To have done this to the dog walking couple at the beach today?

Me, DH, DD and DS went to the beach today - very busy - lots of people there enjoying all sorts. Lots of families with kids mucking about and quite a few dog walkers. It was all really nice and I was sat with DS soaking up the sun helping him build sandcastles and just generally people watching, when I notice a couple walking a dog near the sea.

I saw the dog do its business and just carried on watching as they were in my line of vision anyway, the totally didn't pick the dog dirt up and started walking off. They were too far to talk to so I grabbed one of DS's potty liners and scooped up this huge shit and tied it up in the bag. I then went over to the couple and asked if that was their dog, they replied yes, so I said, 'oh you appear to have left this behind' and handed them the bag. They looked completely surprised and said thank you. I just smiled and walked off back to DS. There seemed to be a bit of discussion between them and looking over to me (sat about 150m away) but eventually they just went on their way.

It's not the best beach or has the cleanest sea but there were loads of kids and adults mucking about in bare feet as you do and it would have been really disgusting to have stood in that pile of crap. I do also hate to see people not picking up after their dogs and I wasn't rude or unpleasant about it, I promise! So, WIBU to have done this?

No, you were quite right, and I wish I'd been there to see their faces!

At least there weren't any horses...

BooyHoo · 02/05/2011 19:18

not at all unreasonable. how disgusting are they to not clean up their own dog's poo. yuck. they would be furious if they had trod in someone else's or their child/nephew etc had picked it up.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 02/05/2011 19:18

YANBU to pick up the poo and give it to them
YABU to come on AIBU with it - it's not like anyone's going to come and disagree with you is it?

PrettyCandles · 02/05/2011 19:19

Not at all. No doubt they thought you were weird, but it was far better than getting into an argument with them and the end result was the desired clean beach.

Hopefully your action will also have embarrassed them into scooping in future!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 02/05/2011 19:19

YABU - but only because you ''wasn't rude or unpleasant about it'' Grin

I love dogs, but i frikkin hate their owners sometimes.

cremeeggsbenedict · 02/05/2011 19:19

Absolutely YANBU! I chase people down the street with things they have dropped (or in their parlance, thrown away).

The more we take a stand against peasants people leaving crap everywhere, the sooner we will have a nicer environment to share! There is NEVER an excuse for littering, whether it is a sweet wrapper or dog poo!

emskaboo · 02/05/2011 19:20

That's fab, I wish I'd been there! Well done

gkys · 02/05/2011 19:20

FANTASTIC WELL DONE YOU! I WOULD HAVE PAID GOOD MONEY TO BE THERE, HOW FUNNY [GRIN]

roomonthebroom · 02/05/2011 19:21

Not unreasonable at all. I think dogs should be allowed on beaches as long as the owner cleans up the mess. It's irresponsible owners like them who spoil it for others and get dogs banned from beaches.

AprilRose · 02/05/2011 19:21

Not U in the slightest.

I'm a dog owner myself, and travel absolutely everywhere with my pockets filled with (unused) poo bags. It's what you do if you're a 'responsible' dog owner. Those people were clearly not reponsible dog owners and give the rest of us a bad name.

Good on you for bringing it to their attention!

Carrotsandcelery · 02/05/2011 19:21

Well done oneofthosedays - hopefully they will never do anything so disgusting again.

I am really impressed by people who have the courage to deal with things that are unreasonable as I am such a total coward.

LinenBasket · 02/05/2011 19:21

yanbu - did they actually 'see' their dog do the poop though, because i have more than one dog and have had it pointed out to me that my dog has just pooed, whilst i was deep in convo with dh and i was mortified and of course picked it up.

Wormshuffler · 02/05/2011 19:22

High five!!

PrettyCandles · 02/05/2011 19:22

Oh! Just had a thought - maybe they hadn't noticed their dog pooing, but had noticed that you have a toddler, and thought you were a deranged woman giving them your toddler's poo in a bag! Sorry, but I'm PMSL at that possibility...

I salute you - as, I think, will most of MN.

Let's face it, you just came on here to brag about it really. But why not...

emskaboo · 02/05/2011 19:24

God sorry, should have previewed, how Blush

oneofthosedays · 02/05/2011 19:26

It's just that I've never done anything like that before and was shaking afterwards thinking they were going to march back over and dump it back on me and what would I say!

The other week we were going to tatton park and stuck in a queue behind a car whose passengers saw fit to lob out some screwed up packet or other and me and DH were itching to get out and pop it back in the window but the queue started moving and we didn't.

It's just really annoying the way people litter etc so casually these days.

I will reassure and say no because thats nasty. If someone done that in front of me I would have been absolutely discusded with them. Don't worry about what they were talking about amongst themselves because if you imagine for a moment if your child or any child picking that up and thought it was chocolate and started eating it [cshock]

fishtankneedscleaning · 02/05/2011 19:32

WELL DONE! Please will you move into my street? PLEASE?

silentcatastrophe · 02/05/2011 19:33

Humans are the filthiest animals of all. It's perfectly reasonable to return rubbish to someone who has left it. Not always the safe option though. I do wonder what parents do when their older children need a crap. The times when you do not have a potty and all the accoutrements. Or does everyone with children go to the beach armed with bogroll and poo bags?

oneofthosedays · 02/05/2011 19:33

They deffo saw the dog do its business - bloke wasn't really paying attention and was ahead of the dog (holding the lead) but the woman was right behind the dog watching what it was doing. Maybe they always pick up after it normally and had just forgotten the bags this time [clutches at straws].

PMSL at them thinking it was DS's, they did spend a few mins looking a bit confused!
