There's a thread about Mothercare being a bit rubbish...

My mum advised me against pumpkin patch as apparently the clothes aren't very good quality...

Just being nosy really!

Sainsbury's mostly. Also Next, H&M, odd bits from M&S.
have just discovered Boots for dd2, although sadly the clothes stop at age 5 in there i think, so too small for dd1.

I would prefer to kit them out in john lewis, but can't justify the prices. we get a few bits there in the sales, or for special occasions.

Marne · 11/05/2011 20:50

I buy pj's and jeans from Next, girls dresses from TK max, the rest comes from e-bay, bootsales and charity shops (Boden, Joules).

Managed to get dd1 some Boden t-shirts and a Monsoon dress from a charity shop yesterday Grin.

Was tempted by Fat Face today as they had a sale and lots of clothes that dd1 (tom boy) would love.

nannyj · 11/05/2011 20:51

Vertbaudet even Blush

carciofi · 11/05/2011 20:52

Boden, Gap, H&M, Vertbaudet, occasionally Next and M&S.

Hopefully · 11/05/2011 20:54

We hardly ever buy clothes for DS1 (2.8yrs) - he seems to be given enough to limp him through, and I make pyjamas, shorts and t-shirts for him - but odd bits we do get are from M&S and seasalt. Best ever buy was a hugely reduced brora hoodie in the sale - it has lasted 18 months and counting (bought it ginormously large for him).

DS2 (6 weeks) is mainly hand me downs and handknits, but new sleepsuits from M&S are washing well so far.

IgnoringTheChildren · 11/05/2011 20:56

Asda, M&Co (when they happen to have boys clothes in!), occasionally Sainsburys and Tesco if I spot something nice and they have it in the right size. Very occasionally Mothercare (hardly anything in for boys plus over-priced for the quality, which is a bit poor!) John Lewis or M&S (definitely good for slimmer fitting clothes) for nicer stuff.

DS1 is rather slim so I used to have problems getting him trousers - Pumpkin Patch used to do the best jeans IMO, although haven't bought any recently as almost everywhere does the adjustable waist elastic thingy now.

Unfortunately DS2 is definitely not slim and at 5 months is in DS1's old 9-12 month trousers Shock. He hasn't even worn a lot of DS1's cast-offs as they were already too small round the waist when we got them out of the attic. So much for it being cheaper to have another boy! Anyone know the best place to buy clothes for a biffer? Confused

Maybeitsbecause · 11/05/2011 20:59

Asda, Tesco, Next, H&M, Zara. Occasionally M&S, John Lewis, Boden if I am feeling flush. Buy the odd thing from Vertbaudet, Peacocks, Primark.

Buy shoes mostly from Clarks or John Lewis (Start Rite).

Winter coats from John Lewis or M&S.

welliesundermeballgoon · 11/05/2011 21:00

Can't believe that Pumpkin Patch is classed as shoddy quality, I buy clothes from all sorts of shops and find that theirs are the most durable, their long sleeve tees are brilliant, they just wash and wash and don't move from looking brand new!

I always like Boots girls clothes on the hanger but when I put them on dd they always look like dirndl skirts! The toddler boy stuff tends to be nice and good quality though. I love Boots PJ's more than any other brand, very good quality!

Jojay · 11/05/2011 21:01

I love H&M for boys, and I also have lots of bits from Debenhams as I work there and it's convenient!

Their Blue Zoo range is reasonably priced and good quality though the sizing is odd - tops are tiny and trousers are huge.

DS1 is skinny so jeans are from Next due to adjustable waists.

Primark is great for pj's, pants etc, and some of the best soft comfy trousers came from there.

deliciousdevilwoman · 11/05/2011 21:03

Boden, Monsoon, Vertbaudet, Joules, Primarni, Mamas & Papas, Asda and TK Maxx.

dixiechick1975 · 11/05/2011 21:07

Boden, some Next (a lot less now DD doesn't fit in the young girls range), tiny bit of M & S, ebay, TK maxx.

TK maxx usually get some different clothes at good prices - got DD some summer dresses v similar to boden for £12.99, US brand maggie and zoe.

Also like Gymboree. Stock up when in USA.

