However much you love your DCs, do you regret their facial features/expressions which clearly come from other relatives?

Presumably you're happy if they look like you, and/or maybe the child's other parent.

But are you irritated when you see a hated relative in their features/expressions/movements? Like your in-laws, or a grandparent you despise?

Or even phrases?

FIL,DH and 2xDS's have identical open-mouthed, head back, slightly snoring asleep-in-the-car position.
DD curls neatly against car door (no drooling)..from my side of the family...

wordfactory · 04/05/2011 14:18

DS looks like his Dad so all to the good. Plus he has his paternal grandmother's colouring... very blonde hair, very clear olive skin...sigh.

DD has my colouring...much paler with more honeyed hair. I wish she had her brother's colouring (though would never say so).

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 04/05/2011 14:19

It depends if I like the relative or not. Grin

Quenelle · 04/05/2011 14:20

I love that DS looks a lot like my brother. And they have a very similar sweet temperament too. My brother hasn't found anyone to settle down and have kids with yet and I worry that he'll end up alone so it's nice that he and others can recognise him in his nephew.

NotShortImFunSized · 04/05/2011 14:21

Ds1 looks so much like his psycho sperm donor when he is cross, makes me do a double take every time. Scary Confused

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 04/05/2011 14:22

i swear my DD is a clone of MIL

she has a 'look' and can say 'what!?' well enough like her to fool anyone

Grin as MIL is fab and will never be taken for granted Wink

Soopermum1 · 04/05/2011 14:23

DS is his father's double, except for my dodgy eyesight and bland, straight hair. I got that from my dad and he started going bald at about 40, whereas DH's beautful thatch is likely to stay put for the rest of his life.

poor DS, there will come a day when his dad will have more hair than him.

mamsnet · 04/05/2011 14:25

DS has some awful facial expressions from FIL.. And before anybody says they re learned, he very rarely sees him..
BOth DC have been know to worry me with exhibitions of my brother's awful temper.. But as a pp said, I am really clinging on to the hope that my brother is just being childish and my children will actually grow out of it.

Broadwalkempire · 04/05/2011 14:25

Poor DD seems to have inherited the "solid" legs from all the females in either side of the family. It's the men who seem to have the good pins including DS. She does however have the beautiful luscious locks which I was really pleased about.....

SueSylvesterforPM · 04/05/2011 14:28

nope my DS is gorgeous like advert material I was a hideous child aslong as he doesnt suffer as I did im fairly relieved he wont IYSWIM.

SueSylvesterforPM · 04/05/2011 14:29

I didnt mean it quite like that Blush

PrincessBananaGrabber · 04/05/2011 14:31

I love how all the features you don't want/like are from the in laws Hmm Such good luck that your own families are so good looking.

JemimaMop · 04/05/2011 14:38

DS1 does the same "WTF?" expression as DH when I nag him. Which I find quite irritating in both of them.

DS2 looks very like my brother, which is fab as my brother is lovely, however he was a bit of a wayward teen, so I'm hoping it is only looks that they have in common.

DD is a mini me. Which winds DH up a treat Grin

BendyBob · 04/05/2011 14:39

Lol at inheriting a headGrin

Both dd's have mil's shape ie small bum and long slim legsEnvy. Mil may have her faults but I'd much rather dd's took after her shape than my pear shaped lower half any day. Oh the ongoing battles to find trousers to fit (I take after my mumHmm sigh)

Mamaz0n · 04/05/2011 14:39

Ds is the absolute image of his father. He has the same expressions and mannerisms.

It is not something that i like. Especially when he is angry. It has gotten me quite upset sometimes.

yoshiLunk · 04/05/2011 14:39

My DS is gorgeous too, I mean from about 10 months every single snapshot of him is just stunning < Hmm ok so the stork delivered someone else's>

...but every day I study his nose and hope that it doesn't one day develop into my DH's (think Geoffrey Palmer) Blush

slowshow · 04/05/2011 14:40

Oh god. I'm pregnant with my first child, and the idea of my lovely baby inheriting any of my FIL's features fills me with horror.

gramercy · 04/05/2011 14:42

I think people are being a bit tongue-in-cheek, PrincessBananaGrabber.

I know that if mil says any of her grandchildren resemble their mothers, that grandchild is doomed in the popularity stakes. No unfortunate feature or personality trait could possibly have come from her side of the family.

gramercy · 04/05/2011 14:44

I once spat out my coffee laughing when a poster confessed that all passion with her dh flew out of the window when she realised it was the face of her mil bearing down on her...

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 04/05/2011 14:45

DS1 is gorgeous, I have no idea where his eyes have come from, they don't look like anyone.
His nose and smile are like mine which are not bad if I say so myself Grin

DS2 it is too early to tell, he is only 5 weeks old - but it looks like he is going to have the same lovely eyes as DS1 :)

jobrien1980 · 04/05/2011 15:01

I'm hoping the my future DCoesn't inherit the MIL's enormous bird-of-prey nose (not to mention her cantankerous personality :-P)

jobrien1980 · 04/05/2011 15:04

PS Argh...don't post when incredibly tired....

JamieAgain · 04/05/2011 15:04

I'll going to make you all hurl now, but, my two seem to be in the fortunate position of having the best bits of all of us. They really are very good-looking, and I'm not all that much.

cheekeymonkey · 04/05/2011 15:05

Well, this is living proof that only good looking people should be allowed to breed! Grin

[runs off - fast!]

MardyBra · 04/05/2011 15:05

I hope DS gets his hairline from my side of the family...
