to not want DH to dress DS like this for a wedding...

DS will be 6 months on the occasion of BIL's wedding. DH wants him to wear this or similar.

He is half-joking, half-serious - I am taking the bait and duly appalled by the notion! DD will be a flowergirl, and I think it's a very silly idea to put DS in a fancy dress outfit.

AIBU? Will DS look "cool" or a bit silly?

I prefer the Emile Et Rose one, but I tend to like the old fashioned type cotton romper on baby boys. I cant get away with it now in this country on DS

Abelia · 11/05/2011 20:46

yikes babygro tux is horrid, imo.

tbh you could go with shirt and trousers option, they can be perfectly comfortable for babies, or just put him in a nice clean, new or newish babygro or normal soft trousers and top / tshirt with bright stripes or in baby or navy (which looks smart) blue or something.

He will a) certainly need changing out of it at least once if not five times during the day and b) he will simply be utterly cute and lovely just being a 6mo smiley happy baby.

hogsback · 11/05/2011 20:48

fabby that's still black tie which I'm sure you will agree is incorrect dress for a wedding. Do they not do a morning suit?

TwigletMonster · 11/05/2011 20:48

I agree the John Lewis one is wishy-washy, but I'm wearing turquoise, DH is in a grey suit with purple tie, DD in white dress with purple sash.

I'm also very drawn to this one - he'd stick out a mile though!! And very expensive.

I think this is a bit tacky tbh, DS had a little trouser and waistcoat suit for a wedding at same age, looked very cute. Was pretty impractical as was dry clean only though Confused

Needanewname · 11/05/2011 20:53

love that last one twiglet

PumpkinBones · 11/05/2011 20:54

H&M do cute baby outfits which are a bit less novelty - DS2 had a white long sleeve vest with a sewn on black dickie bow, and tweedy trousers with braces for a formal party - he looked GORGEOUS and everyone wanted to take his picture. He also had a little soft unstructured suit from there - very reasonably priced and really, really, lovely.

I think the outfit would be fun for a less formal occasion, but I can see why you aren't keen on it for a wedding.

no its definately naff imo i prefer something more classy

Sassybeast · 11/05/2011 21:11

Am not easily offended but I think if someone brought a baby to my wedding in something like that, I'd think they were taking the piss out of my 'do' Blush

PiaThreeTimes · 11/05/2011 21:12

I went to a wedding and a hearing dog was wearing one.

If I saw a child in one, I'd think it tacky and a bit "look at me" on the part of the parents. Sorry!

PedigreeChump · 11/05/2011 21:17

Its very cute but maybe not for a wedding if you don't think it's appropriate. Would be funny/cute at a party though. I don't really think either the JL dungarees or the stripey suit are much better - both are a bit casual in my eyes (although I like them both particularly the stripey suit!)

MangoTango · 11/05/2011 21:20

I think it's really funny and I would definitely dress a baby in it for a wedding!

belgo · 11/05/2011 21:23

Hideous.
There are so many lovely baby clothes around, I would chose something colourful and practical, a bit like the stripy baby gro you've linked to.

Maelstrom · 11/05/2011 21:24

I hate it sorry. That's the same as dressing a teenager in a Tshirt that looks like a suit for a wedding.

Babygros are for sleeping, or for the days you stay at home.

smoggii · 11/05/2011 21:24

My friend put her newborn DS in one of these for the Royal Wedding and it looked adorable

CurrySpice · 11/05/2011 21:27

smogggii Shock At the Abbey!?! Shock

Where's the rolly eyed smiley when you need it eh?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 11/05/2011 21:27

I agree that a babygro/romper suit is fine for a wedding just not THAT one it's hideous looks like the penguin from batman movie even worse if like most babies ur DS has a pot belly.

Mamas and papas do a lovely little suit soft tan trousers soft White shirt cashmere cable knit vest it's £60 tho so quite expensive.
Don't mind the John Lewis outfit but dont like stripey one.

TwigletMonster · 11/05/2011 21:33

smoggii I can see how it would look cute for the Royal Wedding or something a bit more casual, but not an actual wedding. It's clearly quite a devisive outfit, babywear marmite! Am guessing wedding guests will react the same, so it's a definite no-no!!

Fink · 11/05/2011 21:34

OMG, it is horrendous! I would dress a child in that for Hallowe'en, not a wedding! The stripy one was fine.

Tryharder · 11/05/2011 21:38

Vile, tacky, chavvy, naff, hideous... etc.

What's wrong with a nice pair of linen trousers and little shirt from Monsoon?? Or indeed any top and any trousers, just not that.

jenga079 · 11/05/2011 21:49

Hahahaha, I'll be getting married when LO is about 6 months old and I'm seriously tempted to get him one now I've seen your link! We were going to get a mini suit, but that looks much more comfy Grin

jennieflower · 11/05/2011 21:56

I also hate the baby tux, the Toby Tiger one is gorgeous though, incidentally I took my DS to a family funeral when he was 5 months old and I dressed him in the stripy blue Toby Tiger suit thinking it would be better than dressing him in dark clothes. They are really well made and great quality but do come up very small. My DS outgrew the 6-12 month one before he was 7 months old.

MrsFlittersnoop · 11/05/2011 22:01

No no no. Not common, is "Ironic"!

I think it's hilarious!

My Cultural Studies lecturer agrees too.

CurrySpice · 11/05/2011 22:03

OP smoggii's friend actually went to the Royal wedding Hmm

:o
