To be bemused that so many people STILL think James Hewitt is Harry's father...

Confused

Why do people think this? They don't look alike - the only thing they have in common is the red hair, but Hewitt's is wavy, whereas Harry's looks like a loo-brush, not at all dissimilar to Earl Spencer's.

Plus - wouldn't one of the tabloids have swiped a hair off his jacket while rolling out of a club at 3 in the morning, had it analysed and flogged the story by now if there anything even remotely in it at all.

I always think people are a wee bit simple/naive when they trot out this old chestnut. Grin

He is looking more and more like Phillip IMO. The resemblance is quite striking now.

marmaladetwatkins · 01/05/2011 23:21

beertricks I just want to marry Harry for the princess lifestyle. I'll be having an affaire with Johnny Depp for the sexual gratification side of things.

Well no one knows for sure without DNA evidence. He certainly doesn't look like his brother or his royal uncles.
I really dislike the OPs which say if you don't agree with me you are a 'bit simple'. I've noticed a few of these recently.

marmaladetwatkins · 01/05/2011 23:25

Is the green-eyed monster rearing it's head, Beertricks? Wink

Don't worry. You can be my Pippa at the wedding Grin

suburbophobe · 01/05/2011 23:25

LOL at fishing in the same gene pool, my brother-in-law claims all the Euro Royals are crazy cos they're interbred Grin

Whatever the gosssip/innuendo, think Harry is lovely, brings a breath of fresh - cheeky -air into the stuffy Windsor clan!

Loved seeing him on tv at the wedding! Seeing him look around and - my interpretation - saying to his brother, "don't worry, she hasn't jilted you" Grin - classic!

But look at Andy. He looks bugger all like Charlie boy or Edward or Anne. He doesn't have their patrician features. He looks like yer average bloke in the pub, IMVHO. I reckon the Royal family is riddled with illegitimate kiddiwinks. There have been reams written about it. This is what happens when you marry for status not for love. You end up having it orf with the hired help.

Gooseberrybushes · 01/05/2011 23:28

"In profile, Harry looks an awful lot like Prince Philip."

yes he's the image of his grandad

CalamityKate · 01/05/2011 23:28

YABabitU - at times/in some photos he is SOOO the spitting image of JH that it would seem ridiculous to claim he ISN'T his offspring. But then there are times he looks like the Spencers, and at other times - especially lately - he's looking more and more like Phil. Maybe JH is really Prince Philip's?

Animation · 01/05/2011 23:28

I think Harry's got a walk like John Wayne - like he's just got off his horse.

See, I've never seen this supposed resemblance of Harry to Hewitt.

He looks more like the Althorp side I reckon.

And, our DS is like my side - very little physical resemblance to my DH but he is most definitely his son!

I also know a pair of non-identical twins who look absolutely nothing like each other and don't even look like sisters at all. Total opposites in every way - one tall, slim and very dark and the other short, blonde and sturdier. One looks like the parents and the other look like other family members.

My point being that genetics throws up strange combinations and some people who bear resemblances to past generations.

PollyDecker · 01/05/2011 23:34

Ahem

Oh The Grand Old Duke of York
He had 10000 men

linky Wink

Northernlurker · 01/05/2011 23:35

My oldest dd looks like dh but dd2 and dd3 are all my side of the family. You can't conclude anything from looks. Harry is recognised as the son of the Prince of Wales and that's how things will remain. Totally daft to spend time speculating on the basis of hair colour Hmm

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 01/05/2011 23:38

The notion of Diana's second son having been fathered by Hewitt is a load of old cod.

Harry is increasingly morphing into his father and grandfather but, as a child, he had a remarkable resemblance to Diana's red-haired sister Sarah

kaid100 · 01/05/2011 23:39

It wasn't a bad theory at the time.. he used to look a lot more like Hewitt than he did Charles, as time went on he looked a lot more like a Windsor though. Also, at the time we didn't know when the affair started, it wasn't exactly mentioned in the news until much later so it could have started at any point as far as anyone knew.

FudgeGirl · 01/05/2011 23:41

LOL Salmotrutta - I think I know those same twins :)

The photo of Harry and a young Hewitt do show up some similarities, but I agree he's very much like Prince Phillip.

Who cares anyway?

edam · 01/05/2011 23:43

People believe it because they want to believe it. And aren't inclined to let the facts get in the way of a good story. Facts are, the dates are all wrong and Harry looks like his maternal uncle.

Animation · 01/05/2011 23:43

Izzy - aaaah, just seen - you're right - Harry's the spitting image of Sarah - Diana's sister!

Yellowstone · 01/05/2011 23:58

FudgeGirl lots of people might care if William died without an heir.

Poor Harry. Charles has brought him up as a treasured son and Harry has no mum. Devastating if some git proves assumed paternity is wrong.

Hewitt's twin lived over our way and I used to ride her horses when Harry would have been a toddler. There was no inkling ever that there was any dark secret and no inkling that Hewitt was anything other than single. She might have known nothing I suppose or been very discreet, but I'd stake a bet that there was actually nothing. If Harry was done out of a dad that would be tragic. Harry is great and until there's a constitutional crisis, who does actually care?

People see resemblances because that's how the eyes & brain work together in humans - if you show us a tomato & an old phone box, we think 'red'.

He looks to me quite a bit like Hewitt AND quite a bit like Philip, tbh.

But then, for 40 years people have been telling my cousin & me we look like brother & sister, or even male/female versions of one another - amazing uncanny spooky resemblance etc.

My cousin was adopted by my aunt & uncle as a baby. He's not genetically any more related to me than anyone on this thread is...

Tolalola · 02/05/2011 00:26

"They were both 'done out 'of both parents, surely?"

I don't know about that BeerTricks, apparently Prince Charles is extremely close to both William and Harry and they have a brilliant relationship. Not to mention how close William and Harry are to each other.

I think to damage all of those relationships for some prurient story would be unimaginably cruel, no matter what the truth is.

polarbabe · 02/05/2011 00:28

Namechanged for this...

Amen edam. It must be so frustrating and bloody hurtful for Harry, his father and brother. These rumours have already been proved to be vicious lies.

  1. Dates are all wrong.
  1. Pretty certain Prince Charles had no doubts and I'm quite sure that if Harry needed reassurance then his father provided to him via DNA.
  1. Tabloids in the UK and abroad are not averse to doing highly unethical and sometimes illegal things to get a story...perhaps a shitty rag got a sample surreptitiously from Harry while he was at Eton. And maybe, just maybe all tests carried out proved Harry was Charles' son.
  1. I have met both Harry and Charles and there is a resemblence. Cheeks, mouth; Harry (unfortunately) has inherited his fathers hands and as he gets older he will get the sausagey fingers Charles has. Harry is also starting to go bald at the crown of his head.
  1. Harry is a spit of his cousin George (Sarah McCorquodale's son). Thus it would seem the red hair is a Spencer trait, indeed Harry does look not unlike 2nd Earl Spencer, George.

But it is all so much more interesting spouting nonsense without foundation because it sounds good and is titillating, never mind that these are real people with real feelings.
