or possibly thick/naive to wonder why there are so many staffordshire bull terriers in animal shelters?

I know bugger all about dogs (really really want one but am not going to get one because we are out of the house too much) but am looking on animal shelter websites and getting all dopy and feel sorry for the poor bloody dogs.

Is it because they are too difficult to look after? Or more like they are badly treated.

It's bloody sad.

Thinking of sponsoring a dog because I can't have one.

Amy read - for sale, interbred Staffie owned by numptie out to make a fast buck. Don't bring him back to me if you can't keep him, I'll have cashed the cheque, tough shit.

Wanted - Staffie for dogfighting or bait. Possibly for 3rd floor flat with no garden that no decent rescue would dream of touching with a bargepole.

Princessparty, when you have any idea what you're talking about please do feel free to discuss Staffies with me. Until then, as someone who is a former owner and fosterer of the breed and who regularly interacts with and handles large numbers of the SBT and SBT crosses, together with... shock horror... her children, I am unable to take your astounding generalisation of "evil fuckers" as credible evidence that you have a clue about the breed.

I suppose that being aware of PC Blakelock's murder you consider all Black people to be evil fuckers too? Hmm

GitAwfMayLend · 24/04/2011 10:04

chickchickchicken I am so sorry for not acknowledging your post of 23.25 - I have just skimmed through this thread again and I completely missed that post last night Blush. You must have thought Iwas a ride bugger.

Am glad it's not just me who has fallen in love with Hector. Hasn't he got the kindest eyes.

Thanks also for those links re the local rescue centres - that is really useful stuff, thanks again.

I am detyermined to do something - spent hours looking at rescue stuff on my blackberry last night in bed, want to contribute something, even if it is just money and a bit of cleaning.

princessparty - come back when you have grown up love

in the meantime fuck the fuck off and stop talking inflammatory bollocks

GitAwfMayLend · 24/04/2011 10:51

southmum · 24/04/2011 11:10

ahh ok, its just I have a VERY soft spot for sbts (mine is upstairs on our bed having a lie in, the lazy cow)

GitAwfMayLend · 24/04/2011 11:17

I have fallen in love with that dear looking soul I linked to upthread.

OP posts:
southmum · 24/04/2011 11:45

I resisted the urge to look but have...

those eyes are the kindest i have ever seen what a lovely soul he looks. I wish I could take in another sbt but cant at the moment (DP want to wait a bit as am pg again) but as soon as the times right I'll be getting a rescue one...

Wonder if I can hide Hector in the spare room?

beaker25 · 24/04/2011 12:30

Chickchick I had never heard of papas but just googled them. What a great idea! I have just signed up as a volunteer so thanks!

midori1999 · 24/04/2011 12:34

Hmm. My 'evil bastard' staffie cross had to have an emergency vet appointment yesterday. He had collapsed on the way back from a walk, had to be carried home (he is not the sort of dog who would usually like to be carried!) and must have felt very ill, anxious and vulnerable, as well as being in considerable pain. Yet, when the vet was examining him and palpating to try and rule out blockages and it very clearly was hurting him, his worst was a short and low growl and once reassurred by me and the vet he went back to silently accepting it.

That is in fact, the first time I can even remember him growling. There's just not nasty bone in his gorgeous body.,

PersonalClown · 24/04/2011 12:45

Back again.

Amy I think most describe SBT's ad chunky because twats that don't know the breed want the pumped up steroid looking Staffs.

My vet told me that SBTs should be quite sleek and slimlined with the muscle being defined when working.

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 12:50

midori, I'm sorry to learn that your boy's unwell. How's he doing now? Better now by far I hope?

midori1999 · 24/04/2011 13:04

He's much beter today thanks Val, seemingly just a very bad bout of Gastro. He'd perked up slightly by the time we got him back from the vets, but it so easily could have gone one way or the other we just rushed him off there the second we got home and rang them.

He spent yesterday evening on the sofa for cuddles (dogs not normally on the sofas as they are leather and we try and avoid scratches) and looking as pleased as punch to be up there, the little monkey. He's not impressed at being starved for 24 hours though...

southmum · 24/04/2011 13:08

ha Midori - your comment about leather sofas just made me remember - when we bought a new sofa when I was pg the first time we initially wanted another leather one so it would be easier to clean up baby sick etc

however as DP pointed out, our evil bastard dog doesnt like the noise the leather makes so we ended up getting one of those chenille [sp?] ones. and evil bastard dog had to have its own section to sit on Hmm

DooinMeCleanin · 24/04/2011 13:11

Devil Dog has his own section on our leather sofa. My section. We have many fights over that seat. Most nights he wins and I end up pinned to the sofa by him. If he can't sit on his bit of the sofa, he will sit on me sitting on his bit of the sofa Grin

princessparty · 24/04/2011 13:15

So I've been called an 'unstable bitch' told to 'fuck the fuck off and stop talking inflammatory bollocks' becauase in response to a question as to why people might ditch Staffies poste a link of a little child who had been severely mauled from that days papers! And theer is no shortage of other stories of Staffie attacks
You lot seem to care more about your dogs than this poor little girl , and other kids who have been severly injured.i find this as very offensive on a parenting forum and suggest you continue your discussionelsewhere
another evil fu**er
and another
and another
and another
and another
I could go on all day.I hope none of the victims families are reading this odious thread

DooinMeCleanin · 24/04/2011 13:28

Bella The line where it says Bella's heart was completely void of blood she fought that hard to save her owners is particularly heart breaking imo.

Roxy Lucky boy that she was there.

Fizz

We can all do links PP.

I haven't bothered reading any of yours, but I would bet my last pound that every single one involves a child being left unsupervised or poorly supervised with an unfamiliar dog.

I could also go on all day, the thing is "Staffy sleeps on sofa next to toddler" makes not a good headline. Nor does "Staffy plays ball in the park with three young children"

PersonalClown · 24/04/2011 13:29

How about this for a headline...
Shock horror..1000s of people survive the night in the same room as an SBT.

PersonalClown · 24/04/2011 13:32

How about this one

Staffy saves boy's life

PersonalClown · 24/04/2011 13:36

Here's another
Staffy protects his owner from burglers

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 13:37

I suggest that you refrain from telling us where and what we may post on this public forum, princessparty.

I further suggest that I can counter your half a dozen examples with literally THOUSANDS of examples of "non-news" about SBT and similar dogs in family homes. The reason that these stories make the press is that they are rare, which is what makes an item newsworthy.

I tried to sell my story of "Two German Shepherds asleep on child's bed as child does homework" to the Mail this morning but they weren't interested.

I repeat - o you consider all Blacks to be fucking evil because a tiny minority killed PC Blakelock so appallingly and wickedly?

When you can match my experience with Staffies and other breeds, (both my own and strays in rescue), or when you can match my children's experience dearie, and only when, then I might believe that you have something accurate and educated to add to the discussion.

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 13:42

Oh yes...

Staffie lives peacably with Downs Syndrome child

midori1999 · 24/04/2011 13:51

I should add that one of my DS's has Downs Syndrome. I would have another staff or x in a shot when we can take another rescue dog.

QuietTiger · 24/04/2011 13:53

I tried to sell my story of "Two German Shepherds asleep on child's bed as child does homework" to the Mail this morning but they weren't interested.

Val, you were and are being totally unreasonable.

You should have gone to The Sun or The Express. Grin

Vallhala · 24/04/2011 13:55

Glad to hear the little chaps improved, Midori... good grief that must have given you a fright.

I too will adopt a SBT or SBT cross when I can take on another dog. By that time I may well be a grandmother.
