to think that the Disney Faces competition is likely to go pearshaped

here

Not sure I like the idea of a beautiful baby competition. And this is pitting MNetters each other. Can only end in tears and flounces.

Can we have a ban on "Please vote for my baby" threads please? Or is there one already in place?

YANBU. hideous horrible idea.

AuntiePickleBottom · 10/05/2011 18:54

yanbu, i hate all this baby competitions

Sirzy · 10/05/2011 18:57

Yanbu. I hate the idea of competitions like this.

Perhaps mn should have a section where people can post there pleas for votes so everyone else can avoid them easily!

TrillianAstra · 10/05/2011 19:08

Why does Disney want babies in its film shoot anyway? Surely they are all too small to be watching films?

I want a 'none of the above' vote button.

Hulababy · 10/05/2011 19:15

Think it is to advertise their baby range at Disney Store.

But yes, have already noticed a few "please can you vote for my...." posts. If we are ging to have this would rather those type of posts weren't allowed. Should be completely anonympous.

Also don't like the running bar chart of which child is in the lead, etc. Again, would prefer for MN to just announce the winner at the end.

MmeLindt · 11/05/2011 12:21

Yes, I would imagine that it is good advertising, and that the competition will bring new posters to MN who have never ventured here before. I noticed it because one of the aunts of a baby on the shortlist is posting dozens of links on Twitter to ask for votes.

It is the kind of competition that I dislike, as it is all about the social media presence of the parents and their families, not about the actual children.

Aside from the fact that Bonnie Bairns competitions seems so incredibly outdated and blah.

it's all a bit Netmums

TheOriginalFAB · 11/05/2011 12:35

YANBU.

I did vote but don't want the voucher and won't be watching any film.

catinthehat2 · 11/05/2011 12:37

I actually hope it DOES go pearshaped.

I want to see an end to these awful voting threads for good

muminthecity · 11/05/2011 12:45

It's a horrible idea, and these things are never voted for fairly anyway. People post 'vote for me' pleas all over Twitter and Facebook, so the winner will invariably end up being the baby whose parents have the most friends/followers on the internet.

catinthehat2 · 11/05/2011 12:50

"People post 'vote for me' pleas all over Twitter and Facebook, so the winner will invariably end up being the baby whose parents have the most friends/followers on the internet."

(yes, ie just a traffic increase ploy)

it's fake fake fake

carriemumsnet · 11/05/2011 14:10

Hi there

Thanks for the feedback. We thought long and hard about whether we should do this and decided on balance that some folks would like it (actually borne out by the v high level of entries) . We did however make sure that it was a picture and caption contest - rather than just a bonny bairn contest - as we thought this made it more Mumsnet.

We would absolutely delete any threads that said "vote for my baby" - so if you see any please report them - but sadly have no control over twitter.

The bar chart showing who is winning was a total mistake and should never have gone up. We took it down immediately we were alerted but somehow it's crept back up there again and is being deleted again as we speak - we agree that that is/was not a good idea.

Anyway all comments noted, and thanks again for the feedback

MumblingRagDoll · 11/05/2011 14:15

I don't mind it....I see them all as gorgeous and have just now voted for the picture I liked best....the whole scene as it were.

AgentZigzag · 11/05/2011 14:17

Shock that's awful, I hate that kind of thing.

Shit...I accidently voted for the cute baby in the basket.

How will I live with myself?

working9while5 · 11/05/2011 15:13

I don't agree with the voting.

If you wanted this competition, MN, you could have just had it as a photography competition.

Voting is just about popularity and yes, very much netmums

MumblingRagDoll · 11/05/2011 16:03

lol Zigzag...whoops! I said Lol AND voted for the cute baby kssing itself in the mirror!

catinthehat2 · 11/05/2011 18:03

Worse than something off the JEremy Kyle show

Shock
JustineMumssnet · 11/05/2011 18:05

I think I have the best DIsney face.

EduStudent · 11/05/2011 18:42

Justine, did you just have to ask yourself to delete that?!

buggeroffandhaveabiscuit · 11/05/2011 18:49

I was once asked to judge a hideous 'bonny baby' competition at a fete. I chose the most unfortunate looking child there. Her mum was thrilled, I was persona non grata down the toddler group Grin

MmeLindt · 11/05/2011 21:06

Justine
I am so Shock at you.

You have let MNHQ down, you have let MNetters down and most of all...

Haha - caught red-handed! I posted and then noticed Carrie had so thought I'd remove mine. (We do try quite hard to dissuade advertisers from this type of activity - will resolve to try harder).
