Bugaboo Donkey

I admit it, I looked at bugaboo when I was expecting ds1 as they were the 'in thing" and up until I saw them I thought they must be the best cause of all the coverage etc. Then I saw them in the flesh and thought they were a heap of junk and cheap looking in all honesty. Now I see the article above and I just think people can't be buying these for any other reason than the name and celebrity endorsement surely?

It's not so much the cost, the pram I eventually chose was more expensive than a Bugaboo, more value for money and the fact people are only buying them for the reasons stated above.

OP posts:

TheBlindAssassin - a girl after my own heart! I loved mine so much that I've started thinking whether there's a way of lashing two together!

YouaretooniceNOT · 14/04/2011 00:25

If you want it and can afford it..why not?

Insert1x50p · 14/04/2011 00:41

I agree with the OP that the Bugaboo does look a bit flimsy/cheap when you first look at it- I bought mine on e-bay and when I got it, I was a bit disappointed. However, I've never had any problems with it functionally and DS slept in the carrycot for the first 6 weeks instead of a moses basket. Although the Cameleon is big, it is very easy to turn.

Some of the accessories are a bit crappola though- yes, tyre pump, I'm talking about you!

scottishmummy · 14/04/2011 00:44

but op has never had bugaboo,so is speculating what they are like to use

Anythingwithagiraffeonit · 14/04/2011 00:46

I also have a jogging pram and a Quinny zapp Xtra and the bugaboo feels so solid and is a dream to use in comparison...

YouaretooniceNOT · 14/04/2011 00:54

Next time i will have a cheapo pushcahir. I had a Mamas and Papas, Strreetwise in viva navy in 1998. About £300 posibly more with all the accessories. Never again. Can't afford that anyway these days.

scottishmummy · 14/04/2011 01:01

and the baby & toddler duo is v useful too

Northernlurker · 14/04/2011 08:19

I had a double pushchair just for dd2's first year. That was long enough to nearly knacker my back. If you are pushing it every day for longish distances then yes you do need something really good!

Whatevs · 14/04/2011 08:23

I find it amazing that people spend this much on a buggy. Craziness.

Tinkerisdead · 14/04/2011 08:28

I absolutely love my bugaboo cam. I would buy the donkey(hate the name). In fact I'm a bit gutted that my dd will have outgrown a buggy by the time I have a second. My bugaboo whilst heavy is so versatile and turns so easily it's a dream.

I don't get the 'buggy hate' unless you have owned one... but even then, it may not have suited you, it does not make it 'a hunk of junk' Hmm

Personally I love P&T, but I really don't care what anyone else buys or uses - why would I - it's a buggy!

nonickname3 · 14/04/2011 11:37

It's usually the Bugaboo Mums that don't get out of the way on the pavement as in the other thread!!

Rev084 · 14/04/2011 11:40

I bought the Bugaboo Gecko nearly three yrs ago, I think it was superceded by the Chameleon as it was the last in stock at mothercare. I bought it due to its narrow, compact size and is fairly light weight. It had a 2yr guarantee too which I've never had to use. Never had any problems, really sturdy and will hopefully last much longer for baby no.2 due very soon. Cost just short of £500, I think the chameleon cost much more though theres little difference between the two. I see now that Bugaboo have a 'yummy mummy' status to them but I'm far from one of those, just like the pram for its durability and comfort (not only for the baby/tot but easy for me to push). I think I've really had value for money as some people go through a couple of prams.

Firawla · 14/04/2011 11:46

yabu this donkey one looks really good! i would get it if not for the price, as can't afford over 1k on a buggy but i really like the way they have it for the new baby and toddler. i wonder how wide it is compared to p&t

ChocolateEggyrolls · 14/04/2011 12:31

One of the reasons that dh and I liked the bugaboo was that he is super tall and the extending handle was immensely useful - at the time very few buggy's had the ability to have a carry cot/front and back facing seat/ carseat attachment and the extending handle! I find it most useful now as if I wear higher heels as I sometimes do it can grow with me.......... if both partners are of an equal size then I guess that doesn't matter but we aren't so it was very important to us. In addition I know my chameleon with all the bits came in at under £500 which I know is a lot but got it from some dodgy internet company and when looking at others for just a little less I didn't think they were comparible really. Obviously the most important think for dh was the cupholder attachment Hmm which wasn't well used! (Spilt coffee on a very regular basis!)

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 14/04/2011 12:36

i've got a Bee for dc2
200 quid off ebay - i bloody love it
wish i'd bought one with dc1 TBH, but i had wrongly dismissed them as wnaky

oranges123 · 14/04/2011 14:00

Another happy Chameleon owner here. Love it for its manoeuvrability and smooth ride mainly but lots of other reasons too. We were going for something else entirely but as soon as we pushed the Bugaboo round the shop one-fingered we were hooked. DH loves it too.

Wish I hadn't bought the stupid parasol thing but other than that I think it's well worth the money and had no idea until I bought it that it was celebrity-endorsed and wouldn't have given a stuff if I did. If I needed another pushchair I would consider the Donkey just because of my good experience with the Chameleon.

So YABU - not everyone is shallow enough to make their buying decisions on the basis of what they see in the Mail or Grazia or wherever.

silverangel · 14/04/2011 14:14

I am planning on getting the donkey because I am expecting twins and it is imo by far the best twin buggy on the market (and not the most expensive). Also, these are my first and I had no concept of buggy brands until the last couple of weeks.

Now, after reading the two page article in the Standard last night, I realise I am going to be looked at by all the other mothers who don't have a bugaboo because of the marketing conotations!!!

Oh well, at lease the twins will be comfy:)

scottishmummy · 14/04/2011 14:35

no one really cares about what buggy you chose, and if any stares is probably at your cute wee twins

this is just media froth and oh my gosh

bugaboo endures because it is a good brand, hype can catapult brand awareness but not maintain it
