in wondering why the criticism of Princess Beatrice's hat was directed at her rather than at Philip Treacy who designed the bloody thing.

Philip Treacy (if that's how it's spelt)...... this was a truly crap design, just bin it dear, there's a love.

Oh and Beatrice IF you designed the hat and told hom to make it for you then you need to take style advice... and soon.

OP posts:
ginmakesitallok · 03/05/2011 07:42

Because SHE chose to wear it?

emptyshell · 03/05/2011 07:43

She picked it.

Looked like she coulda picked sky telly up on it as well tbh.

Someone somewhere designs flourescent coloured yellow lycra leggings - takes someone else to decide to wear 'em.

GooGooMuck · 03/05/2011 07:44

Because people make shit stuff all the time, but some numpty needs to pick it up and buy it.

FabbyChic · 03/05/2011 07:44

She chose it, she wore it.

Longtalljosie · 03/05/2011 07:45

It's because Beatrice has inherited the position of Subject of Tabloid Invective from her mother. It would appear this is also hereditary.

Animation · 03/05/2011 07:48

Dilly - Beatrice hat talk has already been done to death. What's more to say?

squeakytoy · 03/05/2011 07:50

A willowy model on the catwalk or at Ascot Ladies day could have pulled the look off. A girl who already looks like a hefty deer caught in headlights on most photos of her was never going to look good in a pair of antlers.

Goblinchild · 03/05/2011 07:52

Because certain people believe the latest fashions must by definition be fabulous, that a man supported by the leading fashion editors and Important People must be a talented designer who is cutting edge.
Rather than using their own sense of taste and style to make an assessment of what's on offer.
Like Sat-Nav users who don't use their eyes or common sense.

Morloth · 03/05/2011 07:53

'A willowy model on the catwalk or at Ascot Ladies day could have pulled the look off.'

I disagree, anyone would look stupid in that hat.

OP, unless she is blind a quick look in the mirror/the quickly hidden smirks of those around her should have been a clue.

TheMitfordsMaid · 03/05/2011 07:55

I really find it difficult to get worked up about that hat. I don't think it was that bad, in fact, I quite liked it.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 03/05/2011 07:55

I disagree with the "hefty" statement but possibly not the deer in headlights Grin

Animation · 03/05/2011 07:55

Goverened by external locus of control you mean, rather than internal.

welshbyrd · 03/05/2011 07:58

The hat was just the first of her fashion disasters that day,

Her eye liner was way OTT, looked like she had done 10 rounds with a crayola

Animation · 03/05/2011 08:00

Welshbyrd - Grin - crayola.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/05/2011 08:24

As someone else said, she chose it, she wore it. She wasn't strong armed into it I shouldn't think.
It is entirely possible for me to buy a bikini, sense and concern for other peoples eyesight stop me from doing so.

southeastastra · 03/05/2011 08:25

i don't think it was a crap design at all, quite daring, wrong for a wedding but then again would have looked fine at a more fashionable wedding. i dunno, feat of engineering innit Grin

Northernlurker · 03/05/2011 08:27

She certainly isn't hefty - in fact she looked alarmingly thin to me. If I were her parents I would be concerned about her weight - she has lost a lot over the last couple of years. I would also be concerned about her taste in hats but come on ladies - that was FRIDAY, everybody makes mistakes, move on already.

Chil1234 · 03/05/2011 10:30

The designer never gets the blame. You've only to look through a few glossies after some big event like the Oscars and they have pages of fashion faux-pas, mostly laying the blame at the foot of the wearer in a 'what was she thinking?' kind of way. FWIW I thought 'that hat' had more than a whiff of the Red Queen from Alice Through The Looking Glass. Off with his head, etc.

Morloth · 03/05/2011 10:33

Actually it possibly would have looked maybe OK in Red you know, I think a large part of the WTF?! factor for me was the hideous colour.

Animation · 03/05/2011 10:38

I thought it might have looked OK in navy, and that Victoria Beckham may have carried it well.

PureBloodMuggle · 03/05/2011 10:40

He makes a lot of rubbish looking hats imho.

Gawd knows why anyone buys them. It's the name thing isn't it? I think that the girls would have looked slightly better without those horrible hats glued to thier foreheads (what's that about someone please tell me why were so many hats on the wearer forehead. WHY!!!!!!!!!)

BuntyPenfold · 03/05/2011 10:42

But the fanny hat gave us so many laughs :)
I presume there is style advice available if Beatrice wants it.
I don't think 'hefty' is a fair description though

melikalikimaka · 03/05/2011 10:49

Vicci beckham looked liked a mourning air hostess and Beatrice was given the most God-awful hat to wear, it was horrendous. I would have been ashamed if she were my daughter, surely judgement was made by Fergie? (Saying that she has very strange taste)

ajandjjmum · 03/05/2011 10:50

I'm surprised all the negativity was focussed on Beatrice (although her hat did look slightly ridiculous); I thought Euginie (sp ?) looked dreadful - I always thought she looked the better of the two.

BuntyPenfold · 03/05/2011 10:50

VB did look dismal for her.
