Bugaboo Donkey

I admit it, I looked at bugaboo when I was expecting ds1 as they were the 'in thing" and up until I saw them I thought they must be the best cause of all the coverage etc. Then I saw them in the flesh and thought they were a heap of junk and cheap looking in all honesty. Now I see the article above and I just think people can't be buying these for any other reason than the name and celebrity endorsement surely?

It's not so much the cost, the pram I eventually chose was more expensive than a Bugaboo, more value for money and the fact people are only buying them for the reasons stated above.

hahahahaha the buggy debate is almost as bad as trying to defend your religion!!!!!

each to their own - i adore my cameleon and am over the moon i can but another bubba in it - i like the donkey but what a stupid name, could have gone for lizard, butterfly, dragon..... but donkey????

i personally cant stand cheap crappy buggys such as graco and argos own brand and any buggy without a proper carrycot - babys backs should be lay down and not sat in car seats/upright buggies at such a young age for such long periods of time!!!

but that is my own personal opinion and means nada to no one lol

MsPitstop · 15/04/2011 15:19

I inherited a Bugaboo and I hated it. Rubbish brakes, stops dead at the slightest bump in the pavement (perhaps I am just a bad driver) and is a total fankle to fold up and the basket in the bottom is very hard to access.

It was purchased by my husband mainly because he was bored rigid in John Lewis until the saleslady said the magic words 'independent suspension'.

I bought a Jane on ebay and even irritated husband had to agree that it was a far far better piece of kit.

CJ2010 · 15/04/2011 15:45

I love my Bee.

clitorisorclitoraint · 15/04/2011 16:04

A grand on a pushchair is madness!

Woodlands · 15/04/2011 16:48

i saw a donkey today! it was defintiely it, i saw the label. it was cream and a bit hideous!

Kaekae · 15/04/2011 17:07

I wouldn't spend that much, although I did buy a bugaboo when my DS was born in 2007. I liked it in as much as it was a light buggy but other than that, I wouldn't buy it again. As soon as I could get him in a stroller I did. I wished I had bought the Phil and Teds.

its quite simple if you dont like bugaboo dont buy one

plenty cheap as chips buggies to do the competitively cheapskate stroll too.if really going for this eschew any spending thing, common sense tight wad mammy - there are some milk stained and smell of fag ones on ebay v cheap.

Mishy1234 · 15/04/2011 17:39

YABU. I love my Bugaboo and think it was well worth the money. 2 children and over 3 years use later and it's still going strong and looks good.

The 'Donkey' looks quite good imo and I would definitely be looking at it as an alternative to P&T if I was still at stage. The main reason I don't like most doubles is that you can't have the baby facing you and it looks like the 'Donkey' can do that.

gordyslovesheep · 15/04/2011 17:43

I have a Bee - the sole reason for buying it was because of all the things I tested it was the ONLY one that fit in my boot ...

I was shocked at the price and a bit rolly eyes at the thing but 2 and a bit years on I love it - it looks as good as new, it goes anywhere with ease, it's piss easy to steer even one handed, I can look at DD3 all the time (poor kid) and it weighs nothing

if you don't like Bugaboos that's fine -good for you - but also a bit judgy don't ya think?

DuplicitousBitch · 15/04/2011 17:47

roar @ 'One mother even told us she?d put off having a second child until after the launch.?
how shallow is that

sungirltan · 15/04/2011 19:48

glendathegoodwitch - i have to agree about the crappy buggies. its not snobbery, i just dont approve of nbs/babies that cant yet sit up either scrunched up in those carseat things with the daft looking double hood or even worse being propped up in a regualr pushchair. i wince every time i see it - the pushchairs especially. of course i understand that most families have a budget for a pram - mostly i think its irresponsible on the part of the maufacturer - grace et al.

MainlyMaynie · 15/04/2011 20:33

I am a bit bemused that you care what pushchair other people have. And what does it matter how much it costs? People have different budgets.

NinkyNonker · 15/04/2011 22:07

I bought an old Frog (old version of chameleon) on eBay for £150, it is brilliant. It just...works. I would absolutely not pay full whack for something like this, can't see the point.

To be honest, I use a sling more anyway...

drivingmissdaisy · 15/04/2011 22:11

YUBA it's excellent value for money, so light and easy to push around - no need to buy a second pushchair( ie. MacLaren) if you have a bugaboo.

sprinkles77 · 15/04/2011 22:15

Jealous? If you have the money and want to spend it, have the RangeRoverVogue of buggies. Manufacturers will charge what they can get away with. Some people drive Fords and others drive BMWs. Get over it! YABU and come across as envious.

WannabeNigella · 15/04/2011 22:44

I am not envious as have something far superior, in my opinion. Which many of you may well not like.

I don't "care" what pushchair anyone has, if you read the op again you will see I was stating my opinion on Bugaboo, not that I cared if you had one or not.

The fact so many people love theirs has made me think maybe I shouldn't have just judged them on the material and what I believed to be flimsiness, but I wouldn't change what I have for anything.

Jealous? Of a pushchair? A bugaboo? Don't think so.

I did try the Bugaboo in the shop, which is all anyone can do really. I'm happy with my choice but am happy that Bugaboo users are also happy with theirs.

I have an old frog. It was my SILs and is on its 5th dc now and is imo very good. I'm not sure what 'celebrity endorsement' they have or why that would be a reason to buy one, but I don't read shite magazines so I'm not quite in the swim as far as that sort of thing goes.

PIL kindly bought us a bee. Love the thing. Is light enough for me to carry ds in it up and down tube steps. I find it really easy to steer but can also clip a load of shopping on the handle and it doesn't tip. Although my ds is huge so maybe it's just him. Plus it folds up neatly and quickly into our diddy car's boot.

But each to their own :)

NinkyNonker · 16/04/2011 06:53

I didn't realise they were this 'popular' till recently, I just thought they were pricey. I can understand why having got one now though.
