However much you love your DCs, do you regret their facial features/expressions which clearly come from other relatives?

Presumably you're happy if they look like you, and/or maybe the child's other parent.

But are you irritated when you see a hated relative in their features/expressions/movements? Like your in-laws, or a grandparent you despise?

Or even phrases?

Well I can say Im dreading my little one ever looking like my partners brother. And i dont think it unreasonable to feel like that either. Really depends on what effect they have had on your life.

munstersmum · 04/05/2011 11:52

Even DH hopes DS's nose doesn't turn out like his when older Grin

Chandon · 04/05/2011 11:55

I'll start despairing when they get as hairy as DH and all the men in their family. Shock

For now they are very goodlooking boys if I say so myself!Grin

but the HAIR that is awaiting them!!!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/05/2011 12:01

DD is gorgeous. Fact. She has the unfortunate sneer of my SiL occasionally. If I catch her doing it I ask her if she wants to end up looking like Aunty X. That is enough to stop her.

BelfastBloke · 04/05/2011 12:04

Oh yeah, what are you fairly sure is awaiting them in the future?

I live in fear of Boy inheriting the meaty solid build of his fathers fathers side. Its too early to tell (not walking yet) but he does seem on the large scale. DH is built tall and skinny like his mum so thats what i'm hoping for.

I really hope he doesn't end up with his father's feet though, at size 12. Lots of mens styles only go to size 11 or the shop only stocks to size 11, but the big and tall ones tend to start at 13, so he's buggered either way.

GloriaSmut · 04/05/2011 12:07

I rarely waste my energies on hatred. But I must confess that I'm sorry ds1 has inherited his father's hair! My dgd seems to have inherited a particular expression from her great-great-grandmother too but I'm hoping it'll wear off as she gets past babyhood!

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 04/05/2011 12:09

ok runs in , I was never here , what happens on mumsnet stays on mumsnet .
I only ever wanted a boy as my dh sisters all look like Mrs Doubtfire on a good day including the bloody kilt .
Runs out again .

SummerRain · 04/05/2011 12:10

dp has no chin so I'm constantly examining the dcs in profile to make sure they aren't as chin deficient Blush

dd is frighteningly similar to her aunt in temper and tendancy towards hysterical wailing and that terrifies dp.... I'm hoping it's just that his sister behaves like a small child rather than dd taking after her but I suppose time will tell....

BellaBearisWideAwake · 04/05/2011 12:12

Both DSs have DH's horrible toes. Will involve chiropodist visits later on in life. Sigh.

Poledra · 04/05/2011 12:17

All 3 DDs have inherited DH's mahoosive head. Having birthed all 3 of these king-size bonces, I so hope they have children with men who have small-to-average sized heads, and that my grandchildren inherit their father's heads.....

CrapBag · 04/05/2011 12:36

I am hoping that DD isn't going to be like SIL. So far they do have the same colouring but DD is gorgeous and I hope she gets everything else from my side, including her personality.

I hope that DS isn't going to get DH's rather large belly that apparently his dad and grandad had as well.

pingu2209 · 04/05/2011 13:21

Ha ha ha - I just think the question is really funny. Isn't the saying "he has a face only his mother could love".

My eldest child was so handsome until he started to lose his baby teeth and his adult teeth came in. My dh has TERRIBLE teeth and has had years of braces etc. But they are still dreadful. My gorgeous eldest child (boy) takes after his dad and looks like a mouth full of toomb stones!

I just hope my middle and youngest children don't take after their father's teeth!

gramercy · 04/05/2011 13:25

Whereas ds (12) has tiny feet and hands (like me) poor old dd (7) has enormous feet for her age. Two fitters in shoe shops have remarked on it. Dh has size 12 feet and they are hideous.

mrsravelstein · 04/05/2011 13:29

ds1 and ds2 have inherited my (if i do say so myself) lovely thick strong shiny hair which is of no particular use to them.

dd has thin wispy mousey hair and a dracula style hairline from her dad Sad

gramercy · 04/05/2011 13:31

Yes - ds has lots of curly hair, which I'm afraid I let him wear long cavalier-style until he was 11.

Dd has the thinnest hair ever that you can see her scalp through. It won't grow much below her chin, either, and is far too fine to plait, wear a hair-slide in, etc.

My dcs are really the wrong way round!

gramercy · 04/05/2011 13:32

Of course, all the bad features come from dh's side of the family Grin

onebigchocolatemess · 04/05/2011 13:32

my eldest ds - if he can't do something the first time will throw it across the room (patience like his father) and if another child comes near him his first assumption is that they want to take his toy off him and snaps at them. I really hope this is maturity and not a hint of my tendencies as a child!

Looks wise, my eldest takes after hubbys family which used to bug me as there was no 'me' in him at all. But our youngest is totally me so I am happy now we have 'one each' as it were! :0))

Bluemoonrising · 04/05/2011 13:33

My mum has an issue with my DD's nose - which comes from her dads side.

I think she is perfectly beautiful just the way she is.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 04/05/2011 13:34

I'm anxiously monitoring my DCs' noses as both me and DH are extra-blessed in that department.
So far, so good - I'm sure mine was big noticeable by the time I was in Y7 as I remember having to describe my appearance for homework, and my DM pointed out I have a Roman nose. Thanks mum.
I longed for a nosejob throughout my teens, then saw the gory details of a rhinoplasty operation on telly so decided in my twenties to live with it. Then after having the DCs I felt it would be like telling them they were ugly if I changed a feature they were likely to share.
Sometimes I think, if they all reach mid-teens unscathed I might go for it - even though I'll be over 50 then.

I'm hoping DD turns out an hourglass like me than a pear like my sister. She's still got time to grow boobs and have an upwards-growing spurt to lose the thighs!

confuddledDOTcom · 04/05/2011 13:59

My eldest either looks like me (like looking in a mirror, she has my expressions) or likes like her cousin on her dad's side. It's strange the way she can look like one or other of us on different days. Usually when she's being defiant that she looks like her cousin, they both just have this look they give people.

She has her brother's mannerisms though, which is weird because he lives two hours away and she spends a day with him every month or two. They have this weird noise they do when talking, like a squeaky thing (like getting too excited) she definitely has his excitement level! Although it's a little annoying I love her brothers so I'm not complaining!

yoshiLunk · 04/05/2011 14:04

Slightly different, but my DSS has the looks and mannerisms of his mother - irritates the crap out of me. Grin

Lemonylemon · 04/05/2011 14:07

Unfortunately, DS has inherited his father's sneer.....

Bonsoir · 04/05/2011 14:10

I cannot really tell yet which unfortunate features DD might have inherited from DP's side of the family. I used to worry a lot about her legs and her nose, as the DSSs have both got dreadful legs and DSS1 has a huge nose. But then I worked out that the DSSs' legs have come straight down their maternal line, so there is nothing to be afraid about there, and that DSS1's has ended up with a nose that is an unfortunate combination of DP's and exW's (she had a nose job in her teens so it wasn't apparent where DSSs' had come from). DSS2 has a great nose (also DP's side). So far DD's legs and nose are lovely . She definitely gets her muscles/gross motor skills from DP, not from me.

megapixels · 04/05/2011 14:14

With my eldest I was terrified, absolutely terrified, that he or she might look like dh's sister. Not only because she's an ugly pig, even that is ok, but she is an evil person with a really dislikable look about her. I needn't have worried, there is no resemblance at all. I am so grateful for that.
