To be bemused that so many people STILL think James Hewitt is Harry's father...

Confused

Why do people think this? They don't look alike - the only thing they have in common is the red hair, but Hewitt's is wavy, whereas Harry's looks like a loo-brush, not at all dissimilar to Earl Spencer's.

Plus - wouldn't one of the tabloids have swiped a hair off his jacket while rolling out of a club at 3 in the morning, had it analysed and flogged the story by now if there anything even remotely in it at all.

I always think people are a wee bit simple/naive when they trot out this old chestnut. Grin

But they'd have to have a sample of Charles a nd Diana's to compare it to which might prove a little difficult

ZZZenAgain · 02/05/2011 09:27

you don't have to resemble either your mother or your father, you can be a throw-back. I am the spitting image of my maternal grandmother. I have her eye colour, face shape, build, eyebrows, nose everything as far as I can see. My mother did not. From my father's family I cannot really see a resemblance although I looked like their branch of the family when I was small.

My brother looks like neither his mother nor his father. My sister has my mother's eyes and facial shape but apart from that, she looks like my brother and neither of them look much like their parents.

StickyProblem · 02/05/2011 09:33

So everyone who looks like their mother's side of the family rather than their father's is the result of an affair then? Hmm

piratecat · 02/05/2011 09:34

gosh, Harry is the spit of Diana's sister Sarah.

-gavel-

kiwimumof2boys · 02/05/2011 09:41

Harry is the image of Earl Spencer (Diana's brother).

LunaticIsOnTheGrass · 02/05/2011 09:47

I think Harry looks very much like his cousin George McCorquodale

LunaticIsOnTheGrass · 02/05/2011 09:48

Here as well.

MackerelOfFact · 02/05/2011 09:53

Watching the wedding, it crossed my mind that Harry looked a lot like Hewitt, but on further Googling, Hewitt doesn't actually look how I remembered him to look anyway. I agree that Harry actually looks a lot like Earl Spencer's son Louis and quite like Phillip.

Genes are funny things anyway, you wouldn't think that DSD or DD were actually DPs, but they look totally alike and both are unequivocally his, as evidenced by the fact they have different mothers yet manage to look almost the same. Yet nothing like their dad.

MackerelOfFact · 02/05/2011 09:59

Ooh I agree about Diana's sister Sarah and her nephew George as well - he definitely takes after the Spencer side. Not that that really proves paternity either way, but makes a lot of sense.

LynetteScavo · 02/05/2011 10:02

When he ends up all portly like his uncle and grandand, you''ll all know he has Spencer blood in him.

Actually, I couldn't care less.

Yellowstone · 02/05/2011 11:04

Islandlady I grasp the fact entirely but had moved on a couple of jumps into the hypothetical situation whereby Andrew's legally assumed paternity was disproved. This would make Andrew illegitimate and so cause a legal problem from the point of view of succession. Sorry, bad habit left over from university days and, as I say, all very hypothetical.

But yes, I did understand that you thought it was enough to have 'royal blood'.

CrosswordAddict · 02/05/2011 11:04

I know this is branching off from the original thread, but wouldn't a national DNA database make interesting reading?
With regard to Prince Harry's parentage,DNA samples are so easy to gather now, because every time you use a glass, a loo, a napkin in a public place, anyone can collect it up and have it tested. Thing is though are we interested?

sausagesandmarmelade · 02/05/2011 11:13

He looks like Charles...definitely.
His nose and mouth are all charles...and the manerisms too.

The red hair is from the spencer side. Diana's sister had the same colouring.

edam · 02/05/2011 11:19

The rumour is just ridiculous and must be very hurtful. Ds looks nothing like me - completely takes after dh - but I'm damn sure I'm his mother!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 02/05/2011 11:30

He looks like Charles. And also Earl Spencer.

He had a resemblance to Hewitt when he was younger, but I htink that has more to do with Hewitt and Spencer looking quite alike.

Really, bit nasty to be so widely questioning his parentage, no?

MrsFruitcake · 02/05/2011 11:44

I think he just takes after his mother's side. Wouldn't Charles have done something anything if he thought he wasn't his biological child?

FWIW, I have a very dark haired, olive skinned child with green/brown eyes and a red-haired, fair skinned child with the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen and they share the same father, so it is possible to have two children with the same parents who look totally and utterly different.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 02/05/2011 11:50

I don't care which stable he came out of I still definitely would

colditz · 02/05/2011 12:01

george mccorquodale

Harry's cousin on his mother's side. They really could be twins

colditz · 02/05/2011 12:04

And to be brutal, there is no denying those ears. His hair cut disguises them well, but this photo is very clear about them

Grin Colditz, you are quite right about his ears, the poor sod!

redundanttiara · 02/05/2011 12:25

I think he looks like a cross between George V and Earl Spencer. He just needs some enormous mustachios...

LovelyOakDresser · 02/05/2011 12:46

Aren't browns eyes on a dominant gene though? If Hewitt was the father, Harry would have brown, not blue eyes? I think Charles and Di have bluey-grey eyes (which are recessive IIRC) so their children do. If two blue eyed parents have a child with brown eyes it is very unlikely they are both it's biological parents.

At least thats all the eye colours I can tell from google pics; I may be wrong. I would need to get up close and personal with Harry to thoroughly examine his eye colour Smile
