiece · 11/05/2011 23:12

We had five week old DS at a wedding last weekend in this and he was much admired Smile

peeriebear · 11/05/2011 23:13

It depends on the wedding really! It would have been fine at our wedding. The baby would have had a curly 'tache drawn on too. (We did have pirates at our wedding though).
I can't believe people would think it disrespectful or taking the piss- it's a 6mth old baby! My nephews have been gussied up for family events by my brother and SIL since birth, in silly sailor suits, waistcoats, cummerbunds and baker boy caps. IMHO they looked ridiculous and uncomfortable, not to mention difficult to change!

TotemPole · 11/05/2011 23:13

Remember, at some point in the future, when he's older, you'll have to explain to him why you made him wear it.

maighdlin · 11/05/2011 23:15

YABU its a bit of a laugh. any fan of how i met your mother will like it.

Pandemoniaa · 11/05/2011 23:35

Why is it a "bit of a laugh" to make a baby look ridiculous?

Nanny0gg · 11/05/2011 23:39

It's not nice. Really it's not.
If the wedding is soon, can't you find a really special, smart, summery little boy's outfit?
It can still be all-in-one, but something suitable for a baby, not a mini adult.

heleninahandcart · 12/05/2011 00:56

Eek and its velour too Shock

iscream · 12/05/2011 01:50

Yanbu. That (or any)"babygro" is far too casual for a wedding. It is like those tux t-shirts. (my son has one). They are not meant for actual formal occasions. Then again, what is the dress code for the wedding? I would co ordinate his outfit to go with you and your family. Also, what will the weather be like? Summer, fall?

www.kidsoasis.co.uk/acatalog/Baby_Boys_4_Piece_White_Blue_Christening_Suit_with_Dickie_Bow__M96b_.html (If not too formal? Depends on the dress code.)

I like this sort of thing for special occasions.

Here are some really cute dress outfits for baby boys.
You could possibly ask someone to sew him an outfit even?

Iscream - those last 3 links of yours are exactly my taste for baby boys and how I would dress one for a wedding (or any chance I could really!). How baby boys should be dressed in my (very old fashioned) opinion!

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 12/05/2011 02:33

As your dd will be a flowergirl, it's particularly important that you dress your ds appropriately as all eyes will be on your family at some point - as well as the camera lens.

MumblingRagDoll's suggestion was spot on - whatever the time of year, you can't go wrong with a classic baby boy's sailor suit for a formal occasion such as a wedding.

DillyTantay · 12/05/2011 04:44

I don't
like it and lol at a baby being " too casual"

GotArt · 12/05/2011 04:56

You are right to be appalled by it. Its tacky. I wouldn't and if you really don't like it, don't. But its just my opinion. I hate all those tacky little one-zee's with stupid slogans on it like 'back seat driver', 'girls love me' or the hordes of them out there. Find a nice summery outfit for him... even the Gap has nice things.

nooka · 12/05/2011 06:55

Very naff. I'm not sure I'd have bought anything special for the occasion - just put ds/dd in something I really liked. I can't remember any 'dressed up' babies when I got married. However if you want to, then I'd be looking for something with a bit of wedding colour in it to go with your dd's flower girl look and also that looks nice with whatever you and your dh are wearing.

So you need to find a nice purple, turquoise, white and grey baby grow - easily done do doubt Grin I'm sure everyone will say he is gorgeous whatever he is wearing.

On a fancy dress theme, this
one does remind me of prison uniforms a bit - I think ds would have looked very sweet in it.

Or if you are OK with a slightly more girly look this one is very purple, or this one is a bit more neutral

Or if it's a summer wedding perhaps a more shirt like suit? This one is purple and possibly turquoise too.

Here's one
to match your outfit

Not sure about the colours, but this outfit looks like it fit a big nappy quite easily

Hope you find something nice and have a happy wedding :)

AKissIsNotAContract · 12/05/2011 07:26

Are people seriously going to judge what a 6 month old is dressed like for a wedding? I don't think the same rules apply to babies as to adult wedding guests, the adults being far less likely to need a few outfit changes after shitting themselves than babies.

pointissima · 12/05/2011 07:29

Dreadful dreadful dreadful