DD is v tall 5 yr old needs age 7-8. She still prefers younger girl styles and so do I. Problem I find is a lot of ranges assume anyone 5-6 upwards wants trendy stuff with tween stars on.

oldraver · 11/05/2011 21:12

Wherever I see something I like. I buy quite few second hand/Ebay to get the stuff I like. I like a brand called Me Too also Marese and Oilily

mamasmissionimpossible · 11/05/2011 21:18

ASDA, tesco, Sainsbury, M&S, debenhams, ebay
gymboree , GAP, Ralph Lauren, OSHKOSH all from USA, bought by generous MIL!

deliciousdevilwoman · 11/05/2011 21:19

Old Raver-I love Oilily and used to dress my DTS's (now aged 23)in it all the time! There seemed to be fab clothes back in those days-Naf Naf, Cakewalk, Jean Bourget, Pampolina, Mexx, Catmini-v. colourful and v. different.

oldraver · 11/05/2011 21:22

Too many likes there no wonder my head is hurting.

Delicious.... buy buying stuff that is 'out of season' I am paying less for OililyMe too things (Me Too are ex Oilily designers) than a run of the mill pair of trousers from Next. I went to get DS some everday jeans from there a few months ago and they were priced from £12-£18..... for plain basic jeans

Marne · 11/05/2011 21:34

I love 'me too' i always look out for it in TK Max but now the dd's are getting older its hard to find things big enough, same with next, dd2 is in 5-6 so it will be the last year of her wearing Next (the older girls stuff is too grown up), i'm waiting for the Boden sale to get dd2 some jersey shorts, i cant justify paying £18 for a pair, they fit her really well and seem to wash well.

Shoes, mainly from Clarks, Kickers, TK Max (dd1 has a pair of birkenstocks which cost me £9.99 a few eeks ago from TK Max) and dd2 had some fake lelly kelly from there too.

deliciousdevilwoman · 11/05/2011 21:35

OldRaver-do you get your Oilily items from Ebay? I heard that TK Maxx have the odd bit, but scout as I have, I have yet to find any. I would love to dress DD (aged 5 months) in it, but couldn't afford full price. I had more money and less sense, 20+ years ago!

littlebird3 · 11/05/2011 21:40

Gap, H&M, Polarn O Pyret , Boden & Next. Get a few bits from Asda & sainsburys for nursery. Also love getting bargains on Ebay.
I prefer to buy good quality brands that do something a little different.

pinkyp · 11/05/2011 21:42

my favourites (for quality) are Next, Mini mode. I like george for more novilty items (slogan t.shirts, character pjs etc)

Marne · 11/05/2011 21:46

Our local TK max often has Oilily and cakewalk (small sizes) also Me too, Molo (funky sleepsuits and vests), strawberry fair and (i think its called) philster and philina.

LisamumtoJake · 11/05/2011 21:50

Ebay for second hand bits he wont need for long. Otherwise i buy DS's clothes from, Tesco, Sainsbo, M&S and Next mostly.

ZonkedOut · 11/05/2011 21:53

Sainsbury's, M&S, Mothercare, Pumpkin Patch, Next. I find Gap good but very expensive for children't clothes. Pumpkin Patch quite expensive but good quality, and I love their purple ranges. :) Sainsbury's reasonable prices but sometimes a bit patchy quality wise. Mothercare and M&S mostly decent quality and slightly expensive, but some nice stuff if you can find it.

Tryharder · 11/05/2011 21:54

Charity shops, freecycle, eBay, jumble sales, car boot. Have always bought second hand on principle. However, was feeling flush yesterday and spent £80 in The White Company [don't know what came over me]

mammaditre · 11/05/2011 21:57

Tesco are great for undies, sleepsuits and vests. I bought baby vests there for my PFB & have just used them all again for DC3 and they were still in great nick.

H&M have the best boys stuff, funky rolling stones t's etc

For special occasions might splash out on a Ralph lauren shirt or maybe POP (best jeans but pricey). Got suckered into buying a load of Captain Tortue stuff a while back by a friend who started selling it and wanted to support her. The quality was dreadful within a couple of washes it was all faded & really poor fabric that tore easily. Not good & quite pricey. Never again...am now avoiding said friend as everytime I went over to her house she'd pull out her rails and I'd feel obliged...sucker I know. As my DH says they have big windows...she saw you coming

WillbeanChariot · 11/05/2011 21:59

Charity shops. Ebay. Gifts. It's so very satisfying to get a pair for pumpkin patch trousers for 99p in the charity shop Smile. Even DS's nappies are secondhand...
