or possibly thick/naive to wonder why there are so many staffordshire bull terriers in animal shelters?

I know bugger all about dogs (really really want one but am not going to get one because we are out of the house too much) but am looking on animal shelter websites and getting all dopy and feel sorry for the poor bloody dogs.

Is it because they are too difficult to look after? Or more like they are badly treated.

It's bloody sad.

Thinking of sponsoring a dog because I can't have one.

Bugger, had I known that I'd have tried, QuietTiger. :o

Do you think a few photos of "Unharmed daughters" and "Labrador shares child's breakfast" will make me enough to enable me to buy a big house and a rescue of my own?

Nah... :( ..... it wouldn't even make enough to buy me a second hand shoe-box, would it.

DooinMeCleanin · 24/04/2011 14:14

Maybe you could muster interest in Buster's story Vall. He is a black staffy who does the school run every morning and afternoon with his owner. He is dd2's 'best' friend dog. He sits patiently while she hugs and pats him, barely batting an eyelid. He knows her that well now, that he sits as soon as he sees her approching.

Or Coke the stray staffy I brought home who immediately made herself at home on my rug in front of my fire, with that big staffy grin.

Or perhaps the little dothery staff down the road who wanders up and down the street giving her elderly owner a reason to talk to people and get up on a morning?

And I just know the papers would kill for story about the three huge GSDs who live a bit further down the street and never bother anyone.

And the two staffys my dd's friends family own must surely be newsworthy. They walk nicely on their lead and sometimes bark when you pass their house.

QuietTiger · 24/04/2011 14:20

Personally, Val, I think "SBT washes the cat and sleeps curled up next to said cat and 4 year old child on the sofa" is a good story.

Or how about, "Rescued SBT called Spud, is kennel club good citizen ambassador and member of the display team at Crufts"?

We could even try "pet SBT plays ball with 10 year old Jamie in the park!"

Princessparty Ever heard of the phrase "DEED,NOT BREED"?

Based on scaremongering, the RIDICULOUS Dangerous Dogs Act, and the fact that there are so many uneducated, moronic cretins (like yourself, Princessparty) ready to give a bad rap to innocent dogs, based on media hype, without bothering to find out facts, thousands of innocent dogs are being murdered on an annual basis by pounds and rescue charities because of the way they look. Purely because of the MYTH behind their so called crimes. If it was a human, they'd be innocent until proven guilty. They certainly wouldn't be given the death penalty based on looks alone.

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 14:22

Ahhh... barking! Now there's a news story if ever I heard one Dooin. We all know what barking turns to, don't we?

Yes... aggression.... barking is a sure sign that the dogs are about to break out of the owner's house in the night using pickaxes and beat seven colours of shit out of every passing baby and pensioner next morning.

It's true, I tell you. All the papers say so.

They'll give me a small fortune for a nice barking story, I can see the headline now....

You have to watch them barking evil fucking Staffies y'know. Proper dangerous, they are. Hmm

princessparty · 24/04/2011 14:23

I think the facr that you totally disregard, let alone show any sympathyfor these poor children speaks volumes about what sort of people you are

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 14:32

It does indeed, princessparty.

One word can sum up what we are.

Intelligent.

I'm a rescuer with many years experience of handling stray and unwanted dogs, including a huge number of SBT.

What's your experience of the breed?

My younger daughter is a hands-on volunteer for rescue too. Here's her favourite out of all their Bull Breeds and Bull Breed crosses

QuietTiger · 24/04/2011 14:35

Bwahahahahahah at Princessparty. You have no fucking clue what "sort of people we are".

What I do know, is that you are COMPLETELY failing to see our point that it is the rogue few, owned by morons, who end up giving the masses their bad name.

And yes, pretty much every case I have personally encountered (and that's more than a few) of dog/person agression is because the dog was owned by some cretinous arsehole who had enocouraged and trained the dog to be vicious.

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 14:35

Oh... and for the THIRD time princessparty... do you consider all Black people to be evil fuckers because a tiny minority of Black people killed PC Keith Blakelock?

I see that you are avoiding that question.

southmum · 24/04/2011 14:49

oh Hi princess, youre back from fuckoffsville I see

We're not up in arms because we are adult enough (that means grown up in big person speak Smile) to realise that its not the breed, its the feckless irresponsible owners that are to blame for dog attacks.

