to think that Camilla is a bit of a national treasure

Yes another wedding based thread.

I think she seems a good egg. And looked lovely today.

Plus there were a few moments where she looked very emotional in the abbey, was very touching.

She also does a lot of charity work for unfashionable illnesses like osteoporosis.

I really don't care about the Charles and Diana thing. If they had let him marry who he wanted, instead of engineering in some clueless teenager, none of it would have happened.

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 29/04/2011 20:31

True love conquers all though doesn't it? I think Charles was made to marry someone he didn't want to marry and now they get to be happy together. And it isn't as if Diana wasn't having affairs left right and centre too.

I like her and I think it's pretty obvious that William and Harry like her too, which is surely all that matters?

SybilBeddows · 29/04/2011 20:31

that was it, 'wicked' Grin

she seems like a laugh.

OK I get that it was Very Wrong to shag a married man, but I think you can have sinned and still be a national treasure. And she is not quite there yet but she could be, it will just take a bit more time.

ConnorTraceptive · 29/04/2011 20:31

Diana was no angel and certainly no queen of fecking hearts

wigglesrock · 29/04/2011 20:31

Agree with Alibaba... her stepsons seem genuinely fond of her, and she obviously spends a decent amount of time with her grandchildren, always a plus Grin

Dad2HandC · 29/04/2011 20:31

GitAwfMayLend - I read that as Anyone who mates with Jilly Cooper....

Camilla is great - knows her place - Charles should have married her in the 70's.

meditrina · 29/04/2011 20:32

Princes William and Harry both have an excellent relationship with her - I find it odd that anyone would be closer guardians of Diana's memory than they.

breathing · 29/04/2011 20:32

I really like Camilla

southeastastra · 29/04/2011 20:32

i wish i'd read it earlier, i might have understood it all sooner, it's hilarious

SpeedyGonzalez · 29/04/2011 20:32

Pardon? Grin

I agree with Val.

GitAwfMayLend · 29/04/2011 20:32

I don't think she was the wicked witch of the west re that marriage. Who knows what the hell went on.

Wills and Harry like her. If they had an axe to grind re their mother surely they would grind it.

Did you see her pick up her grandaughter bridesmaid on the balcony? I thought that was nice. I think she's good for Charles and if/when he becomes king, he'll be a better one for having her with him.

GitAwfMayLend · 29/04/2011 20:35

Re Jilly Cooper, Rupert Campbell-Black was evidently based on Whatsisface Parker Bowles, Camilla's ex husband.

Apparently he was a bit of a cad anyway.

But he attended Camilla's marriage to Charles, and she attended his wedding to his second wife, so no bad blood there.

How do I know this shit?

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe80nappies · 29/04/2011 20:35

Charles should have been allowed to marry her in the first place, and Diana knew Charles didn't love her when she married him. The whole thing was a disaster all round, and probably wasn't the fault of any of the 3 of them. Very sad, but it is right that they should have had their chance to be happy now.

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/04/2011 20:36

Oh I think she seems nice - and much better suited to Charles than Diana ever was.

Was I the only one thinking that Charles had been prepped to pick up the small bridesmaid 'it'll make you look human sir'

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 29/04/2011 20:36

And I think that she should be Queen when (if) Charles becomes King. Anything else would just be rude IMO.

JamieAgain · 29/04/2011 20:36

I quite like her. I agree with what laInfanta said

millie30 · 29/04/2011 20:37

Hocuspontas, yes that was nice. Charles also picked her up which I thought was sweet.

LadylissielouofShropshire · 29/04/2011 20:37

i like her, and agree that diana was no angel, she certainly put it about a bit. charles had an affair with the only woman he had ever loved. Diana knobbed anyone in trousers.

laInfanta · 29/04/2011 20:38

She will become queen, Ali. The wife of the king is automatically the queen, unless it's a morganatic marriage which theirs isn't. Hurrah for Queen Camilla

MrsHuwEdwards · 29/04/2011 20:38

I love Camilla. Completely agree with Alibaba

GitAwfMayLend · 29/04/2011 20:39

I agree that she will become Queen.

OP posts:
SybilBeddows · 29/04/2011 20:39

LaInfanta, what IS a morganatic marriage? I've never understood....

JingleMum · 29/04/2011 20:40

since watching the wedding today (love kate and wills!) i've become awfully interested in what went on with that weird little love triangle.

can anyone help me out here....
why wasn't charles allowed to marry camilla?
do you think he ever loved diana?
was he having an affair with camilla from early on in his marriage to diana which resulted in diana having affairs to "get back" at him?