Yorkshire terrier attacks just aren't as scandalous to print as SBT stories because the papers play on the likes of you who soak it all up

Now dont you have something to do like go outside and make mud pies with the other kids?

MrsSnaplegs · 24/04/2011 14:51

Valhalla another poster here who admires everything you do and that I have learnt about rescue on here. Thank you! If I win the lottery I will set you up with your own rescue!!
We had a lovely day with friends yesterday and their mini schnauzer pup, usual BBQ in garden with friends one has a son frightened of big dogs so once we had all eaten we asked if he wanted to meet our ridgeback as she is as soft as melted butter. She came over and a young boy got to build his confidence with a big dog. He left completely unfazed by her and spent ages playing with her. People get scared by size and reputation but hopefully with people like Val and midori around we can change some of those views! Keep up the good work!

princessparty · 24/04/2011 14:52

Valhalla - For a start off black people are not a different species to white people (and you called yourself intelligent)

PersonalClown · 24/04/2011 15:02

We have common sense and intelligence PrincessParty.
We are well aware of what ANY dog can do, including our SBTs.
We train our dogs responsibly, treat them with kindness and respect that they still are animals so we don't trust them 100%.

My current headline is SBT hides behind owners legs, hiding from the hosepipe!!

midori1999 · 24/04/2011 15:07

Oh dear... Neither are staffies a different species to other dog breeds...

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 15:09

"Valhalla - For a start off black people are not a different species to white people (and you called yourself intelligent)"

princessparty, please point out to us all exactly where I said - or even intimated - that they are. Hmm

Oh... you can't, can you? Because I didn't. Please don't twist my words into inaccuracies to suit your own uneducated opinions.

Black people are one of a number of types of homo sapiens just as SBT are one of a number of type of canis lupus familiaris. I am aware of that. I was asking whether you believe all of a type of one group of living being to be fucking evil because of the actions of a tiny minority of the same type of living being.

I think you'll find that it's not my intelligence which is being called into question here.

And your experience with Bull Breeds is... ?

QuietTiger · 24/04/2011 15:12

Princessparty, darling, go and play with the other children while the adults have a proper conversation.

DooinMeCleanin · 24/04/2011 15:49

If Staffies are not dogs what are they? Confused

QuietTiger · 24/04/2011 15:54

If Staffies are not dogs what are they?

Did you not know?? Staffies are EEEEEEVIIIL Fuckers! Grin

emptyshell · 24/04/2011 16:19

My dog's definitely an evil f**ker....

....when he farts.

PP... please... fuck off. I like my dog - I don't like you... bog off and do one.

And no I don't particularly care about oversensationalised one-off incidents blown out of all proportion in the press (and the Daily Mail really really really needs to find a different staffy photo because they've used that one at least 6 times in the past year) - because they're one-off incidents, often because the dog's finally got sick of having its ears pulled or whatever, and generally ones that could have been avoided if the dog was supervised around children.

My cat, incidentally has caused me more scratches and injuries (don't recommend tripping over black cats in the dark kiddies) than the dog ever did. Think the Daily Wail would be interested in an evil kitty story?!

NinkyNonker · 24/04/2011 16:46

My half evil fucker was so badly treated by his former owners he cowered when you walked past her and wouldn't come into the room unless beckoned. However she is now asleep on my foot after a long walk with us, the baby and our other dog. Evil thing she is.

PersonalClown · 24/04/2011 17:15

Yep mine's evil!
I'm covered in mud from where he sat on me after 'helping' dig over the garden.

chickchickchicken · 24/04/2011 18:25

getorf - no probs, not rude. hector is just gorgeous. i love his eyes, full of soul

beaker - glad you checked out papas website. it was only started up about a year or so ago so lots of people havent heard of it. julie, who set it up is lovely. we know some very happy children who are unable to have a dog of their own but love taking their dog out and even draw pictures for the dog to keep near his bed. i think papas is great as it helps people of all ages who are no longer able to take their dogs for long walks. dog is happy getting more walks, volunteers get all the best bits of walking a dog, dog owner is happy knowing dog is getting walked. most importantly dog doesnt up in rescue or pts

chickchickchicken · 24/04/2011 18:27

*doesnt end up in rescue or pts

NinkyNonker · 24/04/2011 18:28

Or maybe I'm evil for having this soppy great evil f@#!er in the house with an 8 month old baby.
